JOSEPH & ALEXANDER Spring / Summer 2020

The brand JOSEPH & ALEXANDER Joseph & Alexander is a family run business with a deep appreciation for the role of the ocean in nurturing a happier planet.   Quirky, sustainable, durable and laced with imagination Joseph & Alexander’s environmentally conscious pieces are designed to inspire the imagination and provoke curiosity.  Our brand was created to make a difference and we believe in creating conscious swimwear. As we continue to grow we are always learning something new and evolving as a brand within keeping with our sustainable values..

SUSTAINBILITY & OUR APPROACH Our shorts are made from recycled plastic bottles this fascinating procedure works first, by the plastic waste being sorted, then shredded into clean flakes, melted, extruded and then spun into polyester yarn for our fabric.  Our swimsuits are made from ECONYL®, a 100% regenerated nylon made from abandoned fishing nets and nylon waste from landfills and oceans around the world. With critical world issues and taking action both forming a core part of our business we decided to use both sustainable fabric options.  We operate in a conscious manner, using eco-friendly ink to minimise our impact on the environment, our packaging includes a re-usable cotton twill bag (a bag for life) and we are sun protected with a UPF 45+.  In January 2020 we launched our J&A re-recycling initiative to stay committed to our sustainable values.

Family Collection SS20 J&A introduce a full collection for the entire family from our mama & me to dad & son. Keeping in theme with our ethos our inspiration behind the designs all stem back to the ocean, environment and nature. Our aim is spark an educational conversation through our visual designs and production methods.

As the first plastic pollution charity in the UK, Plastic Oceans UK mission is to raise awareness of plastic pollution as a call to action to protect our beautiful and vulnerable oceans.  Working for five years on the first BBC Blue Planet series, Jo saw first-hand the growing impact of ocean plastic. The Foundation embarked on an ambitious project to create the definitive feature-length film with the World’s leading scientists and conservationists, to reach as many people as possible. That ambition was realised with the release of A Plastic Ocean in 2017, to acclaim and international awards. With over 300 million tonnes of plastic produced globally each year, 8 million tonnes are reaching our oceans. We still have a great deal to do. Plastic is an important material in our lives. But it doesn't belong in our precious oceans.  In support of this awesome foundation Joseph & Alexander have created two designs highlighting plastic and the affect it has on the ocean, not only do these pieces tell a story but they are made from plastic bottles that is recycled into fabric!  Joseph & Alexander will donate 10% of our annual profits to support Plastic Oceans Foundation.
