As the dirt and overgrowth is ripped up and swept from the Namibian soil with visible enthusiasm by communities, associations, businesses and ordinary Namibians of all walks of life, the true beauty of our country is revealed inch by inch. It is a rediscovery of the timeless values of the most beautiful Namibia that a nation will fall and stand by. Maybe it arrived a little later than expected, but a Namibian Spring of positive change and national duty arrived and is clearly unstoppable. Dr Geingob has revived the legendary - but often ignored spirit of Namibian volunteerism, patriotism and responsibility - with a clean-up that started some time ago, and will only be launched in the next 24 hours. The Geingob journey started a long time ago and only the mists of political factionalism and misguided self-importance cast a cloud on various previous campaigns that the President spearheaded in communities. The cleaning of riverbeds and potentially dangerous places, codenamed Project Omake, and the recent campaign to combat Hepatitis B are but a few examples of Geingob initiatives that deserve credit for consistency and belief in civic duty that is responsible for what can rightly be regarded as a Namibian spring in the most challenging of economic times. The transformation of society and the rediscovery of proud Namibian values will be unstoppable. The people of Namibia reaffirmed their near-unanimous support, trust and faith in the President who rewarded it by staying his course. What everyday Namibians also demonstrated and which must also serve as a warning shot to some politicians, is that unlike some of them, citizens, do follow good examples and leadership, unlike the politically bankrupt and the hangers- on. Some ministers, governors and high-ranking officials will do well to rather follow the example of president Geingob and stop attempting to roar with lions at the African dawn and laugh with the hyenas at dusk. The landscape might be littered, but a healthy Namibian heart of ageless values is emerging. The nation can be proud of the heart of a Namibia that that they discovered in themselves.

24 May - 30 May 2018 ADVERT 11 CLARIFICATION TO AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN THE NAMIBIAN SUN OF WEDNESDAY, 9 MAY 2018 TITLED ‘MILLIONS DOWN THE DRAIN’ The Namibian Sun, a daily newspaper, published an article titled, ‘Millions down the Drain, on Wednesday, 9 May 2018, regarding the trainingprogram of the Children of the Liberation Struggle (CLS), at Berg Aukas Youth Skills Training Centre near Grootfontein in Otjozondjuparegion.Through Cabinet Decision Number 17/16.09.08/002, the Government of the Republic of Namibia deemed it necessary to address the plightof the Children of the Liberation Struggle, by mandating different Offices, Ministries and Agencies to prioritize the welfare of the Childrenof the Liberation Struggle, also known as ‘struggle kids’. This culminated in rolling out a special training programme aimed at impartingtechnical skills to this vulnerable segment of our society aiming to enhance their chances of employment. Towards this end, the Ministry ofSport, Youth and National Service was directed to facilitate the training of CLS at Berg Aukas Youth Skills Training Centre in Grootfonteinand Kai//Ganaxab Youth Skills Training Centre in Mariental. This special training programme consists of two phases of training, namely, Civic Training (Phase I) and Skills Development Training (PhaseII). The Civic Training (Phase I) is conducted by the Ministry of Defence. The Skills Development Training (Phase II) requires the appointmentof Instructors who needs to receive remuneration for their services. It should be noted that the nature of the training is unique in the sensethat it does not follow the conventional technical vocational education and training calendar. Therefore, Instructors are appointed on contractfor five (5) months in line with the programme design and implementation. This temporary employment opportunity is granted to youngNamibians with qualifications. The special training programme started at the end of 2016. To this end, seven hundred and ninety three (793), Children of the LiberationStruggle have successfully completed their training at various centres such as Berg Aukas Youth Skills Development Centre, Simon MutumbaPolice Training College and at the Namibia Institute for Mining Technology (NIMT). Two hundred and ninety nine (299) Children of the LiberationStruggle (CLS), are currently undergoing Civic Training at Berg Aukas Youth Skills Training Centre near Grootfontein in Otjozondjupa Region. The published article in the Namibian Sun of Wednesday, 9 May 2018 titled, ‘Millions down the Drain’¬ was malicious and deliberatelycontrived to cast aspersion on the image of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service. Since the launch of the training programme, the conduct of the CLS has been nothing but exemplary and articles such as the one published should be treated with the contempt itdeserves. The article alleges that N$11.3 million secured from the Social Security Commission for the training of the Children of the Liberation Struggle, created a public uproar because the funds were meant for unemployed young people, which in itself is nothing but a blatant mispresentationof facts. What is true, is that the Social Security Commission together with the Government of the Republic of Namibia, considered it anational priority to allocate the funds specifically to the programme of the Children of the Liberation Struggle. The assumption that the fundswere meant for unemployed young people and government diverted the funds to the CLS and this caused an uproar is unfounded and issimply meant to publicise a distorted opinion.Of importance is to impart to the general public information on how the training is structured. As stated in the previous paragraphs, the trainingconsist of two phases, of which phase one the current intake at Berg Aukas is soon to finish, as their pass out parade is set for end of May2018. In preparation for the second phase, advertisement for the sourcing of local experts has already been placed in local newspapersand the hiring process is soon to be finalized. It is anticipated that the instructors for the second phase of the training programme will beon site, rendering the discussion on instructors an invalid point. While being appreciative of the technical assistance the Federal Republic of Nigeria has given to Namibia, one must consider the high rateof unemployment amongst qualified young Namibian artisans, equipped to offer similar training. As the Ministry mandated to ensure YouthEmpowerment it will be simply irresponsible and a neglect of duty not to consider young Namibians for positions they are rightly qualifiedfor. With respect to the purported claims of starvation at the centre, this was due to shortcomings in the payment process. But, this was addressedthe soonest, as approval was granted for the Centre to slaughter a bull. Also, two bags of rice (50 kg) was secured through the office ofthe Constituency Councillor in Grootfontein, including other basic food. The supplier resumed delivery to the Centre before the end of theweek. This in fact was done before the trainees went on one week break for the commemoration of the Workers’ Day as well as CassingaDay respectively. The CLS that are undergoing training at Berg Aukas Youth Skills Training Centre reported back at the Centre on Sunday,6th May 2018.The Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service values the role of the media and welcomes constructive interactions. Let us work together, this is our Namibia, our pride and our country! DM0201800305065 KA
