Avyav (adj) Avyav is a Hindi word that signifies organic materials or components. This collection was made with 100% organic cotton and linen textiles, with threads dyed in indigo plants, and pomegranate skins to give it its colours. We even incorporated orange peels and apple seeds to give depth to the colours. Avyav embodies our principles as well as the essence of nature. www.oshadi.co.in



A Note from the founder I realised I could have a bigger influence if I “lent” my approach to more like-minded artists. We can offer our supplier base to other companies, and this is what begins to shift the market. I believe that if sustainability was more easily accessible, more people would adopt it. What we truly aim to do with this business is to find a solution that everyone can use. Malone’s autumn 2020 collection, for example, was created in collaboration with Oshadi Studio, winning him the International Woolmark Prize. Oshadi has also worked on textiles with Maggie Marilyn and Story MFG. ’Collaboration’ is a key word for me. In addition to addressing the issue of fashion’s longevity, I am committed to changing the industry’s perception of Indian craftspeople. When Raf Simons interacts with a Parisian artist, no one thinks he’s “helping a hungry artist” or “preserving a legacy craft.” But whenever you learn about designers collaborating with Indian craftspeople, it’s always about donation or doing things to’support’ them. It’s never mentioned in the headline how they perform such fantastic work. Who gets to determine what someone else’s “minimum” salary is? Who gets to decide what constitutes a “living” salary for somebody?
