How to prepare Please read and re-read this important information on how to prepare, because it really does make SUCH a difference. When you arrive, you will need to do nothing at all, expect enjoy the refreshments and relax. I will not require you to assist me as I work. However, before you arrive there are TWO things, I ask you to do to help me. For cake smash and children photoshoots, please make sure there not booked in during nap time or food time. Please make sure they have had a nap and snack before the session. For babies please try delay feed until just before you set off, for your session. The studio is very warm, so please dress accordingly. We know the sessions can take some time, so we supply cold drinks and a few treats, but feel free to bring your own. Why Hire a Professional? 1. Experience – when you are handing over your baby to someone you don’t know, you need to be sure they have the knowledge necessary to not only keep them safe, but to produce the images you hope for. You’re investing in someone to preserve treasured memories so choose someone who has experience under their belt because they’ll understand the technical and business side of being a photographer. 2. Safety - this has to be the most important aspect of baby photograph. Your chosen photographer will be handling your baby, so you will want to know safety is at the top of their list of priorities, even above the creation of images. Nothing should come ahead of your child’s wellbeing. 3. We get busy very quickly sometimes especially on a weekend, and often do not have spaces to fit new mums in who have not been able to book. I have turned people away, so please do book after your 20-week scan where possible. Lastminute bookings…. Can I take them? I’ll always try my very best to get you in at last minute and if my booked in babies have arrived early or late it’s possible. It’s always worth calling to ask. Is your studio safe? Yes, is the simple answer. Your baby’s safety is my top priority. Nothing will be done to put your baby at risk at any time. I’m also fully insured, and all our equipment is PAT Tested. The images you see where baby is in a tub, chair, bed or similar, are all done using padding where necessary and we sometimes ask you to give a helping hand to keep baby safe. Newborn/Baby Sections Newborn session take place in the morning, this is the best time for newborn photoshoot as baby is sleepy and more settled. Please bring all baby’s necessities and extra feeds, snack and toys for children to keep them occupied. Try to keep baby awake before the session, give them a bath and interacte, try to hold off on there morning feed, try to give it just before you leave for your session, this will help baby been settled and sleep longer. Choice of clothing (outfit changes) if required for session. For family shoots after the newborn session, planning the styling is very important, think of where you are wanting to display your images, for colours, we therefore suggest timeless plain clothing, jeans and dresses are always winners. Will you be handling my baby? Yes, I will be cuddling soothing and posing your baby the entire session, handing them back to you if I feel they need you. The posing I will be doing involves me moving your baby in a very special way, which even though their yours, you will be unfamiliar with. Rest assured though, your baby will always be safe and happy . Baby’s comfort and safety are my top priority. At any point in the session you are free of course, to ask me to hand them back. What Happens if my baby cries and won’t sleep? This is normal for at least some of the session. On occasion I don’t take a single photo for an hour sometimes longer. Each session involves settling baby when you arrive and sometimes it takes minutes, and sometimes it takes longer. Your baby is likely to wake and need a top up feed too. There’s no rush, and baby dictates how things go Will you use a dummy? Very likely YES, even if you do not use one at home, for the purpose of keeping baby settled I find using my own sterilised dummies really do help. I am moving baby while asleep in ways he or won’t be used to at home, and how he/she reacts to that will vary from baby to baby. Some are fine, some benefit from a little extra soothing using a dummy. Using one just while I pose will not cause any confusion in feeding, but if you really are against the idea, do let me know. Can I bring my other children to the session? Owing to the intimate size of my studio, I can only accommodate older siblings for a short while during the session. Also, small children will simply get bored and maybe cause disruption to the calm of your new-born session. However, I LOVE doing sibling shots and I’m sure you’d love them too, so if you like to do them let me know. Ideally you can arrange for your older child(ren) to stay just long enough to have their photograph taken with your new baby at the start or end of the session. Why does the session take so long? The session is a very calm, slow gentle and laid-back affair. Your baby runs the show….and I cannot make a baby do what he or she doesn’t want to do….so the session involves lots of quiet gentle soothing to get the best poses. Rushing the session would not work, and I will take as long as it needs. If you have an appointment on the day, please consider rescheduling your session. Clock watching creates stress, and stress with scupper the session. End of Newborn/Baby Section Cake Smash/ Messy Play Section If you are planning a family shoot after the cake smash session, bring a spare set of clothes just in-case you get messy with the cake smash. Don’t forget your cake and towel and change of clothing for Your child for after the messy play and splash. The studio is very warm, so please dress accordingly. Please look at our colour schemes and themes, we have added some photos to help you decide. We don’t provide the cake due to allergies and we don’t hold a hygiene certificate. We advise again chocolate cake as they don’t always look the best in the photos. All digital images will be sent via WeTransfer, all images are chosen by Shelly, unless you have purchased a frame in which you would need to choose your images for the frame. Session last anything up to 1hr depending on which session you choose. Sitter Section When your baby can sit unaided, a whole new world opens up to them. We now have smiles, giggles, and playful hands. These sessions are designed simply to focus on baby’s expressions and personality. Please make sure child arrives in their first outfit and bring enough outfits for your session. These are fun and quick sessions, as babies tend to get restless after about 40 mins, due to varies outfit changes, we try to move through these session's quickly to get the best smiles and photo's for your session. Bring baby ready in first outfit, and depending on which session you have chosen, please bring additional outfits. There will be backdrop changes during your session, depending on which session you have chosen. You can relax in the studio with light refreshments available, we want you to enjoy your session with us and make you as comfortable as possible. Maternity Section Pregnancy is such a wonderful time of change. Nine months really do go fast, and you will quickly have your little one in your arms. What a wonderful way to look back on how your body has changed as it nurtured your baby as they grow. Maternity sessions can include partners and siblings, or if you prefer just yourself. Sessions last up to 2hrs depending on what package you choose. Your maternity session is best scheduled between 32-36 weeks of pregnancy, when you have a nice round bump and still comfortable to move around. If you are expecting twins (or more), or are likely to have your baby early, we might decide to schedule your maternity photographs around 28 to 30 weeks. You can choose to reveal as much or as little of your bump as you want. Whatever you decide, your images will reflect your personality, show your excitement and help you to record and enjoy this special time. Why not add a make-up artist / dry hairstyling for an additional £30, enjoy your pamper session and feel a million dollars. These are forever photos to capture that special moment in your life, and to show your child when they are older, such a wonderful memory that you forget once baby arrives. These images capture your beauty whilst pregnant. Ideal clothing: tight fitting dresses, legging, t-shirts, floaty over wraps, if you are wanting white shirt shots, please don’t forget your white under, as we don’t provide this due to hygiene reasons. Family Section Session includes up to 2hrs in the studio (depending on chosen package) with access to props and accessories or location. Up to 3 outfit changes. Maximum of 6 for family sessions in studio. Location shoots - it is the client's responsible for any entrance fee, parking, or photography permits, depending on location, this will be added to your photo order at your viewing session. No clothing changes for location sessions. Clothing ideas for studio sessions, when you are choosing your clothing for your photo shoot, styling is paramount, decide where you will be displaying your images as to what colour you would like to go for, plain colours are best, and nothing with stripes, checked, or large logos as you don’t want to advise a brand on your family portraits, therefore they will not date and last a lifetime, jeans and dresses are also a nice touch, we don’t mind footwear this is optional, it’s always good for ladies to bring heels, bare feet is always best, we don’t like to shoot with socks on! Boudoir Session I create beautiful imagery of women. Not only will this experience transform the way you see yourself, but together we can create original pieces of art that you will love for years to come and give you that added confidence. Our sessions are relaxed and fun, with our all-female team of experts. Booking a makeup/dry hairstylist is always best, this will compliment your photos and you will be totally amazed at the results, especially when you come a view your photos, it’s so lovely to see ladies at their viewing session. Please bring your own underwear as we only provide prop underwear due to hygiene reasons. Items suggested are; anything see-through, matching underwear is a must, shirt or top of your partners if you would like them involved, silk wraps/gowns as also wonderful. It is important your underwear fits you correctly, otherwise loose skin overhangs if underwear is too tight, it doesn’t matter what size you are! You are more than welcome to bring someone with you for confidence, as I know it’s a huge step for us ladies, but rest assure you will absolutely love your session after the first few photos. 2D Impressions & 3D Castings At LWP we create unique 3D castings & 2D impressions of your babies, toddlers’ hands or feet and fur babies. These are then painted and finish in a wax of choice and arranged into frames, giving you a beautiful gift to treasure forever. You can book an appointment at our studio in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. We also offer home visits for Pet Paw impressions and baby castings (£10 travelling fee) if over 5 miles from Pontefract. Using colour changing products allows us to see when it sets, this is a quick and safe method, we can capture every detail of your child’s precious hands and/or feet. Finished in a beautiful handmade solid wooden frame, colour of choice with name plaque, our 3D baby casts make the perfect gift or display piece, and we can also provide the casts freestanding, on a wood or slate plinth. From: A1 South take exit for M62 , then take Jct 32, straight on through Pontefract, and roundabout take first left then passed 2nd roundabout and straight after Pedestrian crossing take a left, there is parking to the right (50p 30mins or 70p 1hr) if you park on the left there are no charges as no markings on the road, so it’s free, alternatively if you go straight back on the main road and take the next right signposted ‘Hospital’ & ‘Baghill Station’ there is lots of all day parking, 5 mins walk from studio, first 2hrs free. (You must still press for a ticket and display). You can also park in Morrisons, or if you are coming with someone you can get dropped off outside the studio and your designated driver can then park up.
