LOT 97 5C 1955-D PCGS MS66 FS An amazing example! Tied for FINEST graded at either service, this sharply struck 55-D nickel clearly sat undisturbed for a long time in some sort of old holder, more than likely a mint set board. Totally original, the surfaces have a dusty old time patina that is accented by a bold underlying luster. The devices are sharply struck, especially the central reverse devices, where Monticello’s steps are boldly rendered by an exacting blow from the dies. The surfaces show a few tiny, scattered ticks are noted, perfectly acceptable for the assigned grade. What a great coin for anyone building the top ranking Jefferson nickel Registry Set. PCGS 4, NGC 0. Sharper and somewhat cleaner than the one that sold in our July 2020 Incline Collection for $6,169, this one is very similar in look to the one that sold for $9,694 in December 2019. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $12,500. With NONE FINER, this coin is worthy of the FINEST of sets! Good luck. In 1966, the Mint added the initials FS at the lower obverse to denote the designer Felix Schlag, coincidental with the full steps (FS) designation numismatists apply to well struck examples of this type. PCGS 6, NGC 3, none higher. Listed in Collectors Universe for $3,150. No recent auction appearances, and practically unavailable in this lofty state of preservation. Deep dove gray with warm brown and blue overtones, this lovely coin shows hints of underlying luster in the protected areas. The definition is sharp, with full definition throughout. LOT 100 H10C 1837 NO STARS. LARGE DATE. PCGS MS67 This stunning SUPERB GEM is TIED FOR FINEST GRADED at PCGS! A wonderful first year of issue for the Seated Liberty type, and many collectors over the years preferred Christian Gobrecht’s original design without the stars on the obverse as seen here. The design is more cameo like and balanced. Struck for only two years, this is a very popular type coin. The eye appeal of this impressive jewel is beyond exceptional. Sharply struck devices stand out with razor sharp definition. A dusting of iridescent dove, gold, lilac, and pearly silver gleams when you rotate the satiny surfaces in a light. The obverse especially really pops! It is hard to imagine a finer example! PCGS 6, NGC 8. Remarkable, and totally original toning adorns both sides, with a frame of steely-azure-teal that fades into an apricot-amber-gold that graces the centers. Well struck from clashed dies, and the reverse die was in an advanced, shattered state with multiple visually curious cracks and breaks throughout. A very impressive 1814 dime, these are extremely rare any finer than the currently offered MS64, especially when CAC-approval is taken into account. This example is housed in an ancient NGC “fatty” holder and appears to be fresh to the market. Its classic, old time collection eye appeal at once makes it very familiar. Struck during the height of the War of 1812, the historic date 1814 saw the British capture and burn many parts of Washington D.C., including the President’s Mansion. However, by the end of the year, British and American diplomats agreed to the Treaty of Ghent, which formally ended the conflict. PCGS 28, NGC 33, CAC 6. LOT 103 10C 1874 ARROWS. PCGS PR67 What an amazing SUPERB GEM Proof Seated dime! The mintage of 700 Proofs is in line with other dates in the series, but for some reason, very few have survived in such a high grade. Indeed, this one is just one of two PCGS graded examples in PR67 with just a single PR67+ graded higher. Both sides of this GEM have a lovely iridescent patina with rich blue, rose, gold, and violet colors on both sides. The fields show off a wonderful watery reflection on the obverse, while the reverse has a blazing, bold, and blinding reflection that taken on its own would probably warrant a CAM designation. The strike is bold, and there are no distracting marks to be found anywhere. The eye appeal is very high end and extremely rare in such a fine state of preservation. The Arrows at the date were added, as they had been two decades earlier, to signify a weight change. The coinage act of 1873 raised the silver content of the dime, quarter, and half dollar in an effort to absorb some of the silver that poured from the Comstock Lode in Nevada. PCGS 2, NGC 1. One thing we will never do is offer low ball estimates in order to claim stronger sales. These published estimates represent what Legend Rare Coin Auctions determines to be an approximate high wholesale value for the coin. The numbers are based upon current market values, similar trades, auction prices, published prices, and a consideration of the coin’s quality. There is no guarantee that the estimated prices are minimums or are exactly what you can expect to get if you attempt to resell them wholesale. LOT 243 $1 1878-CC PCGS MS64+ CAC This incredible near-GEM 78-CC Morgan dollar is from our February 2015 Regency Auction, and is from the David Hall Collection. Magenta, emerald, clover, tangerine, gold, and violet tones boldly come to life as you rotate the lustrous surfaces in a light. Sharply struck throughout the design types. PCGS# 7080 • ESTIMATE: $3,500+ LOT 244 $1 1878-CC PCGS MS66+ CAC A gorgeous Premium Quality, borderline SUPERB GEM 78-CC dollar. The magnificent obverse toning suggests its origins lay in the many bags of Carson City dollars that were stored in Treasury Department vaults that were released in the 1960s and 1970s. A bold, sweeping cartwheel luster rolls vividly on both sides of this vivacious first year of the Morgan dollar series. The obverse is awash in a gorgeous melange of pastel teal, plum, and golden hues that radiate all over. Twirl the coin in a light, and the subtle differences in the colors come to life in a brilliant manner. We rate the color a 8.5 on our ten-point color scale. The devices are sharply struck up and are very frosty. Both sides are generally clean, and were it not for a touch of contact hidden above Liberty’s cap, hidden by Mother Nature’s wonderful artistry, this coin might have graded even higher. Authorized by the Bland-Allison Act, which the mint required to strike millions of silver dollars, the Morgan dollar was born. From 1878-1904 hundreds of millions of silver dollars were struck at four mints: Philadelphia, Carson City, New Orleans, and San Francisco. The dollars from Carson City, with its famed CC mintmark, are among the most popular coins collected today. With the release of hundreds of thousands of coins in the 1960s and 1970s from the GSA hoards, once extremely scarce dates are now available for collectors. PCGS 407, NGC 204, CAC 53.
