LOT 368 $50 1915-S PAN-PACIFIC. OCTAGONAL. PCGS MS64+ CAC One of the greatest design types of all of American numismatics, the Pan-Pac $50 is a true classic! You really cannot help but have a true sense of WONDER when holding one of these rarities with its classical design of the helmeted head of Minvera, the goddess of wisdom on the obverse and the wise owl on the reverse. There is so much romance associated with these legendary pieces, not the least of which is the occasion for which they were coined, the Panama Pacific Exposition and the celebration of the opening of the Panama Canal, a stunning feat in itís own right. Of the original authorized mintage of 1,500 coins just 645 survived the melting pot. Its status as one of the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins in the book by Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth make this a truly important and desired type coin. The quality here is HIGH END and undeniable, bordering on the GEM classification. There are no serous issues to be found anywhere. Overall, the surfaces are clean and smooth. Its really a lot of fun to look over these big beautiful coins. The luster is typical and is decent. Both sides are a totally original Pan Pac gold color. There are NO spots or discolorations. The details are well struck. The eye appeal is very nice! PCGS 146, NGC 160, CAC 49. There are 13 in MS64+ at PCGS. Clearly there has to be a ton of duplication of submissions as the total Populations at PCGS and NGC are above the mintage of 645. The only PCGS/CAC example to sell in auction brought $102,000 in March 2020 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $130,000. Even in MS64 (not “+”) the CAC CPG value is $119,200 and it jumps to $188,800 in MS65. A great coin, indeed an American CLASSIC, that is always in demand from collectors. Bid accordingly. LOT 369 1C 1863 J-299. PCGS PR65 RB CAC A GEM example of this “transitional” Indian Head cent pattern. Struck from regular 1863 Proof dies on a bronze planchet used from 1864 to 1909. Struck in medal turn. Flashy mirrored fields beam from all over, accenting the outstanding and beautifully toned surfaces. Blazing red underlies wonderful brown and magenta accents that are really brought out by a bright light. The eye appeal is really WOW! PCGS 20, NGC 7, CAC 4. The most recent sold in April 2019 for $5,520. There are just 2 graded finer and this one is so high end it should bring a strong price. PCGS# 70454 • ESTIMATE: $2,500+ LOT 370 50C 1879 J-1602. PCGS PR66 RD CAM LRCA is proud to offer one of the FINEST graded J-1602. This beautiful GEM pattern half dollar features George T. Morgan’s famed design for the silver dollar mated with a reverse die that features a large, perched eagle with olive branch and arrows in its talons. IN GOD WE TRUST arcs around and below the eagle. Struck in copper with a reeded edge, this is a low R-7 pattern, with fewer than a dozen specimens known. A gorgeous, warm coppery orange shows a hint of iridescent toning that clings to the peripheries. Boldly reflective mirrored fields are deep, showing off a flashy, watery look. The devices show the typical striking weakness at the centers and a very thick mint frosty texture. A few tiny flecks and a tiny mark on the cheek will hopefully serve as pedigree markers, though we have not been able to positively plate match it to any earlier catalog offerings. PCGS 1, NGC 0. There are only two graded in the CAM designation. A PCGS PR66 RD sold in the 2007 FUN auction for $27,600 and in that designation the Collectors Universe value is listed at 30,000. Only two are graded numerically finer, both in the RB category, a PR66+ RB and a 67+ RB. This is a very rare opportunity for the advanced Pattern collector and once this GEM is sold, who knows when the next one will come up for sale. We anticipate a record bid when this important J-1602 crosses the block! PCGS# 569028 • ESTIMATE: $24,000+ 150
