Most people will look at a club and see a group of people, people that meet once a month to discuss business within the industry, make arrangements for upcoming shows and provide year end awards. While this may be the way ofsome, the Southwest Washington Paint Horse Club is so much more, we are afamily. We lift each other up, push each other to do better, to be better; we arethere for each other during the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. In and out of the show ring, we are a family. This yearbook is a glimpse of our little family, and it is dedicated to each and every member of the Southwest Washington Paint Horse Club. We hope you enjoy looking back over our year and sharing memories as much as we have! -Ashley Walsh- Newsletter Editor & Club Historian 2015 APHA Club of Distinction
CommitmentEvery year our dedicated members commit to spreading the word about the American Paint Horse. Joining the APHA Board of Directors is one of the many ways we accomplish this. Kathy Tuttle-King

Although we work hard all year to put on shows, events and meetings, we also have to have some fun! Our club proves that you can enjoy your American Paint Horse and local clubs no matter what discipline you enjoy!

(Yah Yah Yah!)The SWWPHC strongly believes that no single club or association can prosper alone. Working as a team with fellow clubs we push toward setting a positive example for other clubs, youth and new members. Think of us as… Members without borders!
We’re Number One!Several of our members sit on the Zone One board of directors, helping to make our Zone-O-Rama the largest show on the west coast! At the 2015 Zone-O-Rama, many of our members helped support Zone One bycompeting on their paint horses. We also volunteered our free time to help keep the show running smoothly! We have many members that not only make the trek north every year to the WSPHC Star Spangled Classic, but are also active members and sit on the Board of Directors .
Our members work very hard to support our neighbors to the south. Good portionsof our membership are also members of the OPHC, and volunteered many hours at the 2016 Painted in Sterling Spring Classic. We continue to work with the OPHC to make bigger and better shows available in the Northwest. We continue to work with the CCEHC to bring improvements to the local area arenas and horse facilities. We hope that in the future we are able to turn the Dr. Jack Giesy horse arena backinto a top-of-the-line facility that everyone from the SWWPHC to local 4H clubs
Ride for the Cure is a long standing staple in the Northwest. Over the years theOPHC has donated almost $100,000/00 to the Linn Benton Cancer Resource Center. In 2015 members of the SWWPHC not only attended the show as exhibitors, wealso made donations to the silent auctions, volunteered time and helped sponsor the show. Though we are all members of the American Paint Horse Association, we understand the value in fellow breed associations that help promote responsiblebreeding, friendly competition, etc. and we work hard to lend a hand when we can. In 2015 SWWPHC co-hosted a spot-tacular all-breed show with the local State POA club.
Several of our members are long standing members of the NWCC Board ofDirectors. We work throughout the year to promote the NWCC, host 50/50 raffles to raise funds, attend and help setup the year end awards banquette. Each year we make a point to attend the North West Stallion Service auction and futurities to show our babies, buy breeding’s and support the NWSSA. We also make donations to help raise money for the group.
The future of the American Paint Horse lies in the hands of our youth. We have avery active Youth Talent Committee, part of this is strongly supporting the local 4Hclubs. We co-host shows, sponsor, donate, provide Hi Point Paint horse awards and volunteer man hours to see the legacy continue! No matter what weather the Northwest throws at them, our members volunteer long hours to monitor crowds, keep patrons safe and bring awareness to Clark County and the APHA.
Community and youth outreach are two of the most important things to theSWWPHC. We gladly spend many hours on these projects, helping promote the paint horse, providing opportunities to pass along the knowledge we have accumulated over the years. We have many clinics and events planning for summer 2016, here’s what we have been up to so far.
SWWPHC Grooming Clinic Our very own Ashley Walsh and Brandon Severin hosted a spectacular grooming clinic, followed by a delicious BBQ at the start of the show season. We put on this easy to follow clinic featuring everything from the most basic – how to properly bathe a horse for optimum coat condition; to the final touches before you walk in the show ring. We had many youth and novice attendees, but also some show ringveterans. We tried to make the clinic as user friendly as possible, while still sharing our little “tips and tricks”. We had a fabulous turnout and featured our very ownAmerican Paint Horses, showing how a horse can go from pasture pet to show ring ready!

2015 All-Breed Colorpalooza Over the summer SWWPHC reached out to help host an all-breed Colorpaloozashow with the local POA club. The show had a fabulous turnout with many youthand amateurs in attendance. We look forward to hosting open shows in the future as this is a great way to meet new members and spot new talent for our youth committee. Thanks to a very generous sponsorship from Kathys Show Equipment, the SWWPHC was able to award one lucky all-arounder an absolutely stunning Kathys show halter.Megan Stucky and her gorgeous Morgan mare, Millenniums Midnight Lady or Lady aswe all fondly know her, entered over 25 classes to take home the coveted Hi Point All- Around award

Clark County Saddle Club Ride to Rebuild Show The Clark County Saddle Club is a long standing staple in the northwest. Folks comefrom all around to attend the annual 4th of July rodeo or simply practice indoors during our wet winter months. Unfortunately due to development and the rapid growth of notonly membership, but the surrounding area, we have outgrown our current location. In June of 2016 the CCSC is hosting a “Ride to Rebuild” show in order to fund building a much bigger and better Saddle Club. SWWPHC has generously sponsored a “Hi Point Paint Horse” award to the highest scoring registered paint horse for the weekend.
Canby Tack Sale The Canby Tack Sale is a long standing tradition in the Northwest, people travel from states away (even all the way from Canada!) twice a year to attend. It turns into areunion for many people, and a place to meet new friends. SWWPC continues to support APHA and the area 4H clubs by setting up a booth, handing out APHA flyers, information,, stickers and our giant prize wheel!
Miss Vancouver RodeoWhat’s better than a rodeo queen? A rodeo queen with a passion for paint horses. While it seems that traditionally queens ride American Quarter Horses, this young lady has always been the type to set a trend. Our very own Cheyenne Ward was voted the 2016 Miss Vancouver Rodeo aboard her 2006 APHA mare, Diamond Studdeddreams.Cheyenne is an avid paint horse enthusiast, in fact, all three of her horses are registered American Paint Horses! The Southwest Washington Paint Horse Club proudly sponsors Cheyenne and “Jayde” during their 2016 reign. Our members also spend many hours volunteering to help her prepare for parades, rodeos and other public appearances. Miss Ward sets a superbexample for young ladies and helps promote the American Paint Horse by showing their versatility, ability and usefulness in and out of the arena!

Miss Vancouver RodeoCheyenne started her year out fabulously, aboard her 2012 APHA gelding, Mr DominateClue. Cheyenne purchased Bentley as a long yearling, training him from the ground up, competing in nearly every event, from Halter to Hunter Under Saddle to gaming. Cheyenne knew when she took her crown that Bentley would be her go-to Queen horse. She swung a leg over her sopping wet saddle as the rain poured down at the annual Veterans day parade. With planes flying overhead, flags waving and hundreds of flapping ponchos, at a mere 3 years old, Bentley stepped out like an old pro. Unfortunately only a few months later after extensive testing, it was found the Bentleywas suffering from a rare form of Equine Wobblers Syndrome. Bentley was retired and is living out his remaining days being a sassy pasture pet .
The Future of RodeoOur youth members are very important to the SWWPHC. We are blessed to have a very talented young lady by the name of Lindsay as a member of our club. Lindsay and herpaint gelding “Scout” set a fantastic example for young men and women interested in the sport of rodeo and the American Paint Horse
Youth Talent Committee Within the SWWPHC, several of our members have created the Youth TalentCommittee. This group attends local all-breed shows to scout young men and women who show outstanding sportsmanship and are interested in showing at APHA breed levelshows. We invite these youth to our meetings to help cultivate their love of the AmericanPaint Horse and showing. With the support of all SWWPHC members, we hope to grow the number of youth showing, while offering a strong family-like support system.
vCharity is something very near and dear to SWWPHC. We understand that we areblessed with many opportunities. We get to spend our lives breeding, training and showing horses!Whenever we can, our members donate, volunteer and help raise money for worthy charities.
Kayla’s Christmas Kayla’s Christmas delivers Christmas trees, stands, decorations, lights, toys and food boxes for families who might not otherwise be able to have a Christmas. Founded by DJ Glenn 6 years ago it has grown from 1 tree to almost 50 trees on delivery day. Kayla’s Christmas continues to grow far beyond just Christmas. In January Glenn donated over 5 bags of coats to local homeless shelters, with thehelp of SWWPHC member Kathy Tuttle a huge donation of socks and coats made. Presently, Kayla’s Christmas is hitting the road to feed the homeless in Portland and Vancouver.

Chasin’ for ChopperChasin’ for Chopper is a charity barrel race, named in memory of a special soul, a 5 year old Rottweiler named Chopper, Sadly, Chopper was laid to rest at a very young age due to bone cancer, but not before Mrs. Tina Olsen rescued him from the South West Washington HumaneSociety after he was surrendered by his owners due to cost of medical procedures he needed as a puppy. After he laid to rest, the \"Chopper Fund\" was started at the HSSW in Vancouver, WA. This fund is used for providing lifesaving medical procedures to dogs in need, who, with the needed surgery, have a prognosis for a healthy, happy future. Chasin’ for Chopper feel that dogs should not have to beeuthanized due to the inability to pay for a medical procedure so this fund helps to defray costs for those \"special\" souls like Chopper. Our very own Ashley Walsh is the official photographer of this event, donating proceeds from photos sold straight back to the Chopper Fund. We also help promote this event and add additional donations and sponsorships.
Food BankEvery year the SWWPHC runs a canned food drive in conjunction with our openand APHA show. Any food we gather is donated to the Clark County Food Bank. In addition, our very own Grace Harris runs a special garden on her property, donating fresh, home grown fruits and vegetables straight to the food bank.
Holiday Mail for Hero’sEvery year at our November meeting, the members of SWWPHC come together to sign Christmas cards for our deployed military members. This has become a thoroughly enjoyed tradition within the club, and is looked forward to all year!
All of the SWWPHC members have been chomping at the bit for over a year for ourColorpalooza show. Due to a EHV-1 outbreak last May, we had to cancel our 2015 show. We knew we would have to make 2016 a knockout! We brought in Brandon Severin as our show manager, went back to the drawing board and prepered to make one the biggest and best shows the Northwest has ever seen! With custom made prizes, a new venue, a standout team of judges, our extremely dedicated members and many man hours, we feel we have accomplished our goal.Participation was up 50% from our last Colorpalooza show, but most importantly, we put on a FUN show that brought many new faces to the scene. Seeing the delighted faces on our exhibitors made it all worth it!
Our Taco feed night was a huge success, we can’t thank our president Niki Abilla and Treasurer Kathy Tuttle enough for the many hours they spent making this homemade meal!
One of our dedicated members, Rodney Driver putting the finishing touches on our custom awards! Our coveted trainer award helped promote cross-entry and upped participation at the show. None of this would have been possible without our mothers! Since our show is on mother’s day weekend, we pass out hand- picked flowers to every mother at the show! This show is crazy!!

Shopping for trail class Trail ClassBirds eye view of our legendary trail setup
When we first started designing the layout for our 2016 Colorpalooza, we knew straightaway that we wanted to host ranch classes, including a show-stopping ranch trail class. Or competitors had nothing but great things to say about our challenging, but user friendly design. We had excellent participation and look forward to offering these classes again at the 2017 Colorpalooza!
