Rich blue tones outline the silver-pewter, golden-russet-tan, and apricot-rose hues in the centers. The eye appeal is outstanding. PCGS 6, NGC 4. There has not been a PCGS MS66 sold in auction since a PCGS/CAC MS66 sold in February 2013 for $28,750. Prior to that, one sold in 2004. Clearly these do not appear in auction with any frequency. A blazing, underlying cartwheel luster booms under the layer of totally original pale blue, lilac, amber, rose, and gold patina that graces both sides. The devices are incredibly well struck, even in the central areas, which often show some striking weakness. The eye appeal is truly spectacular. PCGS 23, NGC 24, CAC 8. No PCGS MS65+ has ever sold in auction, but the most recent PCGS/CAC MS65 was an old green tag holdered coin that brought $14,400 in the 2020 FUN auction. This coin will prove the Collectors Universe value of $11,500 is just too low when the hammer falls. Just two coins are graded finer with CAC approval, none of which have ever sold in auction. LOT 149 50C 1834 LARGE DATE. SMALL LETTERS. PCGS MS66 CAC This is the fabulous Denny Kemp-Brent Pogue- Dale Friend O-106. This monster is tied for second HIGHEST graded at PCGS, and bested only by a single MS67. This coin boasts an absolutely gorgeous blend of colors, that range from a vibrant purple and azure tone then blends into sea-green and light gold, all brought out by a fantastic cartwheel brilliance. The surfaces are generally smooth, devoid of all but the most insignificant, miniscule ticks are seen with the aid of a loupe. The details are quite bold. The O-106 features a Large 4 over Small 4 in the date, though this repunched digit is not noted on the insert. PCGS 2, NGC 3, CAC 3. This coin may account for two of those appearances at CAC. The last time this coin sold in auction, it brought $26,400, well surpassing the PCGS and CAC Price Guide values. The single MS67 finer sold for $64,625 in the Pogue Sale. This coin, in this cataloger’s opinion has a better look, and really is a beauty. If you seek just a single, beautifully toned GEM Bust half, pay careful attention to this one! LOT 152 50C 1836 REEDED EDGE. PCGS PR62 A wonderful early Proof rarity. Only a dozen were estimated to have been struck, and is a Low Rarity-7 as a Proof. The 1836 Reeded Edge half dollar is a very important KEY to the Capped Bust series. Only 1,200 or so were struck for circulation and these early Proof strikes are perhaps what is listed in the Judd book on patterns. The first of these were struck on November 8, 1836 and were the first coins struck on the new steam powered presses. Richly and deeply toned surfaces retain quite a bit of original reflection in the fields. The devices are chiseled sharp and stand out against the surrounding fields. A powerful glass fails to reveal any serious lines or marks of any kind and the eye appeal is great for a PR62. PCGS 2, NGC 0. This coin sold back in January 2015 for $24,675. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $32,500. Note more recently we sold a PCGS PR63 CAM CAC for $47,000 in 2017. LOT 156 50C 1918-D PCGS MS66+ CAC Legend Rare Coin Auctions is proud and honored to offer the SINGLE FINEST example of this important, conditionally RARE, early KEY DATE Walker. The quality and eye appeal are off the charts! The 1918-D, despite a mintage of over 3.8 million pieces is the third most challenging issue of the entire Walking Liberty Half Dollar series to find at the GEM level or finer ( In GEM Mint State condition, only the 1919-D and 1921-S are tougher to find in this series, so this 1918-D is held in good company!), at the presently offered TOP GRADE of MS66+ level it is UNIQUE! The reason that this particular date is so difficult to find in gem mirrors that of the 1919-D, these were widely distributed in the midwest at the time of issue, few were saved by contemporary numismatists. The post World War I economy fell into a deep recession in 1921, so mintages fell dramatically, and coins that were in circulation remained there. This incredible SUPERB GEM example displays a bold uniform satiny luster with a thick, creamy, rich mint frost. Mainly pearly-silver with a blush of the softest pale champagne hue, the reverse possesses a touch of olive-tan at the right periphery. The devices are well formed and generally well struck, Liberty’s head and hand are well formed, though some minor weakness is noted on some of the drapery lines and central feather details on the reverse. A strong glass will, after a long period of intense scrutiny, reveal a few tiny traces of contact, these are generally limited to non focal areas and are well hidden. We also note a tiny fleck or two which attest to this coin’s SUPERB originality. PCGS 3, NGC 3, CAC 1. This is the ONLY PCGS MS66+ graded and there are NONE FINER! This is an AMAZING coin that is worthy of placement in the FINEST of all Walking Liberty half dollar sets. This coin is PEERLESS for the date and will certainly attract fierce bidding and a world RECORD auction price. Unpriced in the PCGS Price Guide at the MS66+ level. LOT 220 50C 1958-D PCGS MS67 CAC This is a majestic example, a SUPERB GEM that was kissed by the numismatic gods and Mother Nature in such a way that the surfaces boast a world class palette of color! WOW. A target toned obverse has every color of the spectrum with bold golds, greens, oranges, and reds. This coin rates a 10 out of 10 on our color scale. This is a gorgeous example that is totally original and very high end. The eye appeal is truly spectacular and has a very cool look. Glorious splashes of clover, emerald, and olive green blend with coppery-peach, apricot-rose, lemon-yellow, and lilac-dove patina have an almost Jackson Pollack-esque pattern. The reverse shows freckles of russet-olive scattered over brilliantly lustrous surfaces. The luster is brilliant and bold with a rolling cartwheel finish that brings out the varied shades. Sharply struck the lettering of the Liberty Bell, as well as the lines, are fully rendered, nice and crisp. Both sides are pleasing and have just a few tiny ticks from contact, but none have any impact on the wonderful visual allure. PCGS 138, NGC 46, CAC 23. There are 25 graded MS66+ FBL and a mere 2 finer. Two CAC-approved examples sold in August 2020 realizing $3,408 and $3,840. LOT 227 50C 1964 S.M.S. PCGS SP67+ QA GOLD STICKER Legend Rare Coin Auctions is proud to offer this monumental, modern RARITY--one of the greatest non-error issues of the U.S. mint in the latter part of the 20th century. The greatness and intrigue of this spectacular RARITY comes from the mystery of its creation. The history begins in late 1963, after the assassination of President Kennedy. Officials at the mint rushed to create a numismatic tribute to the slain president, thus ending the Franklin half dollar and the beginning of the Kennedy half dollar. Since the Franklin half dollar had not been in use for the required 25 years, an act of Congress authorized the redesign. Indeed, just a few days after the events in Dallas, mint director Eva Adams had Gilroy Roberts, the Chief Engraver to prepare models depicting the popular, youthful president. In January 1964, the first J.F.K. halves were struck, amounting to a total production of over 429 million circulation strikes between Philadelphia and Denver and nearly four million Proofs. Somewhere along the line about a dozen Specimen strikings were produced. These are clearly different in style to either those struck for circulation or Proofs. The devices on these Specimens are sharply struck with exceptionally bold definition in the hair and the rims are high up and fully squared. The fields show extensive die polishing marks in the reverse fields. The obverse details include a small tine off the crossbar of the 4, a feature that has never been observed on any other 1964 half dollar, Mint State or Proof, showing that these dies were used for this small production and that is it. Whether these are die trials for the new design, or as a “bridge” to the Special Mint Set pieces struck 1965-67, we do not know for sure. The first example of these specially produced half dollars appeared in Stack’s June 1991 auction, where a full 1964 set with special prepared dies was offered in lot 591. What is suspected is that these sets were made special for Eva Adams for distribution as gifts or for herself, and were sold to New York dealer Lester Merkin sometime shortly before her death in August 1991 and his in June 1992. The remaining sets that he had purchased were sold in Stack’s auctions from 1991 to 1995, a total of 9 sets made their way into the market that way. Today, about a dozen Specimen 1964 half dollars are known, making this the RAREST of all JFK half dollars, and the rarest non-error modern coin of the U.S. series. This spectacular coin is one of the two graded SP67+ at PCGS, the same grade as the D. Brent Pogue Collection coin, and is the median grade for PCGS-graded specimens. The surfaces are brilliant with its unique satiny texture that sets these wonderful rarities apart from their Mint State and Proof counterparts. The eye appeal is exceptional, as evidenced by the QA GOLD sticker, which signifies the coin is undergraded in their opinion. There is a single minor mark on the ST of STATES, which will forever identify this important coin. PCGS 2, NGC 1.While the Pogue example sold in March 2020 for only $60,000, in the past couple of years, these have taken off, as Registry collectors have fiercely gone after the precious few that have appeared in auction. A PCGS SP67 sold in April 2019 for $108,000 and an SP68 sold in the 2019 ANA auction for $156,000. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $115,000, and it would not shock us if this SUPERB coin brought that or more when the hammer falls. PCGS# 6844 | EST: $85,000+

LOT 228 | THE GERALD FORSYTHE WALKING LIBERTY COLLECTION 50C 1916 PCGS MS67 CAC What a way to start the collection! This is a remarkable HIGH END SUPERB GEM. Typically, these come not so nice-even in GEM condition. This coin is light years above all others. Absolutely flawless surfaces hold up even with scrutiny from a strong glass. You can look at it all day and all you will see is thick satiny texture with NO problems. The surfaces are 100% original. A bold glowing luster beams from all over. Both sides enjoy a light hint of gold toning at the rims. The centers are original white. Miss Liberty and the details are well struck. You do not need a glass to see the full split in the thumb. The eye appeal is wonderful! PCGS 6, NGC 11, CAC 4. The last PCGS CAC piece to sell in auction brought $35,250 in August 2015. That was 6 long years ago! This coin will not only be a tremendous addition to any Mint State Walker Collection, it will also make a great first year Type coin. We expect strong bidding here-be prepared. PCGS# 6566 95
LOT 228 | THE GERALD FORSYTHE WALKING LIBERTY COLLECTION 50C 1916-D PCGS MS67 CAC One of the most majestic examples of this first year of issue half dollars we have ever had the pleasure of handling! This SUPERB GEM is absolutely AMAZING, pristine, and a monumental example of the 16-D! For the date, the Forsythe coin is extremely well struck and very high end! Both sides are thickly frosted with a brilliant, satiny sheen. The mint fresh silver surfaces are untoned and essentially without flaw. The fields have an even, almost matte-like texture that provides the frosty beauty that defines this AMAZING coin! PCGS 5, NGC 7, CAC 3. Two examples sold in 2020 for over $50,000--clearly the CAC CPG and PCGS Price Guide values are not accurate. Do not let the incorrect published prices bias you, this has a tiny Population and at the TOP OF THE POP, with NONE FINER, this coin should be figured for a very strong price. PCGS# 6567 96
LOT 228 | THE GERALD FORSYTHE WALKING LIBERTY COLLECTION 50C 1916-S PCGS MS67 No such thing as a finer or even an equal piece. This is the sole FINEST graded by PCGS 1916-S Walker. It is more than worthy of its lofty designation! If you seek perfection, here you go. We used a strong glass and looked at the surfaces over and over and found nothing of any consequence. The surfaces have a thick satiny like texture. A thick satiny like luster beams strong from all over. Both sides are an original white. This coin was never messed with. Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck for this notoriously weakly struck date. The eye appeal is dreamy! PCG 1, NGC 1, CAC 1. This coin only sold in auction back in 2004. It brought a strong $33,350 then. Collectors Universe sees it as $65,000 today while CAC CPG is $66,000. We think its worth closer to $75,000 in the real world. Good luck! PCGS# 6568 97
LOT 228 | THE GERALD FORSYTHE WALKING LIBERTY COLLECTION 50C 1917 PCGS MS67 WOW! This is the epitome of SUPERB GEM Mint State quality! This early date is EXTEMELY RARE in this high grade, with perhaps two other examples graded MS67 and NONE graded higher! WOW! Impeccable quality surfaces are incredibly clean and pristine. A rich satiny mint frost has a gleaming silvery sheen that is bright, brilliant, and vivid. A blush of the clearest golden hue is kissed gently on the otherwise essentially untoned surfaces. We have looked at this coin long and hard with a strong glass, and cannot understand what CAC saw that precluded their awarding this beauty a green bean. The visual allure is AMAZING! PCGS 3, NGC 5. The last non-CAC example sold before CAC even existed, back in the November 2006 sale of the Anne Kate Collection. The most recent example was CAC approved, realizing a record $39,950 in the 2016 ANA auction. This stunning coin will likewise sell for more than the published prices, which in our opinion are too low. A world-class example of this early date Philly mint Walker. PCGS# 6569 98
