These facilities are licensed by the State of Mich-igan and can have as few as one resident in a home or up to 20 residents. Ifthey have over 20 residents, they are licensed as a “Home for the Aged.” Mosthomes are somewhere in between.What services are provided in Licensed Adult Foster Care/AssistedLiving Homes?Services provided can vary by home and typically include, but are not limitedto:• 24-hour personalized care• Meal preparation-special diet included• Assistance with personal care• Assistance with daily living, such as laundry and housekeeping• Health monitoring and medication administration• Transportation services• Social and recreational activitiesWhat is the difference between Adult Foster Care Homes / AssistedLiving, Independent Senior Living / Retirement Homes, Skilled NursingHomes?The difference is the level of care that is provided. The general rule followsthe natural progression of aging, disease or disability. In an unlicensed setting,Independent Senior Living / Retirement Homes provide rooms or apartmentswith extra services such as meals, laundry, housekeeping, for purchase asneeded. Adult Foster Care / Licensed Assisted Living Homes are licensed facil-ities that provide the next level of care, adding supervision, health and medi-cation monitoring within a home like setting. Skilled Nursing Homes provideall levels of skilled medical care.How much does it cost and will insurance cover any of it?Like most things, the cost will vary depending on the amount and nature ofthe care provided. In an Adult Foster Care Home, some individuals may qualifyfor assistance with paying for all or part of it.
