Ideologies Monthly By Blain Murray

Collectivism Collectivism is an ideology that focuses on what an individual can do for a group. It builds on the ideas of cooperation and public property.

Communism Communism is all about creating a classless society where everyone is equal; however, the citizens do not have a voice in the government. It has a centrally planned economy, and only the communist party is permitted. Through communism, Russia went through a period of intense industrialization, led by the leader at the time, Joseph Stalin. In today’s world, China is one of the countries that practices communism.

Socialism Utopian Socialism is an ideology that revolves around having a perfect society that provides equality. This theory evolved by spreading to the United States, where people attempted to build communities based on these values. Karl Marx had an idea on utopian socialism, where the working class would overthrow the middle class, and equality would settle into place. Democratic socialism is about peacefully transitioning from capitalism to socialism, and exists in countries like Canada, Sweden, France, Germany, etc. It offers people freedom while giving collectivist benefits.

Liberalism Liberalism is an ideology that is focused around the mixture of collectivism and individualism. It has many versions, the most common being modern liberalism. Modern liberalism is focused on freedom and equality for all, and operates on democracy and capitalism. Personally, I don’t think it works, but that’s my opinion. A mixed economy is one that combines aspects of a centrally planned economy (the kind more commonly associated with socialism), and a market economy.

Individualism Individualism is the ideology that focuses on the freedom and rights of individuals over the will of the group.

Conservatism Conservatism is an ideology that focuses on tradition and minimal change.

Facism Facism is an ideology that focuses on nationalism and racism. It is a type of dictatorship focusing on how some people are greater than others. It believes that the elite know what is best for the nation and that individual interest is only good when it benefits the nation.
