PCGS MS65 CAC An incredible quality, ultra high end GEM example that boasts Here is a totally original, pleasing quality GEM example of this important, key date Buffalo nickel variety. This is one of the blue chips of American numismatics, a date that is always in demand, regardless of grade or market conditions, but especially so in GEM grades. This coin is extremely well struck from the heavily clashed dies that led the mint employee to file down the dies, removing the buffalo’s leg, creating this variety. The clashes can be seen across the Indian’s portrait, turning up as raised marks on the cheek bone and in the hair. The presently offered AU50, is in our opinion one of the nicest circulated examples of this date we have seen. Just a touch of wear can be detected on both sides, mostly limited to the highest points of the design types. LOT 161 10C 1939 PCGS MS68 CAC This is a fantastic, SUPERB GEM with absolutely gorgeous colors that frame both the obverse and reverse. Concentric rings of rainbow color suggest that this beauty spent ages in an old collector album. Only long term storage in such an album, coupled with Mother Nature, could create such a melange of beautiful color. PCGS 67, NGC 90, CAC 9. This coin’s value is totally derived from the intense eye appeal of this beauty. The only comp we can find that is worthy of citing is the MS67+ from our sale of the Dale Larsen Collection, October 2017, that realized $1,293. Good luck! PCGS# 5016 | ESTIMATE: $1,000+ LOT 162 10C 1940-S PCGS MS68+ CAC WOW! WOW! WOW! This monster SUPERB GEM has multiple wow factors! It is amazing in every way! In the non FB designation, this coin ranks among the absolute FINEST graded in the entire series! The state of preservation is essentially other worldly! The surfaces are pristine! with a strong glass we can see only a tiny tick hidden in the reverse details. Intense, frosty luster blooms brilliantly through the vivid crimson, violet, and orange gold toning that dominates both sides. Save for the central band on the reverse, the details are sharply rendered from an impeccable strike. The obverse shows multiple advanced die cracks, suggesting that this may have been one of the last ones produced with this obverse adding something special to the coolness factor. PCGS 11, NGC 7, CAC 4. This is one of just three that sit at the very Top of the Population. Only one other 68+ has ever sold in auction, realizing $7,638 in our June 2019 Regency Auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $8,000. The unimprovable grade and astonishing eye appeal of this monster will vault it to record bid territory. Good luck! Keep in mind that a coin could be either low or high end for the grade, have stunning color or be dull, all of which radically affect a coin’s value. Yes, there can be huge price differences within a grade, and we offer estimates as a guide so Collector’s can have a better idea of value. One thing we will never do is offer low ball estimates in order to claim stronger sales. These published estimates represent what Legend Rare Coin Auctions determines to be an approximate high wholesale value for the coin. The numbers are based upon current market values, similar trades, auction prices, published prices, and a consideration of the coin’s quality. There is no guarantee that the estimated prices are minimums or are exactly what you can expect to get if you attempt to resell them wholesale. LOT 163 25C 1818 PCGS MS65 CAC A Condition Census B-3. This is an interesting die marriige, as its using the same obverse die as the overdate B-1 1818/5 but the die was lapped, removing the vestiges of the underlying 5 below the 8. Totally original, this is a very pleasing quality GEM Capped Bust quarter. A rich, satiny underlying luster catches the light from below a layer of pearlescent-pewter, pale blue, lilac, and tan gold. Crisply struck, with bold, complete definition to the devices. Close examination with a powerful glass reveals a few mint made clash marks, but the surfaces are generally devoid of any post minting flaws of any kind. Housed in a “Generation 4.0” PCGS holder, the first generation of the blue tag holders, in used from 1998-2002. The eye appeal of this old-holdered coin is high end and it will delight any type or early type collector. PCGS 23, NGC 21, CAC 5. The most recent example to sell was in the 2019 FUN auction, a coin that realized $28,800. The current Collectors Universe value is $28,500 and the CAC CPG value is $33,300. We know a fresh coin like this will see very strong bidding when it crosses the block, and it is a coin that will fit any GEM type or early quarter set. PCGS# 5322 | ESTIMATE: $26,000+ 77
LOT 164 25C 1820 LARGE 0. PCGS MS65+ CAC A high CONDITION CENSUS B-2 and a stunning, beautiful example! Creamy, snow white fields are booming with a vivid mint bloom and brilliant luster. Accents of light reflection beam with traces of soft champagne gold tone that flits across the surfaces. There are a couple of well concealed toning spots and a tick on Liberty’s cheek which are detected under strong magnification. Thick mint frost accents bold motifs which are remarkably free of weakness, particularly significant when one considers the screw press used to mint the coins. Five known die marriages for this date consisting of 3 different obverse and four different reverse dies. This variety, the B-2 is readily identified by the leaf which is connected to the denticles on the reverse. PCGS 3, NGC 0, CAC 3. One of just 2 coins graded MS65+ at PCGS and only are 4 finer according to the PCGS population report. The other coin has been sold twice since August 2012 where it sold for $62,625 and then again in May 2015 where it fetched $54,050 (this coin is much more attractive in our opinion). Listed in the Collectors Universe Price Guide for $55,000 and considering the desirability and rarity of the piece worth every penny and more! It will take aggressive bidding if you want to add this beauty to your cabinet! PCGS# 5322 | ESTIMATE: $50,000+ 78
LOT 165 25C 1825/4/(2) BROWNING 2. PCGS MS65 CAC This is the EXQUISITE Eliasberg-Pogue B-2 Capped Bust quarter. Its high grade quality and amazing pedigree would make it the CENTERPIECE of any early quarter collection. Frosty luster rolls over clean fields and is enhanced by undulating, pearl gray interspersed with wisps of ice blue, sea-foam green and honey gold toning in the recessed areas. The design elements are struck to full advantage and the overdate is so bold all of the numerals underneath are clear to the naked eye. A tiny tick on Liberty’s chin and a faint line on the obverse from the cap to star 8 are noted merely for the sake of accuracy. Three die pairings were used to strike quarters dated 1825. Most scholars recognize them as 1825/2; 25/3 and 25/4, but of late, it was discovered that a leftover die from 1824/2 was used as well. Although the B-2 is considered the most common die pairing, this example can hardly be considered common with regard to provenance and exceptional condition! PCGS 2, NGC 3, CAC 1. The additional pieces grade MS66 and MS66+ at PCGS. This piece fetched a strong price of $32,900 in our Regency Auction 27 in July 2018. With the majority of coins from the Pogue Collection ensconced in collectors sets, this piece represents a fabulous opportunity to add a stunning, wholly original example with an IMPECCABLE PEDIGREE to your collection. Bid liberally if you want to own this GEM! PCGS# 38975 | ESTIMATE: $30,000+ 79
LOT 166 25C 1828 NGC MS67 This is the SINGLE FINEST GRADED 1828 quarter, a coin that is two full grade points finer than any other NGC-graded 1828 quarter and is cleaner than the PCGS MS66+ CAC which is the highest graded at that service. At first glance, you would not be blamed for thinking this SUPERB GEM is a Proof. The B-4 die marriage was used to strike Proofs as well as Mint State coins, as such, this SUPERB GEM’s fields are distinctly Prooflike, with a bold flashy, mirrored texture. The fields are icy smooth, essentially PRISTINE, with no visible imperfections, even with the aid of a strong glass. The sharply struck from an early die state, the devices show razor sharp definition on both sides and is free from any cracks, clashes, or die rust. Both sides are awash in pastel blues, teals, and lilac tones with accents of gold and dove. Clearly a coin worthy of the Condition Census, both the Tompkins and Rea, et al Early Quarter references just have Proofs listed. PCGS CoinFacts lists this coin as #2 on their census, behind the PCGS MS66+ from the Kaselitz Collection. Whether that coin, or this one is actually #1, may be up for debate, but what is NOT is that this coin is ultra high end and offers a stunning old time visual allure that cannot be beat. PCGS 0, NGC 1. This coin realized $108,688 back in June 2015, where it made its first auction appearance. Housed in an older NGC holder, its earlier provenance is unknown. The Kaselitz coin, which sold for $111,625 in June 2015 is now impounded in the Dr. Charles Link Collection. This coin is cleaner and sharper in our view than that one, and this coin would make a stunning addition to any SUPERB type set or world class collection of Capped Bust quarters. You know that if we are offering this coin, rest assured its quality is all there! PCGS# 5342 | ESTIMATE: $85,000+ 80

Even if there are a few graded numerically finer, good luck finding another that looks like this one! Everything about this GEM is exceptional. From a technical quality perspective, this MS65 is sharply struck and has beautifully lustrous fields that show a swirling cartwheel brilliance on both sides. Every detail is crisply rendered by a forceful impression from these William Kneass’ updated dies. With the aid of a strong glass, nothing but the most insignificant touch can be found anywhere. The visual allure is outstanding as well. The radiant, concentric bands of gold, violet, and blue hues that caress the satiny smooth surfaces. Both sides are framed by these bands of color, like a divine halo of color. Truly a spectacular coin that ranks at the top of the Rea, Peterson, Karoleff, Kovach census published in 2010 and was the original NGC MS66* from the Madison Collection. PCGS 14, NGC 20, CAC 8. In the Pogue Collection sale of May 2015, this coin realized nearly $40,000 on an estimate of $25,000- $40,000. In the 2008 FUN auction, this coin realized $57,500. LOT 188 50C 1827/6 OVERTON 102. PCGS MS66 CAC Ex D. Brent Pogue Collection. We had the pleasure of selling this gorgeous GEM in our September 2018 sale of the Konstantine Collection, where we described it as: “Among the very FINEST KNOWN 1827/6s that survive for collectors, PCGS has only graded as single coin marginally finer as a 66+. This beautifully toned, ultra-GEM grade example has a spectacular eye appeal and clearly was lovingly cared for and preserved, a remarkable miracle of numismatic survival. A bold, glowing luster radiates with superb brilliance on both sides, rolling along on with strong cartwheels. The spectacular visual allure is augmented by a very attractive pale blue that dominates toward the peripheries, fading and blending with hues of peach, gold, and soft pewter. The surfaces are smooth and the luster is ultra creamy with a strong satiny texture. The devices are sharply struck up and crisply rendered by an exacting blow from the dies. The eye appeal is intense and SUPERB. It is almost unbelievable that a Capped Bust half could look this beautiful after so many years!” PCGS 3, NGC 2, CAC 3. In its most recent appearance, in April 2019, this coin realized $39,600 as part of the Jim O’Neal Collection. That in so short a period of time this GEM was included in the Pogue, Konstantine, and O’Neal Collections means that it is a high end coin, that even the pickiest of collectors enjoyed in their collections. You too can join their ranks, whether as a type, Red Book, or Overton collection addition. Good luck! PCGS# 39752 | ESTIMATE: $35,000+ 91
LOT 189 50C 1828 SQ. BASE 2. SM 8’S. LG LET. PCGS AU58 CAC A PRISM of color delights the senses! Lustrous surfaces are toned in a gradation of intermingled magenta, ice blue, lemon yellow, peach and lime green hues. Keenly struck devices are accented by thick frost. A hint of light rub is noted on the highpoints. A little darker toning area is seen on the R of LIBERTY. PCGS 128, NGC 0, CAC 42. An example sold in October 2019 for $990 and another in November 2019 for $725, neither of which were CAC approved. Collectors Universe Price Guide is $850. Expect feverish bidding for this toned beauty! PCGS# 6151 | ESTIMATE: $850+ LOT 190 50C 1830 SMALL 0. PCGS MS65+ CAC A real prize among 1830-dated half dollars and arguably the finest of the O-106 variety available for sale, in spite of the Overton census listing both an MS66 and MS67. But, as neither example has surfaced at auction, we are not sure of their existence. Suffice it to say, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer example of this issue, anywhere. Thick frosty luster rolls over immaculate fields toned in pewter gray hues and accented by wisps of baby blue and saffron. Fresh and original! So much finer than the average 1830-dated example which generally comes with a poor strike. A couple of teeny flea bites are noted on the chin and neck under intense magnification. PCGS 27, NGC 24, CAC 8. Five pieces are listed in the PCGS population report as 65+. This coin last sold in our Regency Auction 28 on September 26, 2018 for $12,337. Prior to this recorded sale, we sold an example for $16,450 in our Regency Auction dated December 2017 and an O-101 with a terrific provenance of Earle-Eliasberg-Gardner sold in May 2015 for $17,625. Just 7 coins grade finer at PCGS. Plan on some spirited bidding to take place for this beauty! PCGS# 6156 | ESTIMATE: $12,000+ LOT 191 50C 1836 REEDED EDGE. PCGS AU55 CAC This is a great, collector oriented grade 1836 Reeded Edge half dollar. Only 1,200 were struck, after the mint installed the new steam powered press, which allowed half dollars to be struck with a close collar. The present example shows only the slightest friction over the surfaces, retaining hints of luster under the delicate original toning. Sharply struck up, the devices show wonderful definition. Very pleasing in terms of eye appeal, this wonderful KEY Bust half dollar will delight any collector. PCGS 35, NGC 24, CAC 6. The most recent example to sell in auction brought $4,320 in November 2019, and prior to that, we sold an NGC AU55 CAC for $5,170. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $6,000 and the CAC CPG value is $6,120. CAC coins are very difficult to find in any grade, and are rare any finer! PCGS# 6175 | ESTIMATE: $4,500+ 92
LOT 192 50C 1837 REEDED EDGE. PCGS MS62+ CAC A CHOICE GR-12. This lovely and totally original example is the PCGS CoinFacts Plate for the variety. A warm satiny luster is aglow under a layer of dove, olive, and russet-tan patina, attesting to long term storage in an old collector envelope. A few tiny, ancient marks are toned over and visible only with effort and the aid of a glass. Boldly struck, the eye appeal is wonderful! PCGS 150, NGC 137, CAC 16. This is just one of two PCGS MS62+s graded. A great coin for the type collector, worthy of a premium bid. PCGS# 6176 | ESTIMATE: $3,000+ LOT 193 50C 1837 REEDED EDGE. PCGS MS65 CAC This is a gorgeous GEM Reeded Edge half dollar. A vibrant mint luster, glowing with a warm, satiny bloom. The surfaces show off a delicate iridescent, pastel tone. Rose, gold, lilac, olive and russet hues blend together on the high end, clean surfaces, unmarred by any mark of any kind. A sharp strike from cracked and clashed dies, show off bold definition and very interesting die cracks on both sides, including an arching crack from star 4 through Liberty’s cap to star 9 and multiple cracks that encircle the reverse. The eye appeal is simply AMAZING! In 1836 the Philadelphia Mint finally achieved a long standing goal of having a steam driven coining press. This meant that striking pressure would no longer be as varied as when coins were struck by men using a screw press. The mechanics of the steam press allowed for more precise and consistent striking pressure, as well as more uniform sizes to coins. This would thwart many counterfeiters who would be unable to match the high quality of the coins now being produced. In 1837 these Reeded Edge Half Dollars flowed into circulation, and this one was obviously set aside and carefully preserved. PCGS 19, NGC 40, CAC 11. This high end example is worthy of a premium bid. The average APR for a CAC-approved MS65 is $20,618 (9 coins sold between 2009 and 2019). PCGS lists a Price Guide value at $19,500 and CAC’s CPG value is currently at $19,400. This coin however is very high end and is worthy of a bid stronger than that. A GEM like this, which is PQ defined, will fit into a world class set of half dollars or type coins. PCGS# 6176 | ESTIMATE: $20,000+ 93
LOT 194 50C 1838 REEDED EDGE. PCGS MS66 CAC Among the ABSOLUTE FINEST KNOWN 1838 half dollars to survive and offering the combination of high certified grade, CAC approval, and the D. Brent Pogue pedigree, this coin is the ULTIMATE example for any advanced collector. This delightful GEM borders on the SUPERB classification and is very high end for the assigned grade. A bold and impressive cartwheel mint luster radiates from below a dappled, variegated gold, dove, tan, and olive patina on both sides. The lovely shades are brought out vividly when the swirling luster catches the light. The reverse shows a touch of reflective vibrance in the protected areas of the devices. Both sides show off a generally sharp strike from cracked dies. The obverse shows a crack that starts at the rim below star 6 across the eye lid, through Liberty’s curl, through the T in the ribbon, crossing the top of star 7. The reverse is cracked from T in UNITED to the rim between O and L in DOL. The only striking weakness of note is in the lower reverse, caused by uneven pressure. This beautiful GEM has a few tiny, insignificant ticks that are well hidden by the patination. A fantastic coin that has stunning visual allure! PCGS 3, NGC 4, CAC 2. The most recent PCGS MS66 to sell in auction was NOT CAC and brought $45,825 in our December 2016 Regency Auction. This coin brought $44,650 in May 2016 and was the first MS66 graded by PCGS to ever sell in auction. PCGS has graded just a single MS66+ finer, which is the H.P. Smith; Clapp; Eliasberg coin that sold as an NGC MS67 back in 2012, and is now impounded in the Dr. Charles Link Collection. What a great opportunity to own one of the FINEST examples of this date, do not let it pass you by if you are working on a Type or Date set. PCGS# 531080 | ESTIMATE: $37,000+ 94
LOT 195 50C 1855-S ARROWS. PCGS AU58 CAC This highly sought after date and mint is a major condition rarity in the series! Don’t be fooled by the relatively high mintage figures of 129,950 pieces coined, as many were melted and most extant specimens survive in Very Fine or lower grades! With only 4 pieces grading PCGS AU58 and mere 4 total Mint State specimens at PCGS and NGC combined, coins of this calibre are exceedingly rare. Thickly frosted surfaces are graced by steel gray and light lilac hues. Original and a prize for the quality conscious collector! Honed motifs are devoid of any weakness. PCGS 4, NGC 4, CAC 3. This coin sold in our Regency Auction 34 in September 2019 for $14,687. If you have been chasing this date for a while in a high grade, you might want to keep that bidder paddle raised high, as opportunities like this are few and far between! PCGS# 6284 | ESTIMATE: $15,000+ LOT 196 50C 1881 PCGS MS66 CAC As the mint’s focus after the passage of the Bland-Allison Act in 1878 changed to the churning out of hundreds of millions of Morgan dollars; the striking of silver minor coinage (dimes, quarters, and half dollars) shrank to low five-figure levels. Only 10,000 circulation strike half dollars were struck in 1881. Like many of these lower mintage issues this highly lustrous GEM possesses a rich, Prooflike reflection below a lightly satiny mint frost. Clearly this coin was lovingly cared for from the time of issue, perhaps in an ancient album, as both sides show a subtle halo of color at the rims. The devices on both sides show typical definition; generally sharp throughout, but with some minor weakness at the highest points. The details are frosty and stand out from the smoothness of the fields surrounding them. The eye appeal is excellent! Housed in an old green tag holder. PCGS 15, NGC 8, NGC 5. The only PCGS/CAC MS66 to ever sell in auction brought nearly $10,000 nearly 10 years ago back in December 2010. More recently the only other CAC coin, an NGC example brought $12,925 in October 2015. The current CAC CPG value is $7,500, well in excess of the PCGS Price Guide value of $5,850, showing that CAC coins are worthy of a very strong premium! This gorgeous GEM will entice strong bidding from the specialist collector. Good luck! PCGS# 6363 | ESTIMATE: $5,750+ 95
LOT 197 50C 1882 PCGS PR65 CAM CAC What a stupendous looking GEM! The eye appeal of this coin is high end and seductive, drawing the viewer deeper and deeper. Ultra flashy, watery reflective mirrored fields give a strong vibrance to the beautiful violet, rose, gold, magenta, cobalt, and teal toning that frames the brilliant central devices. The devices are sharply struck up and thickly frosted, imparting a bold, cameo contrast that is framed by the beautiful toning. We had a hard time putting this one down! PCGS 24, NGC 16, CAC 7. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $3,750. Only a single CAC-approved example has ever sold in auction, bringing $4,113 in the 2014 FUN auction; six full years ago! Clearly these are RARE and don’t come up for sale with any frequency. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! PCGS# 86443 | ESTIMATE: $2,500+ LOT 198 50C 1887 PCGS PR67+ CAC Fathomless depths of color are intricately woven over deeply resplendent fields with mirrors so deep it looks like running water! For the color lover, the buck stops here! The centers are tangerine and rose, graduating out to violet, electric blue, neon green and gold at the borders. The color of Legend RENOWN! If we have to nitpick, there are two teeny tick marks below the olive branch on the reverse which are invisible without a strong loop. This coin is screaming to be in a PR-68 holder! The devices are needle sharp with rich, mint frost accenting them. Exquisite eye appeal! One of a mere 710 Proofs coined this year. PCGS 6, NGC 4, CAC 5. Tied for the FINEST 1887 Proof graded at PCGS with 3 other pieces. This coin sold in our Regency Auction 33 for $17,037, nd the current PCGS value is $18,500. Just a whisper away from PR68 status and worthy of an aggressive bid. PCGS# 6448 | ESTIMATE: $16,000+ OUR ESTIMATES The estimates you see published in this catalog are based on HAMMER. LOT 199 50C 1900 PCGS MS67 CAC Ex Akers and Duckor. You can be rest assured of quality GALORE when you realize this coin comes from such storied cabinets as those of the collectors mentioned above! TIED with one other coin for FINEST KNOWN and save for a faint line or two this coin would be an MS68! Remarkably, this piece looks prooflike. Radiant mirrors are enhanced by pink, tangerine, lemon yellow, lime green and royal blue overtones. Heavy mint frost accentuates needle sharp motifs giving it a somewhat cameo-like appearance. PCGS 2, NGC 0, CAC 2 This coin first crossed the auction block as part of the Duckor Collection in August 2010 in the ANA auction and sold for $32,200, it later appeared as part of the Greensboro Collection where it sold for $19,975 in October 2015. We had the privilege of auctioning the piece in our Regency Auction 30 where it fetched the princely sum of $22,325. With no other MS67’s being graded by either service, and nothing graded finer, this is THE COIN for a world class Barber half dollar collection so bid aggressively so you don’t walk away disappointed. PCGS# 6486 | ESTIMATE: $20,000+ 97
LOT 200 50C 1905 PCGS MS67 As brilliant and freshly lustrous as the day this coin was struck 115 years ago! Satiny, pearly silver luster blooms all over. The sharply struck design elements have a thick mint frost that stands out against the smooth surfaces. There are zero major imperfections anywhere, indeed the surfaces appear pristine to the naked eye. The eye appeal is stupendous! PCGS 2, NGC 0. The only MS67 that has ever sold in auction was CAC approved and has not sold in auction since October 2015. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $20,000. Just two are graded higher, only one of which has ever sold in auction, the monster MS68+ that sold in the 2010 ANA auction and our sister company Legend Numismatics then placed privately into a major collection. This one, easily in the condition census, will bring a strong price and will fit nicely into any serious collection of Barber halves. Good luck. PCGS# 6501 | ESTIMATE: $15,000+ LOT 201 50C 1913 PCGS MS66+ CAC Tied for FINEST graded 1913 half dollar, this coin ranks with the Thaine Price-Steven Duckor Collection coin at the apex of the PCGS Population Report, and finer than the Shireman, Greensboro, Hugon, and Gardner coins. A low mintage of only 188,000 makes this a popular, date, especially in GEM grades, which are quite rare. Premium quality all the way, this satiny GEM is totally original and has a bold eye appeal. Pearly-silver surfaces gleam from all over. The devices are crisply rendered on both sides, the reverse showing tinges of a semi-Prooflike reflection in the fields. The eye appeal is, like the technical quality, SUPERB. PCGS 9, NGC 1, CAC 4. There are 4 in MS66+ and NONE ARE GRADED FINER. The Price-Duckor coin which was NOT CAC approved sold for a record $12,650 nearly 10 years ago. This marvelous coin will see very strong bidding, likely eclipsing the current PCGS Price Guide value of $18,500. This is an opportunity for any advanced Barber half dollar collector to obtain perhaps the FINEST MS66+ 1913 that exists! Good luck. PCGS# 6527 | ESTIMATE: $16,000+ 98
