The Deputy President visits the youth of SowetoThe W&RSETA joined government in a drive to assist young people to make informed decisions about their careers by showcasingofeducation and training opportunities that are available throughthe Youth Development Expo which was held at University ofJohannesburg, Soweto Campus on 20 February 2016. The event was graced by the Deputy President of the country, HonourableCyril Ramaphosa who interacted with the youth on different issues affecting them such as career guidance, training, entrepreneurship and health. The Expo was the latest in a series of outreach events in which national, provincial and local government partnered with private sector will engage with young people on issues related to education, training and entrepreneurship. Deputy President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa interacting with the youth at the ExpoDuring his address, the Deputy President emphasised government’s commitment to youth development and that investing inyouth is the best investment towards the future of the country.The Deputy President encouraged the youth to consider studying at TVET colleges which focus on areas that have been identifiedas scarce and critical skills in the country. Mr. Ramaphosa was accompanied by a high profile delegation of Ministers and DeputyMinisters from the following portfolios: Higher Education and Training, Small Business Development, Public Works, PostalServices, Labour, Women and The Presidency. The MEC of Education in Gauteng, Mr. Panyaza Lesufi and the JohannesburgCity Mayor Mr. Parks Tau were also amongst the delegation.“We are gathered here today to introduce some of the manyopportunities that exist for the youth. This is a unique showcaseof study and career opportunities offered by government,various agencies and the private sector. You should leave herewith a better understanding of the scarce and critical skills thatwe need to be more competitive and efficient and to grow oureconomy,” said the Deputy President. Mr. Ramphosa further went on to say that “We have a shortage of artisans. Many of these qualifications can be acquired at TVET colleges. Government is investing significantly in these colleges. We are also leading efforts to strengthen partnerships between colleges and the private sector”. SMME RoadshowsThe SME Department recently hit the road to interact with small Stakeholders in Mafikengbusinesses on the abundant opportunities that the SETA offers to theSMME sector. Following the previous report, the SMME roadshowcampaign which started on 3 February 2016 in Pietermaritzburg,KwaZulu Natal has reached over 1400 stakeholders across sevenprovinces around the country.The roadshows took a holistic approach by incorporating otherkey role players that play a pivotal role in SMME development onmatters such as funding, market access, compliance andnon-financial support. These role players include the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), South African Revenue Services (SARS),Companies Intellectual Property Corporation (CIPC) and the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). During the month of February, the Department interacted with stakeholders from all provinces across the country. Stakeholders in KroonstadThe SMMEs came out in reasonably good numbers and have engaged the SETA and the institutions that were representedon the challenges that they face in conducting their businesses, starting businesses as well as sustaining their businesses.Stakeholders met with excitement the announcements that the SETA would be rolling out the Informal Traders Upliftment Project(ITUP) phase II which will benefit another 1000 and the Rural And Townships Economies Revitalisation Programme (RATERP)which will also benefit 6000 SMMEs and youth across the country.The roadshows were concluded on 29 February 2016 in Soshanguve, Gauteng. Investor in People (IiP)HR conducts a Capacity Building workshop on Investors in People (IiP)By DesmondEmployees are an invaluable asset to an organisation and the key to its success.It is thereforevital for employers to understandthat a content and motivated employee has a higher probability of making significant contributions to the organisation. TheSETA is committed to high employee satisfaction and also has embraced the Investors in People standard. In 2008, the SETAwas recognised as an IiP organisation. The HR Department has since embarked on a process to revive the implementation ofthe Standard within the Organisation. One of the interventions in this process includes amongst others ensuring that employeesunderstand the objectives of the IiP standard and its role on organisational excellence.A workshop was conducted on 18 February 2016 at HeadOffice to capacitate representatives (better known as TMF/IiPFacilitators) from departmental clusters and regional offices onthe IiP standard. The workshop was also aimed at assisting theSETA to identify potential barriers and change managementchallenges that would impact on the implementation of theNew IiP (Generation Six) Standard. The discussions includedhow to respond to the these challenges. Dr Mariam Sha facilitating during workshopDonald presenting findings from the Dr. Mariam Sha from Awakening Excellence, who was also group discussions instrumental in the SETA achieving its recognition as an IiP organisation in 2008, facilitated the session. The new theme of the Investor in People is “Leading, Supporting and Improving”.Dr. Sha conducted an interactive session where attendees New IiP standard and key principles groupparticipated in group exercises to discuss the new pillars and discussionsprinciples of the standard. This undoubtedly resulted in veryinteresting ideas during the group presentations.The representatives now remain with the important taskof ensuring that their team members / constituencies arecapacitated on the new Generation Six standard. This will bedone through the TMF/IiPconversations which are traditionallyconvened on Fridays.The Insider will in future convey snippetsof the New Generation Six Standard.Issue 07 |February | 2016 5

SCM ProfileDepartmental Profile - Supply Chain ManagementSupply Chain Management (SCM) is an essential element to operational efficiency and success of any organisation whoseprimary responsibility is to ensure that the right product and quantity are delivered timeously to the internal customer. Primarily, the role of the Supply Chain Management Department is to procure and maintain infrastructure, goods, services and tools of trade required by the organisation in order to fulfil its skills development mandate. From the buildings that we occupy right down to the milk and coffees that we consume on a daily basis, go through the SCM processes. Supply chain is governed by very strict regulations and legislation such as the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and National Treasury Regulations. The Department comprises various aspects of supply chain management which include procurement, tender management and supplier management. Lenah Sebalo has the huge task of heading this team; a responsibility she assumed about two years ago after her tenure as the Mpumalanga RM.Lenah Sebalo SCM Manager Departmental StructureOne of the Department’s recent highlights was the procurementand delivery of 32 laptops for the TVET College Coordinatorswhich was well within the delivery lead time. From HR Desk W&RSETA Code of ConductsPart of the HR Department’s role is to ensure compliance to the Organisation’s policies. The HR department is tasked to ensurethat policies are communicated to all staff on a continuous basis. Attached on the link below is the Code of Conduct whichforms part of the HR policy. The HR department will send out a request to all staff requesting them to sign as proof that they havereceived, read and understood the content of the Code of Conduct.
