The county seat is Franklin, and also includes the towns of Greenwood, Trafalgar, Bargersville, Prince’s Lake, Nineveh, Edinburgh, New Whiteland, and Whiteland. FUN FACT LOCAL > HISTORY Two Cent and Three Notch Road Originally a cow path, Two Cent Road became a muddy road and charged a 2-cent toll. It angled southwest across a wilderness trail made by Indians who marked it by slashing three notches in tall trees. Area settlers used the road, now State Road 135, to drive their sheep, hogs and cattle to northern markets. BARGERSVILLE The town of Bargersville began in 1850 with 150 residents. It started out with a general store, a post office, a church and a school. In 1908, D.W. Rapp decided to open a grain elevator, spurring an era of growth for the community. Today, the town boasts over 7700 residents. EDINBURGH FRANKLIN Edinburgh was the first settlement in the county in Founded in 1822 and named after Benjamin Frank- 1820 led by John Campbell.
