They are without positive role models within most churches and usually feel that there is no one to whom they can turn for advise. Their churches do nothing to facilitate their dating, nor to encourage them to bring their friends there. The numberof congregations where significant numbers of them are aware of one another or where they feel sufficiently comfortable to be able to bring their partners with them to church is still very limited. c, Viewpoint 1 s/ Qsc/ Meet my friend Gary! He is a real friend. Whatever you want him to do for you, he does willingly. He also plays the or piano and organ beautifully. Sometimes, he even gives a solo. The Lord sure gave him musical talent, and he has ,,Ll( made use of it. Around ourneighborhood they know him for his playing, so many people ask him to play for them. My 87-year-old cousin andl satdown at atable. (She couldnotstandforvery long.) When everyone else sat down, no one sat at our table. Some even took chairs away from our table-when there were extra chats against the wall-so they could be with their friends. No one came to our table. My cousin asked me, \"Are we lepers?\" But then Gary came and asked, \"May I sit with you?\" He was the only one who wanted to be with us. Gary also helped me in Pathfinders and Vacation Bible School. The kids loved him. Even those who are grown up now still come to him for help. His cousin's girlfriend wanted to come to church, so Gary picked her up, and took her home after the services. One of the young girls attempted suicide, and only Gary stayed by her and tried to help her. Who came and visited us when we were new in the area? That's right, Gary! When the bookmobile comes from the Conference office, Gary will get the books you want so you do not have to drive 50 miles at night. If you need something from the health food store, which is located 90 miles away, Gary gets it willingly because he works there, he tells you! Don't you think everyone would love a Christian like that? But no, Gary has one fault. He is gay. He does not practice it, but he was born that way. His grandfather tried to beat it out of him, and for years Gary felt so sinful and deprived of God's love. But then he read his Bible and it showed him that no matter how sinful you are, only God's grace can help you. Then, the burden was lifted from him. He knew God forgives him from this sin and he vowed never to indulge in it. How are we with our sins? Take temper, for example. Is that only a small sin, and Gary's is a big one? How many times do we fall into temptation again and again? What struggles Gary has born with this affliction. But is he not the only one who can be sympathetic with the other gays? Can the Lord use him to that group of people? Gary has Eied. I know a few of his friends, but they have so many problems that they cannot cope with them and follow Christ. Their craving is too strong, so they leave Gary and the only thing he can do is pray for them. The church found out Gary was gay, so they did not want
