The Staff Like many people who devote their lives to exploring the paranormal, Chris had his first experience at an early age. He also discovered that he had a definite psychic/medium sense, and began traveling on his life journey doing remedial paranormal investigations at a mere 13 years of age. But this was just the start of Chris’s paranormal endeavors. Later Christ partnered up with his father in developing a magazine that would represent a truly bal- anced view of the subject. Haunted Times Magazine was born in 2004, and was considered the largest and best paranormal magazine in the world, as voted by the International Paranormal Acknowledge- ment Committee. Chris continues his paranormal work and appears on numerous television and radio shows. In my travels across the US and Europe, I have learned that paranormal evidence doesn’t, and cannot be concentrated to only one sci- ence. Everyone in the paranormal world has one goal--to share their story and present a piece of their evidence. If we learn to work together there are so many ways we can broaden our views on unexplained phe- nomena that may or may not be your priority interest in the paranormal field. Paranormal Investigator Magazine has a taste of it all. Paranormal experts from all walks of the “unknown” have gathered their information to offer you a smorgasbord of various topics from ghosts, UFO’s, to Cryto’s--and everything Debe Branning in between. Paranormal Investigator Magazine The Forgotten Mill Race Monster By Chris McDaniel Do you believe in monsters? Believe it or not, many people do. In fact, there have been numerous people who have reported such encounters to their local law enforcement agen- cy. Not being familiar with the identity of the beast, they have often referred to an unknown creature as a “monster”. During the 70’s, there seemed to be an outbreak of monster sightings. Stories of people encountering odd creatures flooded many newspapers nationwide. Some of these monster sightings lasted only a short time period. The eyewitness’ would describe a creature with unique features like no other. Then, for some unknown reason, the reports of the creature would abruptly come to an end, never to be seen again. A few well-known within the Crypto-field that fits this pattern is “The Dover Demon,” “The Enfield Monster,” “The Flatwoods Monster” and “The Loveland Frogman.” These are just some of the well-known reports. What about the ones that may have been lost or forgotten through time? Is it possible that there are reports of such monsters that few have ever heard? I know for a fact that the answer to this question is “yes.” They are out there…waiting to be rediscovered. This is one that fell through the cracks and has been long forgotten….at least until now. In the early fall of 1974, near a small community known as Columbus, Indiana, a rash of U.F.O. sightings were being reported. During the month of November, 1974, a strange event commenced within the small town of Columbus. It began with four frightened women making a report to the Columbus Police Department. —2—

Paranormal Investigator Magazine Touching the Other World By Janice Tremeear LMT [email protected] In paranormal investigating we record the odd occurrences at locations that have no explanation; creeping mists, voices calling our names, dancing lights coyly flirting just out of shot of the camera lens. In the mind of investigators these are signs of a human haunting, residual movie-like replays of a brief instance in the life of a person who’s passed or, even more exciting, the intelligent inter- action with a sentient spirit. But what if there’s more to the manifestation, what if we sometimes witness something other than what was once human? Due to the abundance of paranormal TV programs people are coming to accept the possibility of ghosts. While TV shows cannot be taken at full face value in the light of how true investigations are conducted, they have at least opened our minds to the possibility of interaction with spirits. Some encounters are with shadow figures, not deemed ghosts; they range from animals, to chil- dren to male shaped adults, and one in particular known as the “Hat Man” sports a wide- brimmed hat similar to the one in the Exorcist movie. Then there are the others, reports of human shaped creatures, some small and gnarled, others light and delicate. Many images show winged beings glowing in front of the camera, or the squatty, —da6rk—, lumbering men with pointed hats lurking along
Touching the Other Worldtree lines. Spindly limbed figures dart like feralcreatures around children and animals. Gnome-like beings are reported in British Columbia.Children draw pictures of what they believe tobe the “Tooth Fairy” upon waking at night. Aquick check of the Internet shows accounts ofencounters with what might be termed elemen-tals or Fairies by both adults and children. In all cultures, the Fey have been a generation-al part of mankind’s heritage. Native Americansbelieved in the “Little People”. Their versionsof the wee folk are highly protective of nature, and woe betides the person who defiles or de-stroys the land. Sightings of small, dark, red-eyed creatures are related to property in Mis-souri where Native Americans met for trade andnearby cliff paintings were recorded by Lewisand Clark before being destroyed to make wayfor the railroad. Non-believers, naysayers of ghost photos, claim matrixing, or pareidolia, (Word EnglishDictionary-the imagined perception of a patternor meaning where it does not actually exist, as in considering the moon to have human fea- tures) for seeing the simulacrum thought to be of the Fey Granted, images may be interpreted in our mind to resemble objects familiar to us, but the tales and legends of otherworldly beings existed long before the advent of the modern camera. Fairy tales live with their own pulsating life in many cultures. Meetings with the Other Crowd, “Shee-folk,” (“people of the hollow hills” - literal meaning of Irish word “sidhe.”), “denizens of Fa- erie”, Germanic –“ Hidden Folk” (“Hulder Folk” in Swedish, meaning Hidden People), Tuatha Dé Danann, Shining Ones, all are encounters with a particular being who are to a degree “hid- den.” Cultural anthropologist for Durham Universi- ty, Dr. Jamie Tehrani, studied 35 versions of Lit- tle Red Riding Hood from around the world. “The oldest tale we found was an Aesopic fable that dated from about the sixth century BC, so the last common ancestor of all these tales certainly predated this. We are looking at a very ancient tale that evolved over time.”—7—
Paranormal Investigator Magazine Fairy originates from the Old French word fa- erie (supernatural being). They exist in Celtic tradition, English, German, Slavic, Scottish and Persian folklores. Guardian spirits; Penates, Lares and genii, can be found in Roman religion and mythology. Norse versions encompass a wide variety of elves and the dísir of the Teu- tonic traditions. Valkyries might be classified as fairies as well as the Nymphs in Greek myths. Humans caught up in fairy rings are never the same, dancing their life away, perhaps going to the OtherWorld. King Arthur’s half-sister, Morgan le Fay; sorcer- ess and healer bore the nickname Fay, which meant “Fairy”. Add the Lady of the Lake and Arthur’s wife, Guinevere, or Gwenhwyfar in the Welsh tradition, who appeared to be a fairy, as well as the sovereignty goddess. Knights could be born of fairies take female fairies as their lovers. Merlin was part mortal/part fey. England abounds with tales of fairy witches, beautiful women who mate with men and in the midst of the lovemaking turn into hideous, hairy crea- tures. Unfortunately, Christian authors often demot- ed the Fey into servants of Satan, thus mark- ing them as Demons. It may be possible, when asked if a paranormal team has encountered ‘demons’ that the entity is neither demon nor human but a different being altogether. Edward Halley’s (1697--1731) early 18th centu- ry magio-historian, unpublished papers in Latin are an account of fairies perceived by the An- cient Romans, as a boy enters the Otherworld via a painting. Halley quotes; ‘Fairy can only be seen by a child; adult is explicitly unable to do so. Common motif in European lore.’ And ‹Ancient Roman Lares display as much fond- ness for ceremony as more recent English fair- ies. The single event described here is not con- clusive; however the parallel to the ceremonies of English fairies is apparent in its similarity to human celebrations which are carried out by the fairies on a grander, more elaborate scale.’ As paranormal investigating is becoming more mainstream witnesses are coming forth with —8—

Paranormal Investigator Magazine The Road to Paranormal Truth is Skepticism By Dave Mace Since the beginning of time, humans have had paranormal experi- ences. We know because of anthropological research and written his- torical accounts. Add to that modern day experiences shared by reli- able people and the scientific research done by early scientist like J.B. Rhine and his wife Eloise, founders of the Rhine Research Center. Despite remarkable research and millions of personal experiences, scientists are still very reluctant to give any credence to paranormal phenomena. One of many challenges is the broad use of the term paranormal. It seems that we use the paranormal classification for everything from ghosts, cryptids, UFOs, and angels. In reality, there are explanations for everything whether it’s natural, psychological, or yet undiscovered. For the sake of continuity, we’ll limit this topic to ghosts. We still don’t know if all ghosts manifest the same way or are even the remnants of a human essence. There is scientific research that indicates it is not the case. For example, research of the poltergeist phenomena indicates that moving and flying objects are the result of a human agent, often a pre-adolescent female and not a human spirit or demon. Through telekinetic mechanisms still not understood, these human agents un- knowingly cause havoc through an unseen force. Other studies show that people can intentionally create ghost like forms. This was illustrated and later reported in the 1976 book Con- juring Up Philip: An Adventure in Psychokinesis. Dr. A. R. G. Owens, a noted researcher was able to recreate earlier studies where a group experienced amazing paranormal activities upon creating a free acting human thought form. — 12 —

Paranormal Investigator Magazine By Payten Autumn Lestat For hundreds if not thousands of years, the ‘Grey aliens’ have been sighted. Even the ancient Egyptians had pictures of aliens and UFO’s in their pyramids and other structures. With them being spotted all over the world, the main questions that everyone wants to know is, who are they, and where do they come from? No one can verify where these beings come from, and although many abductees claim they are told by them, nothing as yet has been confirmed. What we do know however is that there is an average of 10,000 cases per year in the USA alone of alien abductions by these beings. Each case carries similar tales of what these aliens look like: Large oval heads, large black oval eyes, and slim build with grey colouring; with no gender apparent, they seem to be sexless beings. The abductions themselves are just as mystifying. Let’s take a look at a few, a lot of reports start with seeing a bright light outside in the street either when a person is alone or in a group or even one that seems to invade the person’s home, then when the lights go, it seems many hours have been lost that the person cannot account for. Paranormal Investigator Magazine ~Paranormal Activity~ After sitting empty for five years, Jim and Nancy Oliver purchased the crumbling old school with hopes of restoring the place and making it their home. It soon became obvious that they were not in the building alone. Over the decades, students and employees had reported hearing voic- es, slamming doors, and see strange figures in the hallways and stairwells. The Oliver’s put little stock in such stories until one day when Nancy became unsteady on some stairs and felt a solid hand on her shoulder that helped her catch her balance. She turned to thank her husband for help only to find there was no one there! Since that time, the Oliver’s, and others have had many other weird experiences. While walking in the gymnasium one day, Nancy was startled by the sight of the apparition of a young boy standing near the top of the steps. The school was later visited out of the blue by two women; one of which claimed to be psychic. After going through the school, the woman spoke of several spirits of children that were still hanging around. She had recorded the first EVP’s captured in the school, and can be heard on the Farrar school website (www.hauntingatfarrar.com). There are only a couple of confirmed deaths at the school, one of which was a boy. It is uncertain as to how they died. Later the school became the subject of vicious rumors of sexual abuses said to have been performed by a former custodian and principal. Their names will be not be given due to family members that are still alive in the area. Many investigators pick up on this energy and feel scared or anxious feelings while investigating certain rooms. Investigators have also been at- tacked in the school by being choked, thrown to the grown, pushed, slapped, punched, and other stuff alike. There seems to be good and nice spirits in the old school but also ones that don’t want others in there, and will do what they can to get them out of there. Visitors have told many strange stories about the school, includ- ing disembodied voices, phantom footsteps, knocking, tapping, ringing sounds, cries, yells, laughter, and even sightings of full-blown appa- ritions! Will you be adding your own accounts and evidence to the Haunting at the Farrar Schoolhouse? Do you have the nerve to spend the night at this haunted location? Lately visitors have encountered a “moody” spir- it which does not like people on the third floor; this spirit is a different one than the principal that is known to roam to the school protecting the children who are also there, but when you en- counter this spirit, the whole mood and feeling in the school changes. Paranormal Investigator Magazine First True Paranormal Experience By Jessie Brodie I will never forget my first true paranormal experience. I was only 15 years old at the time, though it took ten years just to speak of it again without tears coming to my eyes. Real, genuine terror overwhelmed me that night, leaving me deeply wounded and spiritually shaken. It wasn’t until later in life, after much study into the world of spirituality and the paranormal, that I came to understand the intricacies of energetic manipulation and the power of spiritual energy. Although I once believed that dark entities attempted to take the light away from me, I now see it as a lesson that brought me closer to a Divine presence so real and powerful, it can no longer go unacknowledged. Growing up in Colorado with two sisters and a bohemian-style mother, it wasn’t usual for us to visit old cemeteries, historical sites, Native American burial grounds and ghost towns. We were encour- aged to embrace spirituality, which was exactly what I did. As a child, I was deeply in tune with spiritual energy, and so it was no wonder that I always felt watched by something unseen. It felt normal to me, although unsettling, to know who the spirits were and where they were standing in the — 26 —

Paranormal Investigator Magazine The Searching Spirits of Holy Trinity Church in York Photo: Ally Law The Headless Earl by Ally Law Holy Trinity Church in York dates back to 11th Century, but the present building is from 15th. The headless figure of Thomas Percy, 7th Earl of Northumberland has been seen on many occa- sions wandering from grave to grave. Thomas was a devout Catholic and was highly opposed to the reign of Elizabeth the first. He attempted to over throw her on many occasions. After two years he was caught in Scotland and brought to York for trial. He was found guilty of treason and sentenced to death. A scaffold was built on the Shambles and he was beheaded on August 22, 1572. His body was buried in the nearby grave yard at St Crux’s Church. But, his head was mounted on a spike at Micklegate Bar as a warning to other would be traitors. It remained there for several years until a sympathiser removed it and buried it in Holy Trinity Church Yard. A local woman was eating lunch when she noticed a man with his head bowed dressed in Elizabethan clothing sitting next to her. Being from York seeing people dressed in period costumes is a run of the mill occurrence. When she turned, the man had vanished. Looking in the other direction she saw a headless figure hurrying towards her. To her horror she realized that it was the same man who had been sitting beside her just moments earlier. — 30 —
The Headless EarlDuring the spring and summer of 1349 thePlague swept through the city of York. The es-timated loss of life was approximately 10,000 ofits 15,000 residents. Many people when enteringthe square has feelings of nausea, light- head-edness, and feelings of dread. There also havebeen many sightings of a female phantom layingin the gutter, and wandering around the square. The Ripper’s final documented victim was MaryKelly; she was murdered on the 9th of November1888, in Room 13, Millers Court. Unlike allthe other victims, Mary was killed inside, unfortunately this gave Jack more time with herand she was horrifically mutilated to the pointthat her corpse did not resemble a human form. She was seen on many occasions the night ofher death with customers and even in the localpub. But after 3:00 in the morning she wasnot seen, or her singing heard from any of herneighbors. She was discovered by the rent manThomas Bowyer about 10:45 am, he knockedloudly several times on her door, thinking shewas hiding from him, in order to skip paying herrent, he noticed a broken pane of glass in the window. He pulled back the curtain to his shock; he discovered the remains of Mary left on her bed. He left to get his boss Mr McCarthy, who immediately informed the police of their discov- ery. Not long after the murder, residents often re- marked that they had still heard Mary’s singing coming from Room 13 and could see her face in the window. Unfortunately Millers Court was de- molished in 1928 to make way for Warehouses and now a car park, due to the industrialization of London, but her presence is still felt in the area on many of the Jack the Ripper tours that still run to this day. More interestingly the police used a psychic for the actual man hunt for Jack the Ripper, but never made the information public until 1895. A well-known psychic of the era, Robert Lees claimed to have visions of the killings before they occurred, and even described details that only the killer or the police would know. Initially he was met with scepticism by the po-— 35 —

He described a vision of a woman and a man be- ing near a gin-palace and gave the name of the court. He could see the name of the court and a clock on the wall, which gave the time of 12:40 am. He described a drunken woman who stood in a poorly lit corner of the court. A man enters the court and he then places his hand over the woman’s mouth, produces a knife, which he uses to slit her throat. He then proceeds to muti- late her body, wiping the knife on her apron and then leaving into the night. Amazingly, the following night the Ripper struck in the place Lees described and in the same manner. This vision so disturbing, Lees felt he needed to leave London and went to France to convalesce. In the meantime the Ripper was still at large and murdering women in London. Lees returned to London, and not long after his return, he had another vision. After his last vi- sion the police were keen to hear what he had to say. Lees saw that one of the Ripper’s vic- tims had her ears cut off, one clean off and the other hanging by a thread. Unbeknown to Lees and the public, the police had received a letter on the 27th of September 1888 purporting to be from the Ripper himself, this was the ‹ the infamous Dear Boss letter›. To prove himself as Jack the Ripper he stated in the letter that he would prove to them it was him ‘by clipping the ears off his next victim’, which happened to be Catherine Eddowes. Appar- ently only high-ranking police officers and only a few members of staff at the Central News Agency knew of the existence of the letter. — 36 —

Paranormal Investigator Magazine Are Your Angels Or Guides Talking To You Jen Devillier As a spiritual teacher, I am asked all the time how to communicate with your Angels. Some want to know how to speak with their “Guardian Angels”, and some wish to converse with a specific Angel. Whatever the case may be; Angel communication is becoming more and more widely recognized as well as practiced. What people used to think was impossible has now become more acceptable as VERY much possible. Since I myself am a Psychic Medium who practices daily Angel communication I can honestly tell you that the things your Angels have to tell you is mind-blowing. It’s actually VERY easy to talk to them. It is difficult however, to receive their answers. Why is this? Well, with today’s stress, it is much more difficult to remain calm. It is so very important to find a nice quiet place to seclude yourself. You must meditate in some way or you will not achieve hearing your Angels, nor will you be able to hear your Spirit Guides. Spirit Guides are different from your Angels. Your guides once were human beings just like you, which are now on the ‘other side’ or what some call “Heaven”. They chose and made a deal with you before you came into this life that they would be there to guide you while staying on the ‘other side’. Some will only be with you a short time until you achieve whatever it is you are supposed to learn while some stay with you your whole life. With practice you can hear them speaking to you. They almost always communicate with you telepathically as do your Angels. On occasion have you ever noticed ‘hearing’ a telepathic thought to tell you to do something or not do something and yet felt that it wasn’t your thought? That is most likely your Guides or Angels. Both Angels and Guides are here to help you, but they cannot make decisions for you. So no mat- ter how much advice you get from them, you are still the one in charge as you are the one here learning. I advise you to keep this in mind once you figure out how to receive their answers. They will always give great advice, but we are human and inevitably we will either agree at the time or — 38 —
Are Your Angels Or Guides Talking To Youwe will brush it off and do what we will.To begin active communication with either, youmust call upon them and tell them you wish toseek their help. Angels are in a position to wherethey cannot aid you unless you ask them first. They realize we are human and that we needto REALLY want the help. They are not allowedto help those who do not want the help. That isnot to say that you cannot ask them to see toa loved one. It must be a reasonable requestsuch as protection or healing light. This does notmean they can or will heal a terminally ill per-son because as much as the human mind doesnot want to comprehend death, we chose our“exit points” before we come into this life. As Imentioned, we all have free will, and the Angelsabide by this.Spirit Guides will sometimes yell at you to getyour attention and will try to give you the best ofadvice, but they are human souls so they are notalways 100% accurate either. They are alwayswith you and will talk to you whether you askthem or not. It’s better if you do ask. Then theywill know they have full permission to give youadvice at will and that you are accepting of it.Now the big question is: “How can I hear them song comes on the radio right after they askedspeaking to me”? Well they both communicate a question and find that it just answered them.in different ways depending on your recep-tive-ability. In other words, some people HEAR Another important thing to keep in mind is thatthe voices loud and clear while others may see you should never actively LOOK for their an-telepathic thoughts like a picture and some keep swers. They chose how they feel is best to getseeing repeated signs (billboards, street signs, your attention. Also you get answers throughnames, etc.). Some people will notice a certain the most unexpected ways. To put this all into practice you just go ahead and ask them out loud as if you would with any oth- er living being. You may first ask them “What is your name?” or “Please help me with this”. The possibilities are endless. Ask your questions and then just wait on your answer. It may be in- stant or it may take a few days or even a week. You will most definitely receive the answer one way or another. It takes a lot of patience and persistence. Practice as much as you need to and in time you will understand their answers quickly and easily. — 39 —
Paranormal Investigator Magazine As a beginner you may even ask one of the An- gels to come to you in a dream to aid you with whatever you are asking about. Also ask the An- gel to help you remember the dream when you wake or remember the feeling as that could be an important answer in itself. Once you begin communicating with your An- gels or Guides, you will find that your world to- tally changes and you will begin to appreciate them more than you ever thought you would. The most important ingredient to this all is to tell them “THANK YOU” every single day for help- ing you with your life. The more gratitude you give them and the more gratitude you feel in your heart, the more you will get brought to you. It’s an eye-opening and wonderful experience. There are many great books out there to help you if you find you are not getting answers, but I believe that with the little bit of simple infor- mation I have supplied you with, you are armed and ready to start receiving. Remember to RE- LAX as this is a very crucial tool. The more re- laxed you are, the more receptive you become. Your first answer will astound you, and amaze you! Good luck on your journey! To you-all, I send much Love and Light from your Angels and Guides. — 40 —

I wanted to write this article to share a little on equipment, some that you have seen used in shows, some that you prob- ably have and don’t even know you can use. First let’s talk a little about using a compass, it’s a very simple concept, some people believe that in the paranormal field spirits, demons and cryp- tids can affect the magnetic field in an area, so using a compass can detect these changes if even for a short time. Now there are expensive items you can buy to detect these changes, but they are really no more effective than using a compass. I have several that I put in with our equipment and I will carry them around with me and lay them out when I am doing an investi- gation, using them right along-side of the other things that I use. Now many of us if not all have seen a K-ll in action on the TV shows, one of the things I like to talk about in my lectures is using the K-II and I also like to demonstrate how ineffective they can be, and even how they can be manipulated. — 42 —
