REGENCY AUCTION 32 LOT 251 1C 1856 FLYING EAGLE. PCGS PR65 CAC This is a beautifully toned example of the first small cent issued by the mint. By the early 1850s, a rising price of copper forced the mint to begin experimenting with new alloys and reducing the size of the large cent. Various patterns and proposed compositions were tested, and in 1856, a limited quantity of small-sized copper-nickel Flying Eagle cents were struck. While the final mintage is still unknown, it was indeed small, just enough to test the dies, show the concept to Congress, and it is thought they were restruck up to 1860. Scarce in all grades, this date is RARE in GEM, with CAC endorsed GEMs hotly contested when they appear in auction. This one has a warm coppery-orange overtone with accents of violet and olive surrounding the well struck devices. The devices are frosty and depending on the angle, the reflective fields provide a flashy contrast. The eye appeal is exceptional, a gorgeous, high end example that will delight type or date collectors alike. Long considered one of the “blue chips” of numismatics, a group of coins that is always in demand, regardless of the market conditions, in all grades, the 1856 Flying Eagle cent is a truly historic coin. REGENCY AUCTION 32 LOT 301 3CS 1854 PCGS MS66+ CAC An amazing SUPERB GEM 1854 3CS! Even though there are two finer (the MS68 is impounded in the #1 Simpson Collection Legend built), we fully rank this coin as one of the FINEST 1854’s that exist! The near-perfect surfaces are simply amazing, we even used a strong glass and looked multiple times for problems and found none. We can’t imagine how this coin lasted for 164 years in such a remarkable virtually untouched state of preservation. A full, satiny, booming luster can be seen from across the room. Outstanding cartwheels swirl all over. Only the lightest traces of toning can be seen. We do not see these so needle sharp in strike as this coin is. This is way superior to the majority of 1854’s in GEM we have ever seen. The eye appeal is super! PCGS 18, NGC 4, CAC 13. Only two are graded MS66+. An exquisite and totally original golden/rose mix of colors blankets the surfaces. The eye appeal is gorgeous! PCGS 66, NGC 33, CAC 41. PCGS has graded 12 pieces in PR67+. The last PCGS CAC piece to sell in auction brought $6,300 in October 2018. That coin was not even close to this in terms of color or quality. Good luck! PCGS# 3992 | ESTIMATE: $7,500+ LOT 329 5C 1916 PCGS PR67+ CAC THIS IS NOT THE NORTHERN LIGHTS COIN- BUT WE’LL PLACE IT IN HERE FOR QUALITY Look what we have here! We recognize this as one of the top 1916 Proofs ever graded. Yes, there are 68’s graded (many did not CAC) and this coin does best them! Absolutely flawless surfaces adorn both sides. You can look and look and you find NO imperfections anywhere. The coin also displays a bold matte proof texture. An intense luster makes the coin stand out. Both sides enjoy natural colors of lilac/gold/pale lime/rose colors which are spread out all over. Every detail is needle sharp in strike and stands out. The eye appeal is amazing! PCGS 101, NGC 51, CAC 21. PCGS has graded only 3 in PR67+. The last (and only) PR 67+ PCGS CAC sold for $17,625 in June 2016. This year, we sold a pretty PCGS PR68 NON CAC for $30,550. With only 1 PR68 CAC’d, this coin is the best you can get. We strongly advise if you are building a top set to come and see this killer piece. It belongs in one of the best collections! Good luck and be ready, we expect strong bidding here too. PCGS# 3993 | ESTIMATE: $15,000+ 148
