Queen´s Cup Guards PCZacara twice champrecord tournameIn 2014 the Queen’s Cup had 15 teams, with rarely more teams enrolledthan in the Gold Cup. This tournament also stood out as it was the firsttime in history that, with a great effort of PoloLine, the organizing club,Guards, and of the production company PoloCam, a tournament witha high handicap was entirely live broadcasted on internet. It means agreat progress in the promotion of polo.By Sebastian Amaya and Juan Cruz Diaz Cespedes. Ph. The champion and the restZacara was a surprise, even though it shouldn’tbe a surprise… But it was, because accordingto the records, the team was weaker than lastyear’s team as Rodrigo Andrade’s handicapwas higher than Gonzalo del Tour’s handicap. They were still seen as candidates. However, nobody thought that they could play as goodas last year, as if they wouldn’t have changedthe team.¿What was the key for this?Facundo Pieres was lethal and the wholeteam played comfortably. Gonzalo del Tourplayed good enough, Lyndon Lea was notoutstanding although he is the amateur goalscorer of the tournament, but he is a goodshadow not only for the patrons but also forthe professionals. He played very comfortably.Matt Perry raised his handicap; however it isnot equivalent to the level he is playing today.Undoubtedly, Dubai was a disappointment asit is the leader team of the world. It lost in thequarter finals of the tournament.Talandracas was another surprise thatit wasn´t a real surprise. They started thetournament loosing against Lucchese, a teamthat wasn´t seen as candidates althoughJuanma Nero and the star of the moment,Polito Pieres, played in it. However, as thematches went on, they improved theirperformance and became candidates for thecup, but when they played the final they founda lethal Facundo Pieres that beat them.Enigma didn’t show a good performance.Chris MacKenzie entered into the groundand showed the difference with the lastyear’s team. They lost against Zacara in thequalifying round, but they moved forward toquarter finals and to semi finals; there they 31

were beaten again by Zacara. Anyway, theygot a place among the big teams which leftthem in a good position in the tournament.UAE is still an enigmatic team, as Sheika wasstill unnoticeable; the substitute was a boyfrom Cowdray who plays very good althoughhe hasn’t scored yet. They play comfortablyand it is a good team; that is why they reachedthe semi finals but lost against Talandracas ina tight match.El Remanso could have offered a lot more, they won the subsidiary cup but they can dobetter, mainly because they are the sameteam that has been playing for the last twoyears, or at least, the same basis of the team,Pelón Stirling and Terrera, both determined, but who have managed to go further in thistournament during previous years. One great surprise was the team of the 4Englishmen: Fox and Hounds, which couldreach quarter finals, though on penalties, but played really good and everybody, supported them.King Power could only look at the doorof quarter finals, after being defeated onpenalties by Fox and Hounds. They did not playgood against Enigma, they lost with Zacaraas well, and had not a good performance ingeneral, though it is possible that being theirfirst year in high handicap may surely havehad an influence on these results. The teamhas potential and plenty of enthusiasm; theyhave already confirmed their presence inSotogrande, and some rumors assure thatFacundo Pieres could be playing for this teamafter finishing with Zacara this year, since thisis Lyndon´s last season.32
