2.1 Brand Visual Elements Logo Basics The name Bow Valley College was chosen in 1998 after extensive research and consultation with government, business, the general public, college staff, and students. The College is named after the Bow Valley, the geographic area which the College serves. The Bow River flows from the Bow Lake (northeast of Lake Louise) to Bow Island (southwest of Medicine Hat) and was selected to signify the College’s commitment to the people of Southern Alberta. There are two elements to the Bow Valley College logo: the word-mark and a wave knock-out representing the Bow Valley Corridor. The word-mark should always be represented exactly as shown. The wave must be represented as negative space in the word-mark — or knocked-out — and never as an object filled with any unique colour apart from the background on which the logo is placed.
