LOT 152 50C 1864 NGC PR65+ ULTRA CAMEO This GEM Proof 1864 half dollar ranks among the highest graded in the Deep/Ultra Cameo designations, the second finest such graded by NGC, bested only by a single PR66 UCAM at that service. An amazingly deep and beaming black and white contrast is bold and gorgeous on this Civil War date half dollar. Incredible icy, reflective fields are sleek and with just some minor lines visible with the aid of a strong glass on both sides, providing a great contrast to the thickly frosted devices. The reverse shows some swirling die polish lines and traces of pale iridescence, but the overall look is black and white and quite bold. Only 470 Proofs were struck. PCGS 0, NGC 1. No PR65+ in this designation ever sold in auction. We sold a PR65 Ultra Cameo in October 2021 for $11,750 and an NGC PR66 Ultra Cameo sold back in January 2013 for $30,550. The Collectors Universe Price Guide fails to list a value in this grade, but is listed at $11,000 in PR64+ DCAM and $57,500 in PR66 DCAM. This coin will bring somewhere between these levels, and our estimate may prove very conservative. Bound for a great set of Proof Seated halves or Civil War era coins. Good luck. This is a truly marvelous beauty that will fit beautifully in any amazing Peace dollar set. PCGS 2400, NGC 1354, CAC 302. PCGS has graded 320 in MS64+. With the rarity of this date in MS65 or finer (only 74 have ever graded higher at PCGS), we suspect that there is a lot of duplication of this grade on the Population Report. The quality of this coin is much better than most seen and with the UNIQUE eye appeal the APRS and published levels are useless. Good luck. PCGS# 7374 | EST: $3,500+ LOT 290 $1 1934 PCGS MS65+ CAC A sharply struck, PQ GEM that is boldly lustrous and has just the faintest dusting of iridescent russet-gold toning. Oh so close to an even higher grade, we would not be shocked if someone was to try and get a 66 on resubmission (no guarantees). PCGS 878, NGC 394, CAC 113. PCGS has graded 40 in MS65+. The most recent example to sell brought $2,640 in November 2021. While the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $900, we think this high end CAC-approved example will sell for a strong bid over that level. Good luck. PCGS# 7375 | EST: $1,000+
