DG Velibor ZOLAK GOVERNOR'S NEWSLETTER No. 1 - July 2016 Dear Presidents and Secretaries, Dear Rotarians and Rotaracts, Never smaller, never weaker, BUT STRENGTH IS NOT IN NUMBERS! The new Rotary year has not started very well. Most of the clubs have lost their members and the new year started with 1,194 members and 62 clubs (down 61 members and one club), smaller and weaker than ever before. However, strength is not in numbers! The strength primarily depends on our firmness and resolution to build better organization and community than the current ones, believing that we can do it despite all obstacles, wishing to do good deeds, and be the leaders in promoting the good in our local community, in establishing strong links with our community. We are proud to be carrying a badge of the organization that has been doing good deeds for already 100 years in all the communities throughout the world it is present in. We must live up to that standard every day. Doing good deeds, high ethical and professional standards we cherish and the leadership in all professions are what distinguishes us from everybody else! The organizations such as ours do not depend on unchangeable cosmic rules, economic trends and national laws, but ONLY ON OURSELVES, on our will and faith, our commitment. Whoever does not have this will should leave their position as a leader; whoever does not have the faith should leave the organization. This is not the organization for the despondent and narrow-minded! This is the organization for those with surplus good will to help their community and do good. If we want to reverse the trends, we can do it! If we want more members, we will attract them with nice and successful actions and positive image these actions project. What we need are actions, rather than talks, arid presentations, self-praises or mere display of a badge. If we wish larger and more successful actions, we must design, plan and launch them! WE CAN HAVE BOTH SUCCESSFUL ACTIONS AND NEW MEMBERS! This is evident from the clubs: Budva, Zemun, Šabac, Beograd Metropolitan, Beograd Skadarlija, Beograd Dunav, Novi Sad Alma Mons, Novi Sad Dunav, Sremska Mitrovica, etc! First things first WHAT ARE OUR GOALS? Therefore, I would like to remind all the presidents and secretaries of clubs that 1 September is the final deadline for setting goals by the clubs and entering them into the Rotary Club Central! Without carefully defined goals, there can be no meaningful and successful actions. Velibor Zolak District Governor D2483 Montenegro & Serbia C +382 69 01 74 44
As of 5 September, the assistants, district trainers and committee chairs will start our official visits to the clubs and evaluation of the feasibility of the goals set by the clubs and monitoring of their achievement. We will not be inventing our goals, they have been defined by our highest bodies, while our task is to adjust them to the concrete community and individual conditions each club operates in. Every club that carries this great sign is obliged to set goals in the following fields: 1. Member attraction and engagement 2. Contribution to the Foundation 3. Adoption of online tools 4. Humanitarian service 5. New generations 6. Image Back to the standards Of all the goals set by the Rotary International, the defined membership growth rates do not apply to our District, as they apply to REMEDIAL PLAN the standard clubs (with over 20 members). Our task is much greater – to restore each club to the minimum of 20 members necessary to register a club! Our Rotary Zone 20B and the New Zone Director Corneliu DINCA have designed new Regional Membership Plan & Remedial Plan, implying special teams that will be working with the clubs with fewer than 15 members in order to ensure their recovery. The clubs that will be assisted by the District and Zone have been selected on the basis of the following criteria: number of club members, attendance of meetings, change in numbers, membership retention rate in a three-year period, problems in payment of liabilities to RI and District, contribution to the Foundation, and participation in the community aid projects. The action is directly managed by the District Membership Committee Chair Vesna LATINOVIĆ, in the cooperation with me and, indirectly, with the zone coordinator Malik AVIRAL. SEMINARS OF THE ROTARY FOUNDATION – 17 and 18 September Page2 There is a lot of works ahead of us this autumn, including a series of meetings and seminars. On 17 and 18 September (Saturday and Sunday), we will organize two seminars: The Rotary Foundation (TRF) seminar and the Grant Management (GM) seminar. Save these dates and inform your club about them! The drafting of seminar programs and selection of the venue are under way. The purpose of these seminars is to get acquainted with the Rotary Foundation and its programmes and the training of club leaders in project application, monitoring and control of the projects funded by other clubs, the Rotary Foundation and the Global and District Grants. The seminar is mandatory for all the presidents of the clubs and chairs of the clubs’ TRF committees. Only the clubs whose committee chairs have attended these seminars qualify for the Global and District Grants.
Major event in Zone 20B Page3 ROTARY INSTITUTE THESSALONIKI - 6 - 9 October 2016 What is the congress for others, that is the Institute for our organi- zation. The largest, major and most interesting event in the Zone, which is attended by everybody who loves the Rotary. It will be attended by the most senior Rotari- ans, governors, coordinators, dire- ctors - both current and former, as well as our President John F. GERM. October is the month of low prices at the seaside, including the accommodation rates between €15 and €120 in Thessaloniki, and plenty of restaurants and other temptations. Since the institute is just “a stone’s throw away,” five or six hours drive on the highway, and the transport costs are very low when shared among three or four people, the conditions have been met for us to surprise our Zone and the Rl with an unexpectedly large turnout. This will be the EVENT TO REMEMBER for the rest of a person’s Rotarian life! A classic win-win situation – the major event, the greatest satisfaction, at the lowest cost. The registration fee is €125, which covers a welcome cocktail on Thursday afternoon, two lunches (Friday and Saturday) and all coffee breaks. You will make new friends, meet coordinators, directors and the President and, if you come prepared and persistent - arrange new projects and actions for your club. In addition – you will have a great time! In conclusion: if you mean well for your club – REGISTER! www.ri2016.rotarydistrict2484.org New forces NEW CLUB - RC Beograd Kalemegdan On the last day of the old Rotary year, the Rotary District 2483 got a new club – RC Beograd Kalemegdan.
