dean's message DR. LOCHAN JOLLY Warriors Magazine 2022 Dear students, It gives me immense pleasure to get this opportunity to talk to you all. Through this platform, I want to put forth one point that you are the future of the nation and thereforethere is lot of responsibility on your shoulders amidst this crisistime when Indiais fighting against pandemic which has taken the form of monster and causing large loss of life. Did it come as a surprise? Were we not aware that second wave of COVID will be more fatal? Have you thought about being in such a situation in your wildest dreams? What is your responsibility as the future of India? This is a reminder to all of us that we are responsible for being in such a situation and nature is more powerful than us. Today we all are in this situationbecause we forgot three basic principles of life: 1.Be disciplined 2.Do not be greedy 3.Care for others If we follow these basic principles all our problems will be reduced and we can use our energies to make this world a more beautiful place to live i.e. make it Vasudhaiva Kutumbakamin real sense. Think it over. God bless you all! Take care Dr. Lochan Jolly Dean SSW 1

mentor's message CDR VIJAY PRATAP SINGH It is the moment of great pleasure for me to be Mentor of NCC unit in TCET, which has been instituted on 14 October 2021 in TCET after continuous coordination and persuasion with NCC directorate of Indian Army. NCC unit has opened a great opportunity for engineering students to enhance their mental/physical fitness and also get an opportunity to join Indian Armed forces under NCC entry scheme. NCC programmes focusses on personal, behavioural, physical and mental growth of students who opt to join NCC training. While serving in Indian Armed forces for 35 years, I came across many great personalities, bureaucrats, technocrats and foreign dignitaries. I realized that the sound personality traits along with positive attitude and physical/mental fitness are key to achieve success in any field or career. As students come from different family backgrounds and environments, they carry different personalities and behaviour with them. Poor personality traits are stumbling blocks in students’ career. It is observed that the students lack essential personality attributes to deal with day to problem in their respective career goals. Streamlining of personal characteristics and traits is essentially required. NCC gives many such opportunities to improve personal qualities, physical and mental fitness. Also, NCC teaches duties and responsibilities of every individual towards the nation building and follow the ethos of National Integration and Patriotism. NCC unit is responsible for overall development of students with the help of various activities and programmes as promulgated by Indian Army during Academic Year. Such platform is highly beneficial for students who associate themselves with NCC. Students get opportunities to learn various skills such as human behaviour development, personal hygiene & grooming, event management, organizing skills, writing skills, public speaking, leadership qualities, mental and physical competence etc. In addition, NCC unit motivates students to build their career in Indian Armed Forces and conducts career-oriented workshop regularly. The magazine ‘Warriors’ is an attempt of NCC unit to showcase the roles, responsibilities, aim, objectives, features and special benefits of NCC training. The magazine is an outcome of a dynamic team and editorial board of NCC cadets. I wish that such an attempt will continue in future to enlighten the students and cadets with many more untold, unseen facts and features of our great country. Jai Hind. All the Best! Cdr Vijay Pratap Singh, Adjunct Professor E&TC and Mentor (NCC Training) 2

Care taker's message Nivant Kamble ]The premier technical institute Thakur College of Engineering and Technology strives to focus on multidisciplinary holistic education for its engineering students. The autonomous institute has pioneered many co-curricular and extracurricular activities that help students to develop their personalities. The out of turn gesture of the institute to get approval for the National Cadet Corps unit is another milestone as it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction that the institute became one of the first colleges in Maharashtra in Engineering education to start the National Cadet Corps for its students. TCET- NCC unit conducted various activities which include beach cleaning drive, patriotic Run, Republic Day Parade, and many with the guidance of 3 Maharashtra Battalion officials, the support of TCET management and Principal. The College has achieved another milestone in providing cadets with a platform to share their ideas, thoughts, opinions, and experiences in the form Magazine. Our Regiment Our Reginment 3 Maharashtra Battalion NCC Mumbai Group “A” Established in 2021 .We Started with 34 cadets in total with help of Cdr. Vijay Pratap Singh sir . NCC TCET intents at developing patriotism, brotherhood and discipline in the cadets, thereby creating dynamic and visionary leaders of future India. NCC TCET strives to fulfil the following aims: Leadership Qualities : Create a human resource of organized, trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life and be always available for the service of the nation. Personality Development : Develop character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, the spirit of adventure, and ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country. Motivation : Provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the armed forces. 13

Why nCC We Salute : \"A thoughtful mind when it sees the national flag, sees not the flag, but the nation itself.\" - Henry Ward Beecher The trademark of NCC TCET is giving the rarest opportunities to its cadets. NCC bestows the providential opportunity of saluting the flag twice a year, on Independence Day and Republic Day. The cadets also get a chance to give the coveted Guard of Honour to the higher rank officers of defense forces. When cadets pass by the flag, with uniform and ceremonials put on, the heartbeats synchronize with the beats of the march past, the salute becoming a reflex and eyes of the audience on them, there is no better feeling than that! We Fire \"One man with a gun can control 100 without one.\" - Vladimir Lenin A proximal relation with firearms is a thrilling luxury that isn't quite affordable for any general college student. But for NCC cadets, it's just one of the many perks of being part of the organisation. During the Annual Training Camp, all the cadets savour first hand experience of firing rounds from a deluxe or a sporting rifle of a caliber around 5.56mm after being trained by an army personnel. We March : \"कन्धों सेमिलतेहैंकों धेकदिधों सेकदि मिलतेहैं, हि चलतेहैंजब ऐसेतध मदल दुश्मन के महलतेहैं\" Drills are about the whole unit. They are about competing to become the best while uplifting everyone else to do better. Drills teach us that unity is everything, and discipline is foremost. At NCC TCET, students are trained in drills by their seniors in sessions that take place once a week. All the hard work churns out brilliant contingents that march in perfect synchronization in one of the grandest events in the Institute, the Republic Day Parade. Several other opportunities like the Training GC are provided where cadets can display their marching skills. 14

Why nCC We Celebrate : \"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate\". - Oprah Winfrey We always try to cherish and celebrate all the possible moments to maintain a happy environment in the organization. Festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, Lohri, Makarsankranti, Holi and many more are celebrated with full fledged preparation and enthusiasm. The celebrations are kept open for all the people of institutions who in turn always participate with full zest. The best thing about these celebrations is that they make lives richer and more full by allowing us to relax and unwind. We Compete : \"The important thing in life is not to triumph, but to compete.\" - Pierre de Coubertin Competition is the real world and those who have talent or work the hardest, become successful. Competitions are an integral part of NCC. Various GCs are organized like Cult GC, Sports GC and Training GC throughout the year which keep cadets sufficiently involved to learn and grow new potentialities and skills. During ATC, cadets compete in cult, sports, debates and training with students of other colleges as well which is quite an opportunity for students in institution We Tour : \"Because the greatest part of the journey isn't arriving at your destination, it's the wild stuff in between\" Whether it be a challenging trek to the highest peak of Maharashtra, an overnight camping followed by water sports at the sun kissed beaches of Shrivardhan or an exciting 40 km cycling trip to Marine Drive, we make sure that the oozing wanderlust inside all the exuberant freshmen is aptly satisfied. Even here a cadet gets fair sense of eliteness among the students of the institute because they get to visit military establishments otherwise not so approachable by everyone. 15

Training provideD to Cadet Piercing, shooting, fitness, map reading, First Aid, Flying, boating, sailing and camp training that include basic military training in the Armed Forces, Armed Forces and Air Force. This training is mainly offered in schools and colleges by cadet. Drill Cadets should be made to understand the purpose and intent of teaching driving, so that they are properly motivated and do not take it as \"exhaustion\". Emphasis will be placed on proper posture, marching, greetings and handshake. Inter- squad tournaments may be organized to create interest. 21

WEapon Training Once it comes to weapon training, it gains the eagerness and excitement of all. The same way, we were also curious to learn about arms and ammunitions. One has to be very attentive and cautious while undergoing weapon training. Each step has to be learnt and performed keenly. The use of shooting simulations can be done to enhance trg efforts where possible. 22

Adventure Training Recreational activities have been incorporated into NCC training with the aim of strengthening and strengthening the leadership features among cadets. These activities in the NCC can be broadly divided into the following: Landscape - Mountain climbing, rock climbing. Supported Water - Sailing, Crossing the River. Air based – Parasailing. 23

How to get into indian arms forces through ncc . The National Cadet Corps is one of the largest academy reserve forces of India. NCC is open to all academic institution going pupils to be enrolled in any of the nearest NCC unit. The NCC gives a vast array of openings to pupils which would either be unattainable to get outside or will fetch you a huge fortune. In addition to this, NCC 'C' certificate holder can directly go to the SSB interview, skipping the Common Entrance Exam (CEE). Then how you can join the Armed Forces using NCC 'C’ certificate : All the three services of the military have some voids reserved for the NCC fancy men/women, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun – 64 Officers Training Academy, Chennai – 100 Indian Navy and Indian Naval Academy – 6 per course 33

How to get into indian arms forces through ncc . Indian Navy and Indian Naval Academy – 6 per course Indian Air Force in Air Force Academy – 10 in all courses, including flying training courses You need to have a minimal 3 times of service in any of the three sets of NCC to be eligible to write 'C’ instrument quiz. In your ‘C’ certificate quiz, get a 'B' grade (though ‘B’ and ‘C’ grade don’t have any value, so try to get ‘A’ grade). To join the army, apply for NCC Special Entry Scheme through your directorate – ask your unit CO to foster your operation to the directorate which will also further it to the recruiting directorate . However, follow the procedure of SSB interview, If you get shortlisted. All the vacuities through this are to be filled by NCC cadets. To join the Navy and Air Force, there isn’t any special entry but the entries which are published from time to time have some voids reserved for NCC‘C’ certification holders. You just need to mention in your exercise that you have an NCC‘C’ certificate. 34

How to get into indian arms forces through ncc . Although the fancy men of Air Wing and Naval Wing have some vacuities in Air Force and Navy independently, they can apply for NCC Special Entry Scheme to join the army. But the fancy men who are from Army Wing aren't eligible for the voids in the Air Force or the Navy. So, it's stylish to either figure for Air Wing or Naval Wing over Army Wing depending on your first preference. In my case, I wish to join the Air Force, so I've decided for Air Wing over Naval and Army. Though Naval Wing’s NCC blanks are out of bound for me, I'm still eligible to join the Army through Special Entry Scheme. Although for Air Force, you need to apply within 12 months of leaving NCC (along with AFCAT or CDSE), you can apply for others as long as you have the age limit. 35

How to get into indian arms forces through ncc . You'll be awarded superfluous marks in your SSB as follows : Certificate Army, Navy, Air Force : ‘A' 5 add marks on overall marks scored in SSB 22 marks in SSB 3 marks in SSB ‘B’ 8 Same as below 44 marks in SSB 4 marks in SSB ‘C’ 10 same no written quiz 66 marks in SSB 5 marks in SSB At least 50-60 marks in scale bore for C certificate to be applicable. NCC certificate alone would not have any value. Age limits would be as per the announcement and date of inception of the training for a particular course. 36

Congratulations given to cards during the structure of other organizations . For OR/Sailors/Airmen - Bonus marks/weightage/preference given in the recruitment. Para-Military Forces: BSF/CISF/ITBP/Coastal Guard - Bonus marks/weightage/ preference given in the recruitment. Untold Story 1 Brigadier Mohammad Usman Born in Bibipur, Uttar Pradesh, this man of steel joined the Indian army in 1934. During the Indo-Pakistan war of 1947/48, Brigadier Usman repulsed a fierce attack on Naushera and Jhangar, two highly strategic locations in Jammu and Kashmir, and was named by his fellow soldiers ‘The Lion of Naushera.’ At the time of the Partition, he was made the offer of becoming the Chief of the Pakistani Army but he chose to stay in India. He left the Baloch regiment of Pakistan and was inducted into the Dogra regiment in India. After the Battle of Naushera, where the Pakistanis suffered heavy casualties at his hands, the same country that had courted him to become the chief of the army, now went ahead and placed prize money of Rs. 50,000 on his head. Brigadier Usman was not just a fierce soldier but also a compassionate man. He never got married and used to donate a large part of his salary to support poor children and pay for their education. This inspiring and exemplary officer of the Indian Army died on July 3, 1948, defending Jhangar. His last words were, “I am dying but let not the territory we were fighting for fall to the enemy.” He was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra posthumously for his great courage and leadership. ~Cdt. Untold Story 2 “I am not that irresponsible that I will die without fulfilling my duties for the country.” - Captain Anuj Kumar Nayyar Did he die fighting? It was 9.30 in the morning when the phone rang. It was from the brigade headquarters of Capt.Anuj Nayyar. A restless father, Prof. S.K.Nayyar hurriedly picked up the phone. After the initial pleasantries, the man on the other side fell silent. After about a minute of ominous silence, Prof.Nayyar asked, “ Did he die fighting?” “ Sir, not just the Indian Army but the entire nation is indebted to your son,” the man replied. “I want Anuj Dead or Alive.” “Anuj was the most mischievous boy in the school,” says his teacher as she recalls this one incident when she had warned Anuj. “I said to him, ‘Anuj, this is the last warning I’m giving you. I have received many complaints against you. Do not compel me to take stern action,' and Anuj, as always, replied with a poker face, 'Yes ma’m, sorry ma’m. I shall try to improve.’ But Anuj just continued with his mischievous ways.” Although he was a regular troublemaker, Anuj was a bright student who constantly performed well in academics and sports. He was as brilliant in his studies as he was in his antiques. Once, tired of his ceaseless mischief, his teacher has written on the noticeboard, “I WANT ANUJ DEAD OR ALIVE.” continuation... 41

It was then that the enemy fired on RPG from the 4th bunker, which fell directly on Captain Anuj killing him on the spot. Later that bunker was overpowered by the second company led by Captain Vikram Batra. The success of this operation, after a brief setback, was largely due to outstanding personal bravery an exemplary junior leadership of Captain Nayyar. He displayed indomitable resolve, grit and determination and motivated his command by personal example, acting beyond the call of duty. For conspicuous gallantry and supreme sacrifice, Captain Anuj Nayyar was honored with the Mahavir Chakra, posthumously. In one of the letters from the war zone, Anuj wrote to his parents, “ I am not that irresponsible that I will die without fulfilling my duties for the country. My army and my country has put so much faith in me it would be mistake to think of death at this moment.
