WOLVERINE BASEBALL Varsity Coaching Staff Craig Hanson VARSITY HEAD COACH This is Coach Hanson’s 13th season as the Wolverines Varsity Head Coach and 16th year in the program. Prior to becoming the Head Coach he had served as a Varsity Assistant Coach under Sommer McCartney for four years. Coach Hanson, originally from Minnesota, played collegiate baseball at Triton Junior College in Chicago, Illinois. After the 1991 collegiate baseball season, he was the San Diego Padre’s 9th round selection in the Professional Baseball Draft. He pitched professionally for six seasons (1991-1997), for both the Padres and Mariners organizations. Coach Hanson played at the AA level in both organizations. One of his professional highlights includes winning the California League Championship while a member of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 1994. During his tenure at Aliso Niguel, Coach Hanson has been a part of a program that has won four league championships (2004, 2005, 2010, and 2013). Coach Hanson’s Wolverine teams have earned 8 playoff appearances and have made it to the Division 2, CIF Finals in two of the last three years. Coach Hanson holds an AA Degree from Triton Junior College, a BA from the University of Minnesota, and a Master’s Degree from National University. He has been teaching for sixteen years and is currently a Resource Specialist at Aliso Niguel High School. He currently resides in Ladera Ranch with is wife, Renee, son Nicholas (15), daughter, Ellie (12), and daughter, Sydney (9). Scott Clark VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH Scott Clark is in his third year of coaching here at Aliso Niguel. Coach Clark has been teaching at Portola Middle School in Orange for over 20 years, where he also coaches the boy’s soccer and girl’s volleyball teams.He resides in Ladera Ranch with his wife Cassandra and daughter Natalie.22 | Aliso Niguel High School Baseball 2018

WOLVERINE BASEBALLVarsity Coaching Staff Brett Krill VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH Coach Krill graduated from Aliso Niguel High School in 2007, where he played for Coach Hanson and lead the South Coast League with a .439 batting average during his senior season. He was named a 2006 AFLAC All-American, 2007 PlayStation All-American, Rawlings All-American and Louisville Slugger All American. He earned second-team All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 honors in 2007, first-team All-South Coast League honors in 2007, was selected to the 2007 All Orange County first-team and played in the 2007 Orange County All-Star Game. Coach Krill finished his senior campaign with an impressive .519 on-base percentage and .742 slugging percentage, hitting successfully in 18 of 21 games and striking out only twice in 77 plate appearances. After graduating from Aliso Niguel, he helped lead UCLA to two NCAA Regionals in 2008 and 2010 and the program’s third-ever appearance at the College World Series in 2010. He was selected in the 25th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants after his Junior year and played in the Giant’s organization for 4 years. During that time, he was also a 2011 MLB All Star for the Salem- Keizer Volcanoes. Coach Krill loves to surf and play ping pong in Dana Point where he lives with his roommate, JP Goodman, who is also an alumnus of Aliso Niguel High School. Brent Murphy VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH Coach Murphy graduated from North Garland High School in Texas where he played both baseball and basketball, was Senior Athlete of the Year in 1994, and inducted into the Garland Sports Hall of Fame. After high school, he played right field at Hill Jr. College in Texas and was Pre-season All American in 1996 prior to going to University of Alabama- Birmingham where he was Centerfielder and Closer for two years before suffering torn triceps. Coach Murphy’s coaching career began as a hitting coach and recruiter for Richland College where he won the 2003 NJCAA Junior College World Series. He then served as hitting coach and recruiter for Grayson College for three years, winning the 2008 NJCAA Junior College World Series and where he coached three future Big League players, Jordan Walden, Mike Bolsinger, and Carson Smith. Just prior to joining us here at ANHS, Coach Murphy served as hitting/outfield coach for Agoura High School 2015-2016, helping them to reach the ranking of #4 in the country in 2015. WOLVERINE BASEBALLJunior Varsity Coaching Staff Ernie Meier JV HEAD COACH Coach Meier joins us this year as the 2018 Wolverine JV Head Coach. He is from Washington State where he coached the Bothell High School Freshman team from 2013-2016 and the Juanita High School JV team in 2017. Coach Meier has been coaching baseball since 1991 and his teams have won numerous tournament championships and the 14U Koufax Washington State Championship in 2011. Coach Meier is retired after owning an insurance brokerage for 24 years and selling the business to a national brokerage firm in 2009. Currently, Coach Meier resides in Laguna Niguel with his beautiful wife of 33 years, Carmen, and has two adult sons, Brett and Ryan. Robert Anderle JV ASSISTANT COACH Coach Anderle attended Aliso Niguel High School where he played baseball under Coach Hanson. This is Robert’s third year as a high school baseball coach. Robert has coached little league for the previous six years. Coaching is a passion of Robert’s and he has enjoyed coaching his younger brother Jake. Robert is currently playing in the Pacific Coast Baseball League and looks forward to continuing his coaching career. John Miner JV ASSISTANT COACH Coach Miner returned to the program for his third year. He coached at the Varsity High School level from 1997-2004 before starting a career with the Fire Department. In 2015, he resumed coaching Football and Baseball at the High School level. He has been fortunate to be a part of a handful of C.I.F. Championships and 1 State Championship as a player and a coach. Coach Miner is married to his lovely wife, Stephanie, and has had the chance to coach his two sons, Jack and Nolan, here at Aliso Niguel. Coach Miner is looking forward to watching the games from the outfield next year and would like to thank all the coaches he has coached with, the parents for accepting him, and especially the players for making this such a great experience.
