LOT 323 T$1 1878-S STRUCK 5% OFF CENTER. PCGS XF40 Error coins from this era are incredibly RARE, and the larger the coin, the rarer the error. This remarkable OFF CENTER struck 78-S Trade Dollar is a real trophy coin, one of perhaps three such coins known in the entire series! First off, we believe PCGS was conservative in their grading, we would not be shocked if at some time it was called AU, as the “wear” is quite minimal, and we doubt this coin actually went into circulation--it is more likely that the discoverer of this curiosity carried it around as a pocket piece. Struck off center towards 1:00 on the obverse, there is a margin along the opposite rim. Only light friction is noted, all the devices retain strong definition throughout. Very cool, deep toning “pulls away” from the peripheral devices accentuating the off center strike. The eye appeal is clearly unique and intriguing. This is a VERY RARE error, possibly unique for the date, and perhaps a handful exist for the entire series. Our estimate is based on our consignor’s conversations with Fred Weinberg, Fred believes that this coin could realize anywhere between $35,000 and $50,000, but who knows! This is a truly unique opportunity to acquire a very important and visually impressive Mint error. We would like to congratulate the winning bidder in advance on this one! LOT 324 T$1 1876 TRADE PCGS PR64 CAM CAC This is an old friend of ours, having been sold in both our Regency Auction IX and our October 2019 Regency Event: Exclusively Legend. Its quality is ULTRA HIGH END for the grade and borders on a DCAM designation and GEM quality. Deep, beaming mirrors are remarkably clean and have exceptional clarity. Untoned brilliant silver gleams, framed by a very narrow band of pale blue. The thickly frosted devices stand out boldly in stark Cameo contrast to the fields. There are only a few light lines visible with the aid of a strong glass. The eye appeal is tremendous! Only 1150 Proofs were struck. PCGS 24, NGC 14, CAC 5. The current Collectors Universe value is $4,500 in PR64 CAM and is $8,500 in PR65 CAM. This is the last one to sell, bringing $5,405 in our October 2019 sale. Good luck! PCGS MS64+ DMPL CAC An old friend, a GEM DMPL example of the first year of Morgan dollar series that we sold back in 2018, where it was described as: “A gorgeous REAL DMPL example of the first year of the Morgan dollar. The 7 Tail Feather, Reverse of ‘78 is very scarce in DMPL, with anything finer being quite rare. Deep mirrors contrast nicely against the sharply struck and frosty reliefs. Typical to the series, the reverse, if graded on its own is without question a full GEM. The obverse has a few teeny ticks but none that are distracting.” PCGS 147, NGC 119, CAC 4. Clearly CAC is really tough on these DMPLs and there are only eight graded MS64+ DMPL. This coin sold for $5,288 in our January 2018 Regency Auction XXV. LOT 360 $1 1921 CHAPMAN. PCGS PR67 Legend Rare Coin Auctions is honored to present the FINEST KNOWN 1921 Chapman Proof Morgan dollar. Of the entire series, the Chapman Proofs are among the RAREST of the RARE regardless of condition. It is estimated only 40 were minted by special request by the Chapman Brothers, coin dealers in Philadelphia in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Like Farran Zerbe, who also had specially issued Morgan dollars in 1921, they had connections in the Philadelphia mint, and they were obliged. The Chapman Proofs look more like the Proofs that were struck in 1878-1904, while the Zerbe Proofs (which are more “common” ) have more of a “Specimen” finish. Unbelievable quality mirrors are ultra bold, deep, and flash endlessly from all over, offering stunning clarity and cleanliness. The classic Morgan dollar design types are exceptionally well struck and display thick mint frost, creating a nearly full CAMEO contrast and bold look. There are a few tiny die polish lines in the fields, but they are mint made and microscopic, visible only with the aid of a strong glass and have no impact on the totally awesome visual allure of this HISTORIC numismatic RARITY. PCGS 1, NGC 1. This SUPERB GEM--the FINEST KNOWN-- last sold in our November 2018 Regency Auction for $229,125, a world record price for a Chapman Proof Morgan. A bold, brilliant, cartwheel luster booms all over on both sides. The details are sharply impressed with full, crisp definition seen on Liberty’s portrait and eagle’s wing feathers. The delicate overtone of pearly iridescence. There are no flaws worthy of mention and the eye appeal is incredible for this otherwise common issue. PCGS 941, NGC 1494, CAC 309. The Collectors Universe and CAC CPG values of $475 and $455 will prove too low when this one crosses the block. PCGS/CAC examples in MS66+ have sold in the $1,650 to $2,820 range, and we think this one will sell in the spread between MS66 and MS66+ prices. A great coin for the pickiest of collectors. LOT 364 $1 1925 PCGS MS67+ CAC What a stunning SUPERB GEM! One of the FINEST 1925 Peace dollars in existence! This is a PRISTINE beauty with a thick frosty mint luster that booms boldly and brilliantly on both sides. Every detail, no matter how minute, is sharply struck up and quite lovely. The eye appeal is further enhanced by the most delicate pastel hues. Essentially PERFECT, this is a real monster Peace dollar! PCGS 161, NGC 124, CAC 52. There are just 8 in MS67+ and a single MS68 finer. We sold one in our May 2018 Regency Auction for $32,900, more recently an example brought $25,200 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $30,000. The single MS68 sold about a decade ago for $89,125. That coin is NOT CAC, so if you are building a CAC-only set, this SUPERB GEM is tied for FINEST. Bid accordingly! PCGS# 7365 | EST: $24,000+ 216
LOT 365 $1 1925 NGC MS66 CAC This is a BLAZING ball of luster! Bold and beaming with a white hot incandescent cartwheel bloom, this GEM stands out from the crowd! Sharply struck and nearly devoid of any contact this coin has an amazing look! PCGS 2106, NGC 1879, CAC 618. The APRS and Price Guides are useless! This is a very high end example that does not fit nicely into the pigeon holes of published numbers! PCGS# 7365 | EST: $500+ OUR ESTIMATES The estimates you see published in this catalog are based on HAMMER. Keep in mind that a coin could be either low or high end for the grade, have stunning color or be dull, all of which radically affect a coin’s value. Yes, there can be huge price differences within a grade, and we offer estimates as a guide so Collector’s can have a better idea of value. One thing we will never do is offer low ball estimates in order to claim stronger sales. These published estimates represent what Legend Rare Coin Auctions determines to be an approximate high wholesale value for the coin. The numbers are based upon current market values, similar trades, auction prices, published prices, and a consideration of the coin’s quality. There is no guarantee that the estimated prices are minimums or are exactly what you can expect to get if you attempt to resell them wholesale. We always advise you to view the coins you are interested in and calculate what you’ll pay using as much information as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us. Legend Rare Coin Auctions is honored to offer the Gerald R. Forsythe Collection of Proof Indian Head Eagles. This is a world class cabinet of these very special and important 20th century rarities. Each coin is not only of superlative Gem grade, but each was carefully selected over the years by Legend Numismatics, and all part of the famed “Far East” set, before being purchased privately by Mr. Forsythe. This Hall of Fame set is the ALL TIME #1 PCGS Registry Set, with a weighted GPA of 66.29. Every one of the eight coins in this amazing set is CAC approved and ultra high end in terms of visual and technical quality, none of which have been “conserved” in an effort to reach a loftier numeric grade, as so many of these precious numismatic treasures have been over the years. Each coin in the set would be a highlight for any major numismatic auction, but to have the entire set in one auction, with such high quality examples is an event that likely has not happened in a generation. $10 1908 MOTTO. Proof Eagles had been struck going back to the mid-1830s when a few novodel 1804 eagles were struck for placement in diplomatic presentation sets. Starting in 1838 when eagle coinage began again, small numbers of Proofs were struck for collectors. As the decades passed, and numismatics became a more common pursuit, the mintages of Brilliant Proofs increased, but remained under 100 pieces for most years. Starting in 1907, when the mint changed over from the Liberty Head to Indian Head design types, a different finish was tried. Prior to 1908, all Proofs were struck with a reflective mirrored brilliance. Mints in Europe had begun changing their finishing techniques in the 1890s to a sandblast, or matte finish. The Philadelphia Mint saw this design change as a good opportunity to experiment with the matte finish as well. In 1908, the mint began selling Matte Proof gold sets to the collecting public. The new artistic concept was not “shiny” as in earlier issues, and much of the mintage was left unsold and later melted. In 1909 the mint changed to a more satin finish, which, while “shiny” was not reflective in the way that the Proof Liberty Head gold coins had been. These too were a commercial flop, and in 1910, the Roman finish was introduced, and it looks like a cross between the 1908 and 1909 issues. Again, collectors did not warm to the Roman Finish, and the sand blast matte finish was brought back from 1911 to 1915 when the mint finished producing Proof gold coins. While contemporary collectors did not take a shine to these lovely pieces, modern collectors appreciate the beauty and rarity of the Proof Indian Head eagles. Our offering of the Gerald R. Forsythe Collection of Proof Indian Head Eagles will be a highlight of the entire numismatic year in 2021. While lesser grade Proofs might appear at auction from time to time, a complete set, well matched in terms of quality and eye appeal, with CAC approval is an opportunity that cannot be missed! 219

LOT 370 $10 1911 PCGS PR67 CAC This is one of the coolest Matte Proof $10 Indians we have ever seen. As with all of the coins in this amazing set, the quality is SUPER HIGH END! Amazing SUPERB GEM Original Matte surfaces are pristine. Using a strong glass and looking around only impresses you even more. There is a slight glow of luster. Remarkably both sides are deep matte color with vivid hints of orange all over. There are NO flecks, spots, or discolorations anywhere. The details could not be any more fully struck. The eye appeal is totally insane! Only 95 were ever minted. PCGS 9, NGC 8, CAC 3, PCGS has graded one coin higher, a PR7+. The last auction record for a PCGS CAC piece was $192,000 in April 2018. LOT 371 $10 1912 PCGS PR66 CAC PCGS showed NO mercy on this magnificent piece. We rank it a 66+ all day long (no promises)! There is only a single microscopic HIDDEN die chip on the obverse that holds this killer coin from PR67. The sand blast matte texture is clean, thick, and smooth. There is a wonderful and totally original orange gold patina. We can’t say enough about the extreme strike. Every detail is incredible, and the eye appeal is amazing! PCGS 6, NGC 8, CAC 3. The last example to sell at auction brought only $77,027 back in January 2015. It says an awful lot when a date has not been offered in six years. The current Collectors Universe Value is $90,000. We think that is too low and that today this is a six-figure coin. We expect intense bidding here. PCGS# 8894 | EST: $90,000+ 229

LOT 372 $10 1913 PCGS PR67 CAC Even those that are not brilliant Proofs, sometimes they can still be outstanding. This coin is beyond that, and is tied with just two other coins for FINEST KNOWN! We also say this coin is VERY HIGH END! Marvelous sandblast finish surfaces are uninterrupted. The surfaces beneath are perfect. As typical for the date (from the alloy mix) both sides enjoy an original deeper olive gold color. There are NO flecks or discolorations anywhere. Miss Liberty and every detail are needle sharp in strike and boldly stand out. The eye appeal is attention grabbing! Only 71 were minted. PCGS 3, NGC 4, CAC 2 (this very well could be both). There is no auction record for any PCGS PR67 ever selling. Somehow the current Collectors Universe Value is $195,000. The rarity of ANY Matte Proof $10 in such a lofty grade like this is UNDER-rated. These simply to NOT exist with a CAC bean. If you seek a Type coin, a great piece for a $10 set, or if you just buy super rare coins, then this is your piece! Good luck! LOT 373 $10 1914 PCGS PR65 CAC We searched all over the world for coins for the Far East Eagle set (Forsythe’s predecessor). A 1914 is extremely rare in GEM. This coin is a wonder example. Most important, this coin is totally original. It has moderate sandblast surfaces. When using a strong loupe, you can see a few very minor imperfections. There is a small light stain in the headdress. Both sides are a more moderate deep gold color. Of course Miss Liberty and every detail stand out with razor sharp strikes. The eye appeal is all there for this GEM! Only 50 were minted. PCGS 8, NGC 9, CAC 3. There are just two coins finer, neither of which have ever sold in auction. The last PCGS CAC piece to sell in auction brought $84,000 in April 2018. For sure this is a rare opportunity. PCGS# 8896 | EST: $75,000+ 233

Remarkable original sandblast Matte surfaces are a delight to behold all over. Only when using a strong glass can you see a few faint small shiny areas. Nothing is visible to the naked eye. The color is a moderate deep gold. Miss Liberty and the entire strike are just incredible. Even the stars on the rim stand out! The eye appeal of this SUPERB GEM is fantastic! Only 75 were minted. PCGS 5, NGC 6, CAC 2. PCGS has graded only a PR66+ higher. No PCGS CAC piece has ever been sold via auction. In fact, the last piece to sell that way was a non CAC which brought $99,875 12/2014! 7 LONG years ago. What is this worth today? We shall find out. Be prepared to pay much more then $99,000! LOT 375 G$1 1856 SLANTED 5. PCGS MS66 CAC Of the two major variations of 1856 gold dollar, the Slanted 5 is the more available, but most are known in lower grade. PQ Gems as offered here are indeed quite rare and anything finer must be regarded as EXTREMELY RARE. This is visually appealing example with a soft, medium yellow gold coloration that is brought to life with a thick, satiny finish to the frosted surfaces. A glowing luster beams around the crisply struck up devices. There are only the most minimal breaks to the mint frost, but otherwise the surfaces are without flaw. Needless to say, the eye appeal is awesome. PCGS 12, NGC 4, CAC 5. The most recent example brought $5,280 in the 2019 FUN auction, while this coin sold a few months prior for $5,760. The Collectors Universe value is $5,000 and the CAC CPG value is $5,620. A great type coin that will delight anyone working on a gold type set. Bid accordingly! PCGS# 7540 | EST: $4,000+ LOT 376 G$1 1889 PCGS PR66 CAM CAC A sensational GEM CAMEO PROOF example from the final mintage of gold dollars. Off the market for decades, this coin comes from the same estate as the 1793 S-14 and 1852 Humbert $50 we sold in our February 2021 Regency Auction. Blazing, deeply reflective fields, beam all over on both sides. The devices are sharply struck up and have a thick, creamy frost that creates a stunning cameo contrast. The surfaces are essentially without flaw and both sides possess a glorious orange-peal texture. A toning dot or two are noted and attest to the wonderful originality of this FRESH GEM. PCGS 10, NGC 1, CAC 1. There is just a single coin graded higher in the CAMEO designation. No PCGS PR66 CAM has sold in auction for nearly seven years! The Collectors Universe value is $15,000. Good luck! PCGS# 87639 | EST: $10,000+ LOT 377 $2.50 1906 PCGS MS67+ CAC OUTSTANDING! It is amazing that this is not the FINEST KNOWN of the date! The technical and visual qualities are off the charts! A thick, satiny luster booms brilliantly over the frosty golden surfaces. Flawless fields and design reliefs are sharply struck up with razor precision. A medium honey gold color is brought out by the mint bloom and gives this totally original SUPERB GEM a great look. Tied for second HIGHEST graded at PCGS, there are precious few that survive so fine! PCGS 109, NGC 85, CAC 36. There are just 11 graded MS67+ and two finer at PCGS. The PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $5,000 and that is around what these bring on average. The last 68 to sell brought $24,000 in 2018. Seems like a good value to us! LOT 378 $2.50 1900 PCGS PR62 CAM A lovely CAMEO Proof quarter eagle, which, despite its modest grade, retains a bold contrast between deeply reflective fields and thickly frosted devices. The eye appeal is quite nice for the grade, and there are no serious marks or hairlines, we are not sure why CAC did not bean this really nice example--the quality is essentially CHOICE! Only 205 Proofs were struck. PCGS 5, NGC 11. The last one to sell was way back in January 2012. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $4,200 and it would not shock us if this one brought more. Good luck! PCGS# 87926 | EST: $3,600+ LOT 379 $2.50 1906 PCGS PR65 A FRESH to the market GEM Proof, contained in an old estate collection until consigned to this sale. Highly reflective fields are glassy and smooth. They beam boldly on both sides. The devices are sharply struck and they do stand out with a light contrast, but they are mostly a glossy-reflective texture, rather than a thicker frosty texture. The eye appeal is very nice. Only 160 Proofs were struck. PCGS 13, NGC 6. The last one sold in the 2013 FUN auction, realizing $14,100 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $15,000. Nothing finer has sold since 2012! A rarity that rarely appears in auction in this high a grade and bound for a wonderful gold type set or specialized set of Proof quarter eagles. PCGS# 7932 | EST: $10,000+ 237
LOT 380 $2.50 1908 PCGS PR64 CAC A very pleasing, nearly GEM quality example of this now popular Proof issue. The mint produced 236 Proofs during this first year of the Bela Lyon Pratt design, part of the Renaissance of U.S. Coinage that Teddy Roosevelt envisioned when he and Augustus St. Gaudens began redesigning the $20 and $10 gold pieces a year earlier. The Matte finish, which had been used in Paris, Rome, and London mints going back to the 1890s, was completely different than the brilliant reflective finish used on Proofs going back to the 1820s, and proved unpopular among contemporary collectors. The Matte finish was created by blasting the dies and planchets with a fine grit sand which imparted countless tiny facets that glint in the light. A totally original, essentially GEM quality sand blast Proof quarter eagle that is a delight to behold. The surfaces offer a wonderful Matte finish with infinite microscopic facets that reflect the light. Unlike the majority of survivors that have been dipped and stripped of any originality in an effort to get a higher certified grade, the present coin offers a natural olive-tan golden patina. The details are needle sharp. There are two minor scratches noted in the obverse field that keep this awesome coin from an even higher grade. The eye appeal is very high end for the assigned grade. PCGS 24, NGC 18, CAC 4. This coin is from the March 2017 sale of the Blue Moon Collection which featured a complete 1908 Proof Set where it realized $21,125. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $19,000 and the CAC CPG value is $21,600. This is a great looking near-GEM that should see spirited bidding. PCGS# 7957 | EST: $18,000+ LOT 381 $5 1805 PCGS AU55 CAC A crusty, original CHOICE AU BD-2. A somewhat scarce R-4 die marriage that is popular for the collector. Light friction is seen on both sides and there are some minor traces of contact from its time in circulation. Some minor traces of mint made die adjustment marks are seen, noted for full disclosure, but they do not detract from the generally very pleasing eye appeal. PCGS 34, NGC 20, CAC 15. The last PCGS/CAC example sold five years ago, realizing $11,171. The current Price Guide values are $11,500 at PCGS and $12,300 in the CAC CPG. A popular early federal gold piece in a very popular collector grade. Bid accordingly! PCGS# 8088 | EST: $10,000+ 238
LOT 382 $5 1853-D LARGE D. PCGS VF25 CAC A lovely, collector grade Dahlonega half eagle. Orange and olive tinged patina on both surfaces. There are some tiny ticks from a long time in antebellum commerce, but none are detracting. For the assigned grade, the eye appeal is great. PCGS 7, NGC 4, CAC 2. The only VF25 to sell was an NGC/CAC coin that sold in a May 2020 internet auction for $2,000. The Current CAC CPG value is $2,500 and the Collectors Universe value is $2,000. A great collector coin--highly desirable as a CAC approved example. PCGS# 8255 | EST: $2,000+ LOT 383 $5 1903-S PCGS MS66+ CAC With a healthy mintage of 1.855 million, the 03-S is common in lower Mint State grades, up through the MS65 level, at MS66 it becomes scarce, and in 66+ it is down right RARE! This stunning GEM is bordering on the SUPERB grade and it is UNIQUE finer. A blazing yellow-gold coloration is enlivened by a stunning satiny mint brilliance. Every detail is crisply struck from an exacting blow from the dies, rendering each design element to its fullest, sharpest definition. The eye appeal is stupendous! PCGS 35, NGC 41, CAC 9. There are 10 graded MS66+ at PCGS, and just a single MS67 graded higher. This coin brought $5,520 in July 2019--almost two years ago. The market has changed quite a bit since then and this one should sell for more today. Good luck. PCGS# 8408 | EST: $5,000+ LOT 384 $5 1914 PCGS MS64 Rich tangerine-gold patina is brought to life by a bold cartwheel luster that rolls brilliantly on both sides. The last one to sell brought $2,280, but the market on generic gold is stronger today. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $3,750. This early eagle is fresh, well struck and has amazing patinated surfaces with glorious original luster everywhere are semi-Prooflike and flashy. A bold strike brought up every detail on both sides. A coppery-gold color is rich and clings to the recesses of the design elements. The fields show some chatter and contact, which attest to the 61 grade, but the luster and color are better than most. This is a fresh to the market Mint State piece, consigned to us by a dealer who bought this coin from a collector that had it since the 1970s. It was just recently certified by PCGS before being consigned to our sale, giving the collecting public the first shot at owning this BU early $10 for 45-50 years. PCGS 11, NGC 13. The most recent non-CAC PCGS-graded example to sell realized $32,900 back in the 2014 ANA auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $35,000. LOT 389 $20 1873-S CLOSED 3. NGC MS63+ Ex Classic Liberty Collection, as noted on the insert. While a common issue in AU and lower Mint State grades, this amazing CHOICE BU example is the SINGLE FINEST GRADED by either service! Its quality and eye appeal are all there. Struck from an early state of the dies, there is a distinctive semi-reflective nature to the brilliant rolling luster. With a glass you can see just how fresh the dies were when this one was struck as there are a number of die polish lines that were not struck out from use. Every detail is razor sharp with full, crisp definition seen on both sides. The surfaces have some minor contact, but they are not at all hacked up. The eye appeal is excellent. PCGS 0, NGC 1. While this coin sold for $17,400 in 2019, we like it as much or more than the PCGS MS63 that sold a decade ago for nearly $28,000. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $2,350 and gold coins are very hot right now, it would not shock us if this piece sold for more. PCGS# 8984 | EST: $2,000+ LOT 391 $20 1879-CC NGC AU50 A popular Carson City mint rarity, the 79-CC saw a mintage of only 10,708 double eagles. This one has a rich orange-gold color that is enlivened by a bold, retained luster. There are some minor friction lines seen but there are no serious marks worthy of mention and the eye appeal is decent overall. PCGS 39, NGC 47. The most recent NGC-graded example sold for $12,600 and the current Collectors Universe value is $17,500. A decent coin for the collector looking for a better CC $20. Sharply struck the all important doubling is bold as are all the details of this highly original piece. PCGS 31, NGC 6, CAC 5. (this is the only PCGS MS63 graded example attributed as FS-801). LOT 393 $20 1915-S PCGS MS66+ CAC This is by far one of the very nicest Mint State 1915-S Saints we have ever seen! No question this coin is closer to MS67 than MS66! Exciting surfaces are superior to most. Only when using a strong glass can you find some microscopic ticks widely scattered around in tiny groups and a frost break or two. For a 15-S the surfaces are seriously above average in terms of BOTH cleanliness and texture. The surfaces are a slight satiny texture. We actually grade the reverse a full MS66.9+!
