ABOUT THE VILLAGE Founded in 1982, The Independence Village provides safe, affordable housing for adults with mental and/or physical challenges that fosters community involvement and independent lifestyles. VILLAGE LIFE The Village offers private and semi-private assisted living for up to 24 adults in 12 spacious suites. Residents are encouraged to make proactive choices that challenge and improve their life, social and recreational skills. Residents enjoy autonomy, yet still benefit from the supervised and safe environment of the Village community. Residents leaving home for the first time, or that have lived in other care settings, find their new life full of growth opportunities and leisure/social activities.

WHAT WE DO Residents at The Independence Village overcome their individual challenges through work, education, play and other activities. WORK Several of our Residents are employed and enjoy being part of their community and thriving as full or part-time employees. EDUCATION Located near College of the Mainland and UTMB provides access to local educational facilities. Residents benefit from programs related to physical education and nutrition. RECREATION Village Residents participate in a variety of leisure opportunities. Playing games, art and crafts, karaoke nights, weekly bible studies and special outings within the community.

SUPPORTING THE VILLAGE Independence Village offers a competitively priced monthly fee to residents but also relies on grants from individual and corporate sponsors and charitable foundations. These funds allow us to continue our mission of helping our residents find their V.O.I.C.E., empowering opportunities to learn, work and connect in an affordable manner. The Independence Village is enriched by its dedicated core of volunteers that assist in areas such as transporting residents to work and church, helping with fundraisers, donating supplies or groceries, chaperoning outings and provide a variety of events for the Residents.
