Who Inspires You? EJ Cooper-Starks, is not only my god mother but also my best friend. She inspires me so much everyday, its incredible. She has a illness that is so rare there isn't a name for it yet. No matter what she has though, she always trys her best to be there for her family and do everything she can for them. A lot of people say that their dad is their hero but mine isn't, my hero is none other then my god mother, EJ Cooper-Starks. I interivewed her Tuesday May 11,2021 and here is what she had to say. Q: Who has made a positive impact on your life? EJ: My god children. I have been there since they were born and it’s amazing to have watched them grow from infants and continue to watch them grow into teenagers and a young adult. Q: What are your 5 most important values in life right now? EJ: Faith, Love, Service, Empathy, and Fearlessness Q: What advice would you give to your past-self 5 years ago? EJ: I would tell my 2016 self to breathe, relax, enjoy the moment, don’t try to figure everything out at one time because you won’t always find the answer, and it’s okay to ask for help .

Gender continues to be a Major Problem in Africa ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jane Tarh Takang is the former Coordinator of Women Organizing for Change in Argriculture and Natural Resource Management (WOCAN) in West and Central Africa. Forest News asked her what are the challenges of working on gender in Africa? and here is what she said. \"One if the major challenges here is that gender equity is considered as a western concept, which challenges African culture. Religion is used to justify the subordination of women, among others. Social, cultural and traditional rules for men and women in Africa are confused with sex roles and considered natural. Poverty results in low self-esteem of women and justifies their subordination.\" Forest News also asked her if she can tell them how she came across WOCAN? and she replied with this \"I got in contact with WOCAN while I was a consultant in HEIFER International Cameroon. I shared WOCAN’s vision of addressing gender in agriculture and natural resources management and became a member of the network in 2006. I was appointed Coordinator for West and Central Africa Region in 2009. Before that, I worked as a development professional for SNV (a development organization from the Netherlands) as Technical Assistant on gender, and then as a freelance Consultant with various national and international organizations, including SNV, WWF, Gender Lenses, etc.
