District Governor’s Be a gift Letter To the world Dear Fellow Rotarians, Be a gift To the world June is Fellowships Month. Rotary Fellowships can provide a great way to make new friends around the world and enhance our Rotary experience.  Rotary Fellowships are international, independently organized groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Dear friends, It is hard to believe, but this Rotary year is going to be over in about THREE weeks. I gained at least 3-4 kgs in weight and my fitness level has gone from bad to worse, but I feel very privileged and honored to have served as District Governor this year, and I am certainly proud of what we have accomplished so far. More importantly, I am most grateful to the Rotarians that have made all the good things happen. Since this is not my last newsletter, I shall save the farewell statement to the one you will receive before the end of this month. May was truly a special month to my heart. During this month, we witnessed a most successful District Conference by all measures. The next pages will show more about how Rotarians from Jordan, together with their fellows from the nine countries of our District, and beside many Rotarians and friends who came from other parts of the world, celebrated the best finale of a great Rotary year. Conference Chair Rami Sha’ban and I had the honor and the pleasure to meet and greet our guests at the gate when landing in Amman starting with our guest of honor, Rotary International President Representative RID Jennifer Jones and Nick. We have all enjoyed three days of Rotary, fellowship and fun on the shores of the Dead Sea with wonderful and unusual weather at this time of the year. The magnificent opening ceremony with the presence of His Excellency Akel Biltaji, Mayor of Amman, and the charming RID Jennifer and many dignitaries, together with senior Rotarians, guests and their families, was the first flagship of an unforgettable conference. In spite of the fact that the dinner and entertainment programs throughout the conference finished very late every night, the plenary sessions covering all Rotary areas of focus with distinguished speakers from different parts of the world, and representing the public and private sectors together with civil society organizations, were crowded with attendees from the early hours. On the second day, our visiting Rotarians enjoyed Jordanian hospitality dinners at various homes and locations. RID Jennifer and Nick, as well as a handful of us, had the pleasure to visit a few homes to witness the great fellowship celebrated during this special part of our program. Our Gala Dinner on the last night was an exceptional gathering with great entertainment that kept guests celebrating all night long. The voting session was one of the milestones of the conference. During the session, the District delegates approved the nomination of PP Michel P. Jazzar from the RC of Kesrouan as District Governor Nominee for the Rotary Year 2018-2019. Furthermore, the delegates approved the audited financial statement of District 2452 for the Rotary Year 2014-2015, as well as the budget for the Rotary Year 2016-2017. Moreover, the selection process for the District 2452 governor and the district governor nominee took place and got approved. Last day witnessed many important activities. The closing ceremony witnessed the District resolutions and the long-awaited activities by all Rotary clubs: the distribution of District awards. Many clubs went home with so many awards to celebrate the results of all the year’s hard work in all avenues of service. Yours in Rotary Mustafa Nasereddin District Governor 1

Rotary International Be a gift President’s Letter To the world British writer and Royal Air Force pilot Roald Dahl was also manyTBaone a gift avid photographer who carried his beloved Zeiss camera on his the world adventures. At a time when each photograph had to be laboriously developed by hand, on film or glass plate negatives, he amassed a collection of hundreds of images. In later years, these photographs served as a visual record of his travels, a way to document his experiences and share them with others. Yet he always spoke of his memories as being far more vivid than the photographs could ever reflect. So many events and experiences, he said, were simply impossible to capture; they could not be adequately conveyed in images or words. Language may fail, and photographs fade; minds are fallible, and details are lost. But some experiences, as Dahl said, never dim; they stand out in our memories, even after decades, as a wall of flame. They rear up forever over the landscape of our past; dividing our lives into what came before and what came after. That metaphor has stayed with me throughout the past year as I have traveled the world for Rotary. For indeed, this entire year has stood, and will always stand, as a wall of flame in my mind, dividing my life into before and after. When I think back over these 12 months, I see a bright kaleidoscope of images cascading before my eyes, day after day, week after week. The anxious parents in Chandigarh, India, hovering at the bedside of the child recovering from lifesaving heart surgery. The bright flags of Nepal fluttering over an entire village that had been rebuilt after the devastating earthquake. The feeling of awe in St. Peter’s Square at the Jubilee of Rotarians celebrated by Pope Francis. Joyful gatherings around the world, in so many countries, in so many languages – with friends I had never before met, my brothers and sisters in Rotary. To serve as president of Rotary International is a colossal undertaking, one that cannot be truly conveyed in images or words. It is a wall of flame that will burn forever in my memory, dancing with light, shifting in shadow. A thousand images jostle together in my mind, a thousand recollections, a thousand emotions. Together, they form a great mosaic; together, they show the bright and glorious work of your hands. As this Rotary year draws to a close, I am prouder than ever to be part of this great organization: one that makes the world not poorer, but richer; replaces despair with hope; raises up those whom fate has brought low; and is a gift to so many, while allowing each of us to Be a Gift to the World. K.R. Ravindran RI President 2015-16 2
