SALESIANITY 12 | 2ND Semester, 4th Quarter Final Work &MY GREATEST DISCOVERIES REFLECTION Mary Beatrice P. Soberano 12 - St. Mary Mazzarello, STEM

Salesianity ClassGreatestdiscoveryabout One of the most important things I've learnt is that spirituality in the Salesian in the Salesian ambience is characterized by holiness in everyday life. For Don Bosco, one is not expected to do a heroic act in order to consider somebody as holy. Holiness is rendered in doing ordinary duties extraordinarily well. Hence, everybody has a chance to become holy because everyone is exposed to the ordinariness of life. Great sanctity can emerge from simplicity. It's no surprise that Don Bosco creates young saints like St. Dominic Savio and Blessed Laura Vicuna. They are the fruits of spirituality in the daily. Don Bosco's spirituality is guided by two pillars: his love for the Blessed Sacrament and devotion to Our Lady Help of Christians, aside from executing regular responsibilities exceptionally well. My parents are also familiar with Don Bosco's spirituality, thus we are living Don Bosco's spirituality in our household. As a result, I am able to develop my devotion to Our Lady Help of Christians and my adoration for the Blessed Sacrament.

Greatest discovery about Indeed, I can say that Don Bosco is a man destined by God for a mission under the guidance of our Blessed Mother, the Help of Christians. I was made to understand St. John that his “Dream @9” was the basis for his future mission. In one of his sayings, he Bosco said: “It is enough that you are young for me to love you very much!” In caring for the young, Don Bosco is particular of something, that is to take care of their souls. This is shown in his motto: “Give me souls, take away the rest”. Don Bosco’s mission in taking care of the souls of his boys is guided by his famous Preventive System of Education which has three well-known pillars: reason, religion and loving-kindness. Don Bosco’s unique way of dealing with the young bears fruit as it produced the youngest male and female saints in the history of the Catholic Church. I am also inspired of his priesthood life and I believe that it is God's will for him alongside taking care of youngsters from Turin and eventually from the entire world. Indeed, our Blessed Mother neverleftDonBosco'ssidetillhislastbreath, andinhisdeathbed, I am struck of what he said: \"Our Blessed Mother is here among you\", for I have heard and seen this phrase several times at school. Having been able to deepen my knowledge about his life made me inspired to live a beautiful and meaningful salesian life even after graduating from high school in DBS.

Greatest discovery about St. Mary Mazzarello Despite the fact that Mary Domenica was born into a peasant household, her parents instilled in her a deep sense of God and an ethical conscience. She was also raised with a strong sense of practicality and discernment. I've always believed that if a person comes from a household with responsible parents, their children will grow up to be just like St. MaryMazzarello, whogrewupwithastrong sense of responsibility. Another characteristic of St. Mary Mazzarello that I love is her humility and zealous generosity. When her confessor requested her to look after family who were ailing with typhoid fever, she displayed this. Despite her knowledge that she could become a victim of this contagious sickness, she meekly cared for the sick, yet she became infected and sick. She recovered completely and resumed her normal life, thanks to God's mercy.

MaryGreatest discovery about Help of Christians Mary Help of Christians is one of the titles given to our Blessed Mother. In one of my discoveries, I just realized that the title Mary Help of Christians is being propagated and spread by the Salesian Fathers and Sisters and eventually by the Salesian Family. Our Blessed Mother entrusted to Don Bosco his future mission in his famous dream at 9. From the beginning, our Blessed Mother guided John in his mission until his last breath. When hardships and difficulties may come along the way, Don Bosco entrusted everything to our Lady, the Help of Christians. In his famous sayings he said: “Have devotion to Mary Help of Christians and you will see what miracles are.” This devotion to Mary Help of Christians is being practiced by my family. In fact, we prayed the novena to Mary Help of Christians nine days before her feast day.

What values do you already have? and what do you still need to beg to the Lord to help you practice in your daily life? My personal perspective tells me that I am dominantly living two values . As a grade 12 student is fast approaching her graduation, I have been experiencing sleepless nights and lack of time for self-enjoyment due to the amount of school work I have. In this situation, the value of self-determination within me becomes dominant, and because of this, I am able to accomplish my tasks efficiently and am able to pass them on time. Aside from nearing the end of the school year and my student life in Don Bosco School, it is important that I show my gratitude to everyone who helped me reach this far. With that said, the second value I uphold is appreciation. I find myself being appreciative and grateful about everything. I want to beg the Lord to help me develop a deeper spirituality in my daily life because I believe that obtaining it can help me live a holy life and be able to establish a good relationship to God. How will you live the values you have learned in your daily life? I was able to develop the values of self-determination and appreciation withinme during the pandemic, particularly when I was not allowed to go out of the house. Because of this, I can live out these values by making them dominant when doing school works. Most of the time, I find myself studying since I can't really relax nor enjoy a bit of time doing nothing when I know that there's a pile of work waiting for me. Upholding self-determination and appreciation during these times can help look at the better side of the situation. The value of self-determination can help bring out the best in me and later on, once everything is done, I will be able to realize that my efforts are not wasted. Appreciation on the other hand helps me realize that it is better to study and have a pile of work rather than not be able to. I am fortunate to be able to study in a good school, a catholic one on top of all that, even during the pandemic, and I believe, I must not waste this opportunity to learn, and identify and develop my skills.

How do you see yourself as a member of one of the groups of the Salesian Family? First of all, I am fortunate to be part of the Salesian Family because some of the values planted in me were sown by them. I seem to have developed a deep sense of faith and presence of God within me which I believe will always guide me to continuosly be a true Bosconian who is a good Christian and honestcitizen. Forme, it is crucial that I pray everyday, and in my prayers, I always ask God for guidance and I thank Him for all the blessings He has given me. If I were to beg the Lord about something He could help me with, I would probably ask Him to help me stay positive everyday. I chose to ask Him of this for I am easily overwhelmed by the amount of school work I have to do, especially since the performance task week is fast approaching and the school year is about to end. As a Bosconian and soon to be alumna, my Salesian spirituality will always remain in my heart. This, I believe, will dictate my feelings and actions even after I leave DBS and start a new chapter of my life as a college student.
