KARWAAN Editorial. The elucidation of CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, Yeshwanthpur Campus’s magazine ‘Karwaan’ can be best portrayed as a misconstrued persona found hiding along the verses of Urdu Poetry. The ever-so-sensitive Urdu poetry sympathises with the agonies of the misread word, affirming its reality by defining it as a ‘vehicle that accompanied a harmonious group of individuals on their voyage’. Grasping the illusionistic spectacle offered by Urdu poetry, Christites shuffled into the pages of their first-ever magazine. The first-years of our campus entered as half- dazed insomniacs fueled by caffeine and validation, roaming the halls desperately trying not to lose their marbles getting caught up in the symphonies of the Daedalian orchestra titled ‘university’. Karwaan attempts to articulate and illustrate every orchestral interlude of our campus. The Department of Media Studies, a bunch of equally befuddled first years’ were entrusted with the curation of it all. Standing at the gates of our campus, they were asked to abridge the campus in all its glory, extracting its essence. We tirelessly scrounged every nook of our campus, attempting to narrate the tales of everyone that came under the mighty wing of CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, Yeshwanthpur Campus. In the midst of it all, we saw our department and its ZARINA MATHER students fall into place much like a jigsaw puzzle waiting to be solved. The reporters went above and Student Coordinator beyond in search of stories with flavour and characters with panache, the editors critiqued every word that Dr Nirmala M N made it to the pages with a sieve for perfection, the photographers aligned to capture the most palatable Faculty Coordinator shots of the stories brewed and the designers delineated the enticing anecdotes onto the salver. Every slice of Karwaan was carefully picked to be the most delectable to serve the reader and its legacy shall remain unmatched for the years to come.

KARWAAN FROM THE DIRECTOR'S DESK It was inaugurated by former Vice Chancellor Thomas C. Mathew. This was a joyous occasion for all, filled with aspiration and hope. Father Benny elaborated that this campus is formed to adhere to the New Education Policy and implement the dual-major programme. Establishing the campus near the industrial area also facilitates an academic and industrial connection giving students exposure through fieldwork and internships. Every campus has a vision and a goal that they wish to achieve. The connivance of every faculty member and student gives this process of decision-making a sense of belongingness. Father Benny believes this goal is not something that is set in stone but is rather dynamic. As a result, the vision for the campus is still being formulated and nurtured through constant brainstorming. - By Ananya Goenka (BACP-B) and Father Benny also shared with us his favourite Yash Kashyap (BACP-B) part about the whole campus. Teachers' Day - By Samriddhi Srivastava (BACP-A) The years we spend at college will live on in our memories for the rest of our lives, and they are undoubtedly some of the best ones. When mornings evolve into evenings and friends become family, we remember the friends we make and the time we spend hanging out in the canteen discussing everything from class notes to gossip. Who do we turn to, though, when times go tough? Without a doubt, our teachers, yes. They do have a significant impact on how we navigate the emotional rollercoaster we call \"college life.\" It's been said that professors can transform a student’s life with the perfect combination of challenges and chalk. The Yeshwanthpur campus students celebrated their maiden Teachers' Day with astounding dance performances, mind- blowing shows, and melodious musical medleys with songs from nearly every state. The basement was brimming with happiness when everyone joined in with the university music club's rendition of \"Koi Mil Gaya\". And that's not all, \"picture abhi baaki hai mere dost\". Our teachers added to the evening's entertainment by performing on stage with us, from Thirunarayana Murthi sir making the whole crowd tap their feet in glee with his groovy dance to Krishna ma'am mesmerizing everyone while singing \"Mere Dholna\". The event, to put it mildly, was a magnificent success. Christites radiated utmost respect and cheerful zeal that day. 5

KARWAAN Inside the Mind of The Psychology Department - By Divya Yeram (MPCL B) Although our course might seem a bit eccentric to everyone else, it is the one thing that makes it different from the rest. Handpicked brains come together and create beautiful chaos. Random things end up being memorable for us. Whether it's our professor making us dance to \"Baby Shark\" after an intense session on coping with the grief of death or teaching us attachment styles by having us draw symbols on the blackboard that show how we express love. Usually, students are known to be joking about teachers, but when the teachers themselves join in on the fun, that’s when the real party begins. The CIAs are hectic. It is not not every day that you are expected to shoot a video, present animations, or perform several kinds of research all at once. It is not always rainbows and sunshine, but with the right amount of strictness balanced with a dash of fun. Our department is a 6-course meal not only because of our subject but also because of this beautiful and encouraging bond that the students share with their teachers. 26

KARWAAN FRANÇAIS “French is one of the first foreign languages to be taught in India” I am Jayalakshmi Jayaraman, an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Cultural Studies at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), training postgraduate and undergraduate students in the French language for the past five years. I have experience heading the Department of French language at Jyoti Nivas College, Bangalore for three years. I have also explored the industry as a French Analyst at HSBC International Bank and as a French Premium Accounting Specialist at Infosys BPO Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore for 5 years. My achievements include the translation of the short story “A Long Walk for Bina” by Ruskin Bond to “L’Itinéraire de Bina” in French, being a part of the MFG team of quarter award operations, winning the Team champion of the year in 2009 and being awarded the Wall of Fame award. The French faculty has around 13 years of experience as French language specialists across various organizations. This course is specially designed to cater to students who are interested in specializing in the French language, literature, and culture. The main objective of French training is to help students converse during technical discussions with French stakeholders, thereby enabling students to become multilingual specialists. I have always been an ardent history and music aficionado, having been inspired by my seventh-grade history teacher who made me fall in love with the subject. It was my dream to become a history professor in the future. However, my parents misunderstood the value of history and forced me to opt for Computer Science and Mathematics in Higher Secondary School. I enrolled in the BSc Chemistry program after much deliberation. Learning Carnatic Music since the age of three from my grandmother, attracted me to every music event which was happening and out of campus. I accidentally became one of the final fourteen contestants of a reality show in Kerala which made me miss one and a half years of Chemistry! I represented the South zone in the National Level Youth Festival and became the Individual Champion which later paved the way for French. Further, I completed Post-Graduation and MPhil in 30 French. I started working as a guest faculty for French at the age of 21. Nothing could stop me from pursuing Music so I continued singing and composing along with my French studies. I did my Ph.D. in 2016 at a Central University and will soon submit the thesis on Parisian Suburban music. It took so long to understand the social exclusion brought by music. Finally, I joined CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Yeshwanthpur Campus, and this was the career I wanted, and God took me here. Now trying to spread the beauty of the French language to the students. I am indeed proud to say that I could initiate a Music society on Yeshwanthpur Campus. I am learning Carnatic vocals under the renowned musician Dr Sreevalsan J Menon.

KARWAAN The class of first-year MA English makes up a RO OM NUMBER measly number of 30 students in the entire Christ population, but let me tell you—they're one crazy 301 lot. Any teacher in the English department would back this claim with way too many stories. We’re a diverse class with students hailing from all corners of India, which makes us an interesting melting pot of different cultures with surprisingly harmonious connections. Starting off with the Bangaloreans—Amulya, - By Adithi Arun (MAENG) Bhavya, Anushka, Abha, and myself—they're not wrong when they say most Bangaloreans aren’t Kate, Ritu, and Anoushka – the class talents Kannadigas because Anushka is a native Bengali, from the Northeast. I can picture Ritu and Anu Amu and Bhav are native Telugu speakers, while singing soulful ballads while Kate yodels in the Abha and I are native Malayalis. But after more background. Finally, the beloved North Indian largest group with Jerry, Bava, Febby, Fahi, students—Nishtha, Jayati, Sneha, Harshita, Gayathri 1, and Nikhita—you'll often catch them Suravi, Aadyasha, Manasi, Christina, and Raina huddled in a corner of the class, spitting rapid-fire are the backbone of our class and ready to fight Tamil as if in a rap battle. My most prominent memory of them is Kelvin pandemonium: we whine about our problems defending his pronunciation of \"orange\" as correct while feeding each other snacks as if we were in our linguistics class to our professor with perfect suspended in a never-ending Christmas dinner. intonation (ironically, who is also Malayali). KARWAAN Nagasandra from B a bird's eye 40 -By Harsh Bisht (BACP-A) In the last decade or so, the metropolitan city of Bangalore has witnessed an insurgence of Bangaloreans who’ve migrated for the purpose of education as well as career opportunities. As a youngster, moving to Bangalore may have included many aspects; changing your environment, adjusting to a new locality, change of culture, exposure to a new language and so on and so forth. It's been rather frustrating, am I right? It dawned on me that we could have very well been bothersome to the locals. A reputed institution like CHRIST stands in their personal space. Students from across the country hold on to their different interpretations of the world, which directly or indirectly, influence their lives. So, me and the head of the photography club, with his camera and my questions, stepped out of the university gates, to interview these locals. The warm and friendly welcome the locality provided us exceeded all expectations we had.

Stepping outside the gate, our eyes fell upon the KARWAAN mouth-watering pani-puri. Perhaps, it was our hunger or maybe it was just its obvious appeal, 41 but we ended up in front of the stall in a matter of seconds. The pani-puri maker, Mr Rohit had moved to Bangalore in search of a livelihood. Even after having learnt the regional language, He continued to face difficulty in pronouncing certain things. He did, however, know “swalpa- swalpa Kannada” (little-little Kannada). He says that the Christites have positively affected his earnings and is definitely happy to have us in his area. After which, we approached the ones who played an important role in our attendance. Every day, they watched us rush into campus, almost as if we were about to catch a flight. These guys were none other than our auto- rickshaw drivers. We conversed with Mr. Lakshmi Kant, Mr Nagaraj, Mr Yalappa, and the eldest among them Mr. Kumar, who had been driving the auto-rickshaw for 11 years now. They park by campus from 10am to 8:30pm, so do avail of their services in reaching your destination. They expressed their sorrow caused by students who don't pay the right amount. Even after which, they held a positive regard of us. I sincerely hope you do not make things more difficult for them. CHRIST is very particular about their rules. One of which was denial of entry without a mask. What to do next? Approach the medical centre in front of our college. Mr Naveen, the medical store owner, had no plans in selling masks. But it all worked out because of the demand. Managing the store for approximately 2.5 years, no one was more aware of us and our college lives than him. Students buying medicines from him daily was what concerned him about our health, and he did everything in his power to provide us help with the same.
