I am Deilone Vaijantha Angammana. I was born in Anuradhapura. I was educated at three schools in the Central Province. I did my A/L in arts subject. At present, I am working as an external lecturer and a digital artist, also as a sticker designer in Viber Media Institu- tion. I currently support design work in over about 12 countries in Asia, Eastern Europe, and globally. My art can be introduced in many ways. That is cartoons, creations, digital light printing character creations, and history creations. Most designs were created for commer- cial purposes, depending on the need of the client. But with the latest technology, art has been updated and with the advent of the traditional art gallery into the digital space, we too have been able to express our ideas in a creative sense. NFT is a good example of that. I started designing when I was studying for my A/Ls. At that time there was no sep- arate tool for that arts. First, I created designs with software like Microsoft Paint and then with Photoshop. After selecting me to the university of Aesthetics, I learned about the art of multimedia and progressively pursued self-study over the internet. Today many people are focused on digital designing. It is something to be done very carefully. First, I started about principles of Arts and then created digital designs. It is very difficult to move forward as a professional designer without a basic education. Digital is just one medium, and as time passes more media will come, but from all those mediums we will have to work with the artistic knowledge created by previous designers. It cannot be said in such a way. I study the creations of many designers; some are famous and some are new. Today there are unimaginably talented designers. I never think twice to learn what needs to be learned from a good design. Regarding myself, I have no special style. Most of the time a lot of new styles emerge from the designs I make. I often study models in other designs. We can automatically develop styles by observing techniques that are used without imitating other designs. Accordingly, my designs may vary up to some extent. It was my passion that motivated me to recreate digital designing. I am always curious about life, so any subject that satisfies that curiosity is my favorite. The style can vary depending on the tool. In digital designing its style varies according to the software we use. The software I use most often is photoshop clip studio and Illustrator. Art is something that man has brought forward since the stone age. The art of the past has been updated and has come a long way to the present. Accordingly, the products of this era have been updated as digital art. Gradually modern man has brought traditional art to the digital space. NFT art is a good example of that. Digital designs are being auctioned off at unimaginable prices. In that sense, art has achieved a very high level of professionalism as well as artistic quality. Therefore, we need to get into the digital space through proper study. Thank you for contacting me ………… Art E-Magazine | 12

3d printing Even the best artists struggle to show us what real-world objects look like in all their three-dimensional (3D) glory. Most of the time that doesn’t matter looking at a photo Tharindu Tishan 11Bsketch gives us a good-enough idea. But if you’re in the business of developing new products and you need to show them off to clients or customers, nothing beats having a prototype: a model you can touch, hold and feel. 3D printers, which work a bit like inkjets and build up 3D models layer by layer at up to 10 times the speed and a fifth the cost. How exactly do they work? It comes…. right now...! What is 3D printing? - 3D Printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making 3 dimension- al solid objects from a digital file. This 3D printing involves layering materials like thermoplas- tics, stainless steel, polylactic acid or biomaterials to create objects that range in shape, size & colour. W h o i s b e h i n d t h i s ? -Charles Hull (Chuck Hull in 1987) is the inventor of Stereolithography, the 1st commercial rapid prototyping technology, commonly known as 3D printing . Will it cost more time? –The printing time of any creation depends on number of factors such as size, material & complexity. For example, it can be taken a few minutes to several days. How it works? – When we are talking about it, the function of 3D printing can be classified into main 3 steps, 13 | Art E-Magazine

• 1st step- Modeling - In this step, manufacturing companies typically design object models using a special type of computer software known as CAD (Computerized Aided Design). Then check the errors in the files and delete them. Once this is completed, the object model is saved as an STL (SStereolithographyor) an AMF (Additive Manu-facturing File) format. • 2nd step - Printing - The user uploads the sketch or program to the 3D printer. Then the 3D printing pro-cess turns a whole object into thousands of tiny little slices, then makes it from the bottom-up, slice by slice. That tiny layer can be very complex, thus means, 3D printers can create moving parts like wheels, hinges also. • 3rd step - In this step, it involves the final touch on the printed object to create it more smoothly. What are the 3 main broad types of 3D printing? • Sintering - The material is heated (but not melting) to produce high-resolution items. Metal powder is used for direct metal laser sintering. While thermoplastic powders are used for selective laser sintering. • Melting- In this, they use lasers, electric arcs or electron beams to print objects by melting the material together at high temperatures. • Stereolithography- This technology uses the correct light source to interact with the material selectively to cure and solidify a cross selection of the object in thin layers. L.G.Nevin Nethsuka 9P digital PHOTOGRAPHY Digital photography is one of the most popular techniques used now. But in the late 20th century many small developments were leading to create digital photography. The history of digital photography began in 1950. In 1951, the first digital signals were saved to magnetic tape via the first video tape recorder After six years, in 1957, the first digital image was produced through a computer by Mr. Russell Krisch. The image was of his son. The first semiconductor or image was the CCD, and it was invented by physicist Willards Boyle and George E. Smith at Bell Labs in 1969. While researching the MOS process, they realized that an electric charge was the analogy of the magnetic bubble and that it could be stored on a tiny MOS capacitor As it was fairly straightforward to fabricate a series of MOS capacitors in a row. They connected a suitable voltage to them so that the charge could be stepped along one to the next The first digital video cameras for television broadcasting and their invention was recognized by a Nobel Prize in physics in 2009. The first published colour digital photography was produced in 1972 by Michael Francis Tompsett.. 17 Art E-Magazine

2ND interview 19 Art E-Magazine

Member of RCAC -: Sir, can you give us a brief introduction about yourself? Artist Sudath Abeysekara -: My name is Sudath Abeysekara. I am a visu- al artist. In 1996 I left university. After that I worked in Sri Lanka and overseas about fine art. I did about 15 solo exhibitions in overseas in around 12 countries. Visual arts means joining illustration art and computer art. Performance are also regarding that. I trained three months in England. After that I did many exhibitions in Sri Lanka. They were media BBQ, media quad and many more about media. I did 22 in 3 crows exhibition. I did another exhibition about how a video and illustration art joining as media quad and I did exhibition about joining illustration art and performance art. Before I held exhibitions, I got experience from overseas. First I worked as a visual artist. I worked as a creative director at Finics. I started my first own company as art and certified. Our generation transferred the old art to digital art. I am the director of artway and chair- man of Chithra Lanka. I was the chairman in National craft council for 1 and half years. Member of RCAC -: Sir, Can you explain about digital art work? Artist Sudath Abeysekara -: We are using a pen and pad to do digital arts. First we should sketch and draw a story board for the advertising. Graphic designing (video art) is drawing from recording and lightning. From these things we can think nicely and creatively. Video art is very developed. It is not like drawing or canvas it is a concept. Video art means drawing and capturing. All these things are visual arts. Member of RCAC -: Sir, how did you enrolled to digital arts? Artist Sudath Abeysekara -: We can apply art to fashion designing, graph- ic designing, architect, cities and vehicle designing. We can’t make drawing as our occupation in Sri Lanka. We can tell our thoughts through the art. I did 3D street art at Diyatha Uyana first time in Sri Lanka. We can think very much in advertising environment. We can sell drawings online. Art E-Magazine | 20

Member of RCAC -: Sir, how does previous art techniques helped you to in digital art? Artist Sudath Abeysekara -: We have to dedicate for the thigs what we want to achieve. There are changes in the technology but there no changes in pattern. Pencil in the pad is similar to the real pencil. We should use the tools and join to it. Member of RCAC -: Sir, what are the other subjects you like? Artist Sudath Abeysekara -: I like music, dancing, drama, drawing, writing film scripts and acting. When I was the chairman in National craft council I designed and a new logo and a new website called Lukshilpa website. If someone needs to motivate as an illustrator he should know how to draw fully and correct- ly using a pen. Only the person who learn a to z in drawing can be another designer. Before coming to digital art and video art he must know the basics of drawing. Member of RCAC -: Sir, what do you think about art is digitalizing and some people are copying artist’s creations? Artist Sudath Abeysekara -: Some people think that “I don’t have it so I can’t do that”. Actually they are trying to not working. They don’t do their work at correct time and they are passing the work. There is a style in art but there are no originali- ties. We can proves our reciprocity and develop by finding what we are actually doing. Some people said “there will be no artist in this world” when cameras are came to the market. But it was wrong. Always artists think what can I do next? So artist are very strong. Change means finding something that we can’t find from anywhere. Art is not changing. But the tools are changing. The tool that we are using for the digital art is technology. 21 Art E-Magazine

Member of RCAC -: Sir, what is your prediction about digital arts? What is the side that sir think digital arts should go? Artist Sudath Abeysekara -: We are already thinking about the broadcast. If we are deciding a film we should make a one regarding to the future not to the his- tory. There are no use of separating man and the culture. If cultural man goes to a developing stage in his life if we can make them correctly and flowing, we can use this all technology and tools for good and success of the people. This is my story. Member of RCAC -: Thank you very much sir. The interview is over. Art E-Magazine | 22

In 1970 some artists began to look into the effects of the connectivity with given equipment and developing computers. In 1974 Vedro Art pioneer Nam June Palk talked about television and its ability to bring people around the world together through shared experience. Later on, this idea of universal communic ability was led to the introduction of mobile phones and internet colour graphics was offered for the first time on a screen of an Apple II computer in 1970. Further, in 1979, the modem allowed digital signals to be transmitted through telephone lines making a path to transfer data easily. “Inspiration does exist.. but it must find you working. With the progress of all these contents, computer animation began to develop in the 1980s, which was based around bright colours and square pixels. Thisulaka Hesara 12 MSE GPEHTTOINGTSOTASRHTEOD WPITH Graphic Design Adobe Photoshop is a software application for image editing and photo retouching for use on Windows or MacOS computers. Photoshop offers users the ability to create, enhance, or otherwise edit images, artwork, and illustrations. Changing backgrounds, simulating a real-life painting, or creating an alternative view of the universe are all possible with Adobe Photoshop. It is the most widely used software tool for photo editing, image manipulation, and retouching for numerous image and video file formats. The tools within Photoshop make it possible to edit both individual images as well as large batches of photos. There are several versions of Photoshop, including Photoshop CC, Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Lightroom and Photoshop Express, a version of Photoshop for iOS with reduced features. Adobe Photoshop is available on its own as a subscription that includes Photoshop Lightroom, and as part of the larger Creative Cloud subscription. Now, let me briefly explain the commonly used file formats in photoshop. PSD (Photoshop Document) is the main file format for Photoshop. It’s the best for using as your working file. It supports RGB, CMYK, LAB and Duotone color spaces. This is great for archiving and working form as it supports all of Photoshop’s features. A PSD saves all the layers, masks, channels, paths etc. If you have Maximize Compatibility turned on when you save, it will also save a flattened version in the file. This makes it possible to open in a previous version of Photoshop or embed in other non Adobe programs. A PSB (Photoshop big) is the same as a PSD, but supports larger files. A PSD has a file limit of 30,000 pixels or 2 Gb. If you need a larger file, save it as a PSB (Photoshop Big) which supports 300,000 pixels or 4 Exabytes.. JPG- (Joint photographic experts group) is the most common format for saving photos when you need a small- er file size. When you need to email a photo, upload it to a website of social network, share on mobile etc. Most photos you see online are jpg. 31 | Art E-Magazine

tutorial Because they are compressed, they suffer from Generational loss. This means if you keep saving a jpg file over and over, it will deteriorate in quality. It’s a delivery format. So I suggest working from your PSD and saving a new jpg each time you make a change. A GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) file is also used online. It compresses by reducing the number of colors in an image to 256. It creates a CLUT (Color Look up table) of 256 colors and remaps all the colors in the image to this color index. It shifts colors to the closest match, Because of this, you will see posterization of photos. However, line art and solid colors do very well in gif. However, the main use for gif is small animation files. You have seen animated gifs, be it online, or in emails. Gifs also support basic transparency whereas jpg’s do not. PNG 24 (Portable Network Graphics) is a high quality lossless format and supports 256 level of transparency. This would be a good alternative to jpg, except the files are much larger. It supports lossless compression to there is no loss of quality. This format is used online, but more common for software and apps. The high quality transparency, also makes it a great format for saving overlays, such as lower thirds, bugs, logos etc and used in video, multi media and print. Art E-Magazine | 32

Let’s look at how Photoshop’s toolbar is organized. While it may seem like the tools are listed randomly, there’s actually a logical order to it, with related tools grouped together. At the top, we have • Photoshop’s Move and Selection tools. • And directly below them are the Crop and Slice tools. • Below that are the Measurement tools, followed by Photoshop’s many Retouching and Painting tools. • Next are the Drawing and Type tools. • And finally, we have the Navigation tools at the bottom: Art E-Magazine | 34

An adjustment layer applies color and tonal adjustments to your image without permanently changing pixel values. For example, rather than making a Levels or Curves adjustment directly to your image, you can create a Levels or Curves adjustment layer. The color and tonal adjustments are stored in the adjustment layer and apply to all the layers below it; you can correct multiple layers by making a single adjustment, rather than adjusting each layer separately. You can discard your changes and restore the original image at any time. Fill layers let you fill a layer with a solid color, a gradient, or a pattern. Unlike adjustment layers, fill layers do not affect the layers underneath them. Adjustment layers provide the following advantages: • Nondestructive edits. You can try different settings and re-edit the adjustment layer at any time. You can also reduce the effect of the adjustment by lowering the opacity of the layer. • Selective editing. Paint on the adjustment layer’s image mask to apply an adjustment to part of an image. Later you can control which parts of the image are adjusted by re-editing the layer mask. You can vary the adjustment by painting on the mask with different tones of gray. • Ability to apply adjustments to multiple images. Copy and paste adjustment layers between images to apply the same color and tonal adjustments. How to add text to a photo, and then style and position it in Adobe Photoshop. Go to File > Open. Use this technique to create postcards, website headers, invitations, and more. Experiment with different photography, type styles, and color combinations to create unique compositions. In Photoshop, saving works a bit differently from most other applications. Instead of working with one main file type like, .docx in Microsoft Word Photoshop offers a variety of ways to save your images. Let’s explore the method of saving a photoshop file. • With the image open in Photoshop, select File > Save As • A dialog box will appear. Type the desired file name, then choose a location for the file. You’ll want to use a new file name to avoid accidentally overwriting the original file. • Click the Format menu, then choose the desired file format. In our example, we’ll save our image as a JPEG file. If you’re saving as a PSD file, make sure the Layers option is checked. However, most other formats won’t allow you to select this option. • Click Save • Some file formats, such as JPEG and TIFF, will give you additional options when saving. Select the desired quality level, then click OK to save the image • If you’ve already saved your project as a PSD file, you can select File >Save or press Ctrl+S (or Command+S on a Mac) to save your progress at any time. However, if you’re working with another format like JPEG, we recommend using Save As to avoid overwriting your original file.. Art E-Magazine | 36
