BRAINFEED Field Trip to Golconda Fort Abby Varghese Iducalla G8 INS Shardul All of my classmates were excited when we heard that we had an upcoming trip planned by our school to the renowned Golconda fort. The spirits of Golconda started even before we reached there. There were huge structures and gateways that were part of the now ruined city. The fort is enormous and is made out of ancient bricks. There are huge staircases leading to the top of the fort. The gigantic yet detailed structure displays wonderful architecture. Ancient carvings, drawings and intricate inscriptions are present on the walls. There is a wonderfully designed acoustic system that ensures safety in the fort and this was probably the reason why the Golconda was impregnable during its thriving days. The fort clearly excels in terms of safety and magnificence and it was made well thought of for residential and administrative purposes. Golconda fort was truly a delight to see. 50
BRAINFEED Chowmahalla Palace Burma Bhavishya Rekha G8 INS Shivalik The Chowmahalla Palace is one of the rich heritages of Hyderabad. It was the official place of the Nizams. This palace contains a durbar hall, gardens, fountains and courtyards. The palace is unique and famous for its architecture. It manifests the Neo-classical, European, Persian, Rajasthani and the Indo-Saracenic architectural style. This palace has been awarded two INTACH heritage awards and one Asia-Pacific heritage award. The durbar hall in the palace is known as the heart of the palace. It is a very large hall enhanced with Persian elements and engrossing chandeliers from Belgium. In this hall, the Nizams had their durbar and most of the ceremonies. One of the Nizams of Hyderabad, Salabut Jung, initiated its construction in 1750 and came up with the durbar hall around the year 1880. The clock tower in the palace known as the Khilawat clock has been ticking till date. There is also a stylish outdoor corridor with a number of rooms lined up. The palace has a large dining room with antique dining tables which can seat a huge number of people. In this palace, there is another hall of heritage, art and craft. This hall has many paintings, pictures of rulers, Pingani ceramic crockery and a lot more items from different countries like Belgium, Japan, China etc. Most of the tiles, flooring patterns and walls in the palace are carved and enhanced with precise floral patterns. In the palace, there is a huge collection of swords, shields, axes, lancers, body armours, revolvers, pistols, rifles, cannons and a lot more weapons. The swords are diamond-studded and most of the weapons are from Deccan and Mughal dynasties. The palace also has a separate Quran hall, which shelves multiple prints of the holy book. Chowmahalla Palace swanks few good-looking and vintage cars that were used by the Nizams. The Rolls Royce is the most famous among them all! Other cars such as that of Ford, Fiat, Wolseley & Sedan are also unique and special. Overall, this monument is one of the most unique, magnificent and splendid tourist attractions. 51
BRAINFEED Independence Day Amay Bhattacharya G8 INS Shardul Independence day, the day all of us wait for and cherish. Our school takes the initiative to promote patriotism in all of us. We acorns are able to respect our country and honour the sacrifices made by all those countless heroes who strived to protect and release India from the slavery of the British. This year on 15th August, once again, grand celebrations started in our school. Despite being kept only between the teachers and students with no involvement of parents due to the outbreak of flu, we were extremely excited and enthusiastic. The day began with all of us gathering in the garden to celebrate. We sat down, keen to watch the celebrations unfold! First, we heard the inspiring speeches from our Director sir, Principal ma’am and other school leaders. Our proud NCC cadets marched with the school flag. Then, the moment came when the Indian Flag was unfurled. Flowers dropped down and the national anthem was played. The trees seemed to dance as we sang our national anthem with pride and zeal. After that, we as a school sang many songs and through that expressed the fire in our hearts that fuelled the very soul of the country. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience. The memory of celebrating our country with 3000 warriors of our school still sends chills down my spine. This taught me one thing- “ Duty, honour, country.” Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be”. 52
BRAINFEED Gorgeous Golconda Abhiram Yalla G8 INS Shivalik One of the monuments that we explored was the Golconda Fort. The Golconda Fort was originally built by Musunuri Kapayya in 1351 and later developed by Quli Qutub Shah in 1518. It is located in the western part of Hyderabad City. The fort was originally known as Mankal and was famous for being a trade centre for large diamonds. Some of the diamonds excavated from the mines of Golconda are the Koh-i-Noor Diamond, the Hope Diamond, and the Daria-i-Noor Diamond. It was also known for being impregnable since it took the Mughal Army almost 8 months to capture the fortress. If it weren’t for the gatekeeper who was bribed to open the doors at night, the fort would still be standing today. The fort is surrounded by a 10-kilometer-long wall equipped with artillery and drawbridges for protection. One of the unique features of the Golconda Fort is the ingenious alarm system. The intricate geometrical patterns on the ceilings of the structures and the perfectly shaped arches, enable people from the highest point of the fort, to hear faint claps and sounds from the lowest part of the fort. If an invasion occurred, just with a series of claps, the guards at the bottom of the fort can alert the Sultans in the higher parts of the fort to evacuate. To conclude, the Golconda Fort is truly a mesmerizing and an amazing example of Indian architecture. 53
BRAINFEED Heritage of Hyderabad Medha Shanmukhi G8 INS Arihant Heritage is what we inherit from our past and Hyderabad is a city of varied cultures and traditions. I visited 4 heritage sites in Hyderabad while I was learning the History of Hyderabad. The Chowmahalla Palace (Four Court), Golconda Fort (High and Mighty), Charminar (The Signature) and Purani Haveli (Home Style). By excitedly visiting these places, I could know more about the cultural heritage of Hyderabad. These heritage sites are unique from each other. The Chowmahalla Palace is unique for its style and elegance. So does the Golconda Fort, it is one of the most magnificent fortresses in Hyderabad. Also, the Charminar was built to acknowledge the eradication of plague, and the Purani Haveli, has a unique feature of its world’s longest wardrobe. I saw each and every part of the site and was deeply delighted. They are a work of very profound skill and art. They were extremely mesmerizing trips and importantly, they were educational. 54

FRENCH Mon parcours d'apprentissage en français La communication est un élément essentiel de toute culture du monde. La langue française est l'une des langues les plus importantes dans le monde. Le français n'est pas seulement parlé en France, mais c'est une langue officielle dans 29 pays du monde. Mon parcours d'apprentissage du français a commencé en 5e année. J'ai rencontré beaucoup de difficultés car c'était une nouvelle langue à comprendre et à apprendre. Je ne pouvais pas comprendre la langue, ni parler ni lire ni écrire. J'ai fait des fautes verbales et grammaticales mais mon professeur m'a beaucoup aidé à m'améliorer. Apprendre la langue étape par étape et regarder des vidéos m'a aidé à m'améliorer. Je me suis lentement amélioré avec l'aide de mon professeur, de vidéos et de livres de ressources. J'ai commencé à parler, lire et écrire en français. A cause de la pandémie j'étais un peu dévié mais je me disais de me concentrer. Cette année, avec l'aide de madame Dhivia, j'ai très bien compris le français. J'ai pu faire face à tout le programme qui a été enseigné pendant la pandémie. Je peux voir l'amélioration continue en moi- même. Mes connaissances ont augmenté. Maintenant, je suis très bon en français. Je sais lire, écrire et parler en français. Je prévois de passer quelques examens de français. Ceci est mon parcours d'apprentissage global en français. Translation Communication is an essential element of any culture of the world. The French language is one of the most important languages around the world. French is not only spoken in France but it is an official language around 29 countries of the world. My journey of learning French started in 5th grade. I faced a lot of difficulties as it was a new language for me to understand and learn. I couldn’t understand the language neither speak, read nor write. I made verbal and grammatical mistakes but my teacher helped me a lot to improve upon that. Learning the language step by step and watching videos helped me to get better at it. I slowly improved upon myselves with the help of my teacher, videos and resource books as well. I started to speak, read and write in French. Due to the pandemic I was a bit deviated but I was telling myself to focus. This year with the help of Dhivia ma’am I understood French really well. I was able to cope up with all the syllabus that was taught in the pandemic. I can see the continuous improvement in myself. My knowledge has increased. Now I am very good at French. I can read, write and speak French. I am planning to write a few exams for French. This is my overall learning journey in French.
