Brazil 2014EnglandEngland’s squad has plenty of talented youngplayers with the quality to make an impactbut they’ve been handed a tough group and,as in previous tournaments, being able toretain possession may prove a real problemmade worse by the Brazilian climate. With only one holding midfielder (do wereally need 3 goalkeepers?) selected in thesquad Steven Gerrard’s presence is going tobe absolutely crucial. His leadership for theyoung players and ability to shield the backfour will go a long way to determiningwhether England can make it out of thegroup. If they are able to make it do this theyshould be rewarded with a winnable 2ndround game and making it to the quarterfinals would be a good achievement for thecurrent group of players. The mostimportant thing for the team is for some oftheir young players to step-up to theinternational stage and show that they canbe relied upon in the years to come.Whatever results occur in Brazil it is sure tobe a festival of football that will becelebrated by fans of the Beautiful Gameacross the world and that is exactly as itshould be.
