Message from Deputy Commissioner’s Desk I am immensely pleased to know that K V Adnal is going to publish it’s e-Vidyalaya Patrika which will be linguistic as well as artistic also. Creativity is being showcased by the most talented students and staff. COVID 19 has provided a blank canvas to students on which they have tried to splash colours of their thoughts. : On-line teaching was almost unheard of. Now students are getting time to unleash their creativity. Their travel time has been saved. Even their engagement in online classes is less than their routine school time. Teachers and students are trying to cope with the situation. Our teachers are trying to give their best. Some articles contributed by them, are thought provoking. i feel that they are also getting time to express their creativity while they continue working from their homes. Their contributions will act as light houses to the student and community. Principal’s message Dear students, Rightly has it been said, “Education is not learning facts, but the training of mind to think.” Albert Einstein. Schooling is our first contact with the world, a period of joy& healthy completion of learning. It is neither a process limited to school and colleges only, nor does it end with the completion of one’s school career. As the Principal of the school, I feel honored and privileged to be a part of an educational institution where every stakeholder is a learner and every day is an opportunity to learn and discover. We look at ourselves as a community of learner, where everyone learns including our teachers, parents& staff. I believe in upholding high standards with an absolute commitment to strive to understand and improve the educational process, using team strategies, while wholly centering on student achievement. Our school takes pride in itself on the “multiple learning outcomes” curricular and co-curricular programs available to our students on the highly positive attitude and behavior of our students and on the constant focus by our professional staff on developing, personalizing and transforming teaching approaches to the best to meet the needs of students. From the Editor’s pen It gives us immense joy and satisfaction to finally publish the e magazine of Kendriya Vidyalaya Andal. Just like the Gods and the Asuras churned the ocean of milk to extract the nectar, we have tried to churn out creativity from this mess of action. A lot of effort has gone into the making of this issue. We hope you enjoy reading the magazine. The best thing about this issue is that it represents the creative side of students to a fair degree-something that we think we all need to reconnect with. The Vidyalaya is no doubt a hub of activities where we try to provide quality education infused with the joy of learning . Students are bundles of joy. They are like matchsticks kept in little boxes .All we need to do is generate that spark that can create wonders in their own special way When students excel it gives us a sense of pride and immense satisfaction. KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA ANDAL ANNuAL REPORT-(2020-2021) “The art of Teaching is the art of assisting discovery” A good teacher is like a candle-it consumes itself to light the way for others. I have a great pleasure in presenting the Annual Report for the session 2020- 21. I took over as Principal of this Vidyalaya on 1st August 2017. I feel blessed and honored to be a part of KV Andal till date Kendriya Vidyalaya Andal is a pace setting institution that caters the educational needs of the children by providing common pattern of education. We strive for excellence and set the pace in the field of school education. Kendriya Vidyalaya Andal, Durgapur was founded in 1987. One of the leading units of KVs is now one of the well reputed Vidyalaya. It is situated in the Workshop Colony, Andal. The Vidyalaya is amidst greenery and scenic beauty. This full bloomed Vidyalaya imparts quality education from class I to XII, with Science stream at + 2 level with single sections in each class. Academic Excellence: The name and reputation of any institution is determined by its performance in both internal and external examinations. In this regard, I am delighted to announce to this august gathering that our board examination results of March 2020-21 has been noteworthy. The pass percentage of Class X and XII is 100% respectively. The merit holders in AISSE March 2021: In AISSE March 2020 Examination, 10 students secured 10 CGPA in class X. The CBSE Board awarded the certificates of merit on the basis of the outstanding performance and obtaining A1 Grade in all the five subjects opted by the candidate. 1

Class I-VIII - 100% pass (to be modified) Class IX - 100% pass Overall result of Class XI - 100% pass Co-Curricular Activities: Co scholastic activities not only groom the inherent talent of the child but also give them an extra edge and confident to move ahead in the competitive world. We are providing ample opportunities to children by organizing a number of inter-house competition in dance, drama, essay-writing, music, poem recitation, story telling, quiz and others. For this purpose, all the children are distributed into four houses namely Subhash, Tagore,Laxmibai and Raman. Opportunities are provided not only at the school level but also at regional and national levels. 2
Social Science Exhibition: •Students of this Vidyalaya participated in social science exhibition in cluster level at KV CMERI, Durgapur and KV CRPF, Durgapur where the models were appreciated. The themes of these models were on ‘Swacch Bharat’. Students had whole heartedly participated in Group Song, Group Dance, Solo Song, Solo Dance, English and Hindi Elocution and Debate and Hindi Skit. Science Exhibition: •Students of this Vidyalaya participated in the Jawaharlal Neheru Science, Mathematics and environment exhibition. To arouse and inculcate scientific spirit in the youngsters KV Andal. •With reference to JIGYASA, a student scientist connect programme officially in collaboration with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghathan (KVS). Kendriya Vidyalaya Andal is also sharing the privilege of taking part in the JIGYASA programme that is time to time being held at CSIR CMERI Durgapur where the students along with escort teachers are observing the projects undertaken by CSIR, listening to talks by Scientists interacting with the Director and senior scientists of CSIR CMERI. The sessions had a mission to evoke a sense of Scientific inquisitiveness and motivate them to contribute to the society with their innovative ideas and corrective measures. Sports And Games: This year also, some budding sports persons of our Vidyalaya brought accolades in the various sports competition organized at regional and national level. Dipak Bobonga participated in School games Federation of India in Taekwondo. Four Boys i.e. Dipak Bobonga, Rahul Pandey, Suman Raj and Aniket Kr. Sharma got selected for Taekwondo at KVS National Level. One boy Anshu Paswan got selected for Volleyball,one Student Rahul Paswan got selected for Kho-Kho and one girl Shruti Mondal got selected for KVS National. The Volleyball team (boys) won Bronze Medal at Regional Level sports Meet. Kho- Kho Team boys reached the final level and won silver Medal at Regional Level and our students won 1 Gold Medal and 1 Silver Medal in Taekwondo. Under the Fit India Programme to ensure physical fitness mental strength and emotional equanimity the Vidyalaya has undertaken many Battery Test. Apart from these every day during the Morning assembly a brief session of Yoga is conducted. 3
Celebrations: Celebrations are a part of our K.V Culture. They are the means to promote nationalism, unity and fraternity among children. With this sincere motto we celebrate all the national festivals and national and international days of importance whole heartedly. We observed Plantation Day on 5th September 2020 to promote love for nature among children. Republic day, Independence day were also celebrated in a spectacular way in the school premises to inculcate among the children the spirit of National integration and patriotism. The world is fast changing were every students needs to be equipped with 21st century skills and most importantly learn how to fit into the society with requisite social skills. For this purpose, like every year through Vigilance Awareness week and Safety week celebration children were disseminated with safety norms and social responsibilities. On 25th September we also observed Swach Bharat Abhiyan in our Vidyalaya and surroundings in a befitting manner under the guidance of teachers and we have made it a part of our day to day activities. National Unity Day, National Education Day, Constitution Day all were celebrated in the school premises with great pomp & show. Sanskrit Saptah, Language Week, Hindi Pakhwara were celebrated in true fervor to promote love for subjects like Sanskrit, English & Hindi respectively. Students showcased their creative talents through these programmes. To celebrate the spirit of National Integration and mark the unique symphony of language of our Country the Vidyalaya under Bhasha Sangam initiative provided multilingual exposure to students in Indian languages listed in the viii scheduled of the Constitution of India in which the students and teachers enthusiastically took part. With the mission to inculcate cultural appreciation among children at a young age the programme VIRSA is running in the Vidyalaya where online classes in 14 disciplines including Hindusthani Classical Vocal, Harmonium, Tabla, Carnatic Vocal, Carnatic Violin, Flute, Sitar, Bharatnatyam, Keyboard, Kathak, Guitar, Theatre, Brain Enhancement and Yoga are held. Apart from these Paryatan Parv, Swachhata Pakhwada, Fire Safety week, 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi were also celebrated. 4
CMP Achievements: Rightly has it been said “ The child is the father of man”. In the session 2020-21 following the footstep of the elders the children of primary section zealously participated in CMP cultural & Sports meet that were held in KV Burdwan, KV Asansol & KV CMERI Chittaranjan. Their hard work & dedication brought Laurels for the school. They bagged the 1st position in group song, 1st position in Hindi extempore, 1st position in English extempore, 1st position in Knotting(Boy), 2nd position in Kho-Kho(Boys), 2nd position in High Jump(Boys), 2nd position in Hindi Poem recitation 2nd position in Knotting(Girls), 2nd position in Dancing, 3rd position in Kho-Kho(Girls),3rd position in Kabaddi(Girls),3rd position in High Jump(Girls), 3rd position in Solo Song(Girls),3rd position in English Skit and 3rd position in Knotting(Boys). Scouts & Guides Corner: KV Andal showcases the scouts & guides Corner with an adventurous streak under the guidance of trained scout masters and guide captains. Library Facilities: The Vidyalaya has full-fledged library with 5875 books on different subjects,26 periodicals and magazines and 4 leading News Papers. The library has been upgraded to E-Granthalaya.. Staff Strength: The Vidyalaya has strength of 485 students and 30 sanctioned staff post. Six PGTs i.e. PGT Hindi, PGT Chemistry, PGT Maths, PGT English, PGT Biology, PGT Physics and one post for PGT Computer Sc. lying vacant in place of which a contractual teacher has been recruited ,eight TGTs i.e. TGT Science, TGT SST, TGT English, TGT Sanskrit, TGT P&HE, TGT Library, TGT AE, TGT WE and one post for TGT Maths lying vacant where a contractual teacher has been recruited, Seven primary teachers, one Computer Instructor and one Dance Instructor, three sub staff, one SSA and 1 post for JSA lying vacant. Mr. Ranjit Chakraborty, PRT Music, superannuated on 21st December 2019. We feel proud and privileged to have a fresh team of newly recruited teachers through the central government recruitment policy and hopeful with their excellence and untiring efforts the Vidyalaya is going to achieve the zenith of success. 5
“Teachers are also learners” KVS provides opportunities for different training, workshops and in-service- courses for teachers to keep them updated with new teaching methods and technological advancements in school education. Mr. Amit Kumar PGT (Chem) attended the training programme ‘Free Being Me and ABC’ at KV No.-2 Salt Lake Kolkata, two days workshop for PGT(Chem) at KV, Chittaranjan active learning in Chemistry at KV New Boingaiga on and Scout Master Course at KV, Chittaranjan. Shri Binod Kumar TGT(SST) attended in-service programme at ZIET Mysore, awakened Citizen Programme for class IX at Ramkrishna Centre, Kolkata and Training for Result Improvement for Class IX and X at IIM,JOKA Kolkata. Mr. Ramesh Kumar Yadav TGT Biology attended two days AWAKENED CITIZEN Programme at Ramakrishna Mission Kolkata to help students of our Vidyalaya to develop moral values and ethics. Two days orientation program on NCSC at KV OF Dumdum. Md.Shamsher Alam, PRT attended 3days workshop on communication skills at ZIET Bhubneshwar. Mr. Pawan Kumar Sharma attended 7days Basic Cub Master course at K.V.Chittranjan and 10 days induction course at K.V. Chittranjan2 days workshop for enhancement of teaching skills in science at KV O F Dumdum. Teacher’s Achievement: Shri Gautam Biswas PGT-Biology and Mrs.Indrani Dash PGT-English achieved highest P.I. KV Andal is moving ahead with confident and steady steps with the co-operation of each parent, active involvement of our enthusiastic children and staff members, inspiration from our mentors Smt..P.B.Usha,Deputy Commissioner,KVS RO Kolkata, Smt. Sangita Roy, Dr. Siharan Bose & Mr. Sreekumar MN,Assistant Commissioners, Chairman Shri Kaushik Dutta, the esteemed members of the VMC. We pay our sincere gratitude to them. CONSERVE NATURE Imagine being a small animal. You’ve just moved into your new house beneath the perfect trees along with your siblings, cooking around you, see nothing but green forest and know you can find beauty of food and live happily with your family. But suddenly you hear a loud sound that you haven’t heard before and then a thunderous crash. One by one the trees are being cut down by people and yours is next in no time. That forest has no trees left and your family and you have no place to go. Seventy percent of plants and animals that live on land, live in forest homes and can’t survive in any other kind of habitat. They can’t just move to a new house or new city like people can. If we don’t stop deforestation more than half of our plant and animal species will become extinct. Rainforests are the oldest ecosystem on Earth and they are impossible to replace. Remember, it took millions of years for rainforests to develop. How can we replenish them with the current rate of deforestation? Here he forms new associates, comes in contact with boys of different temperaments and forms new ideas and habits. It is here that he prepares him for the stage of life. So the right type of education school is for great importance for him. My father took me to the headmaster’s office and got me admitted to the school. My class-teacher was very gentle. He encouraged me and treated me kindly. I felt a bit nervous in the new environment. The boy looked at me with wonder and smiled. The bell for Interval rang. The boys rushed out of the classroom. Some of them gathered round me. I had a novel experience. The last bell went at 2:10 p.m. in the afternoon. All the boys felt very happy. I also took my bag and hurried home. If I met a Genie for a day How lucky Alladin was! He had a Genie to fulfill all his dreams. With the help of the Genie, he became a rich man and married a princess and lived happily ever after! Suppose I also met a Genie! Anything is possible in the world. I would not ask the Genie to make me rich or find a beautiful prince for me. I have better things to do in life. I would ask Genie to make me very intelligent better than Einstein so that I could please my teachers with my good performance. My second wish would be that the Genie takes me round the world. I would go to the space without space suit or shuttle. I would visit moon, planet Mars and stunt the world with the scientific information. My last wish would be to discover the medicines for the incurable diseases. I want everybody to lead a happy, adventurous and health life. I don’t like sad faces around me! Indian Defense Army Indian Defense Forces are the military forces of the Republic of India. It consists of three professional uniformed services: The Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air force. Additionally, the Indian Defense Army are supported by paramilitary organization and various underserviced commands and institutions such as strategic forces command, the Andaman and Nicobar command and the integrated defense staff. The President of India is the supreme commander of the Indian Defense Army. Indian Defense Army is under the control of the Ministry of Defense of the Government of India. It is the world’s second largest military force and has the world’s largest volunteer Army. Indian Defense Army is ranked fourth in the world. There are 1561 female army officer in Indian Army, 1594 female officers in Indian Air force followed by 699 in Indian Navy. There are less than 100 BSF women soldiers on guards in the sector which faces ceasefire violation. Indian women Army Officer show their dangerous power on the field of war to the enemy. They are living extraordinary life in Defense Army. The Indian army well know how to teach the lesson to enemy and behave with them. There are more than 45000 personnel including 7000 officers above. Minimum height required to join Indian Army is 152 cm and for female 150 cm. They are the big lover of ‘Bharat Mata’ and they sacrifice their lives for her protection. Till the last breath they fight and show the power of Indian Army. In war field they forget their families and their children, they know only one thing “Bharat Mata ki Jai”. They are the true patriot. They roar like a lion in war field and they are lions. They have many slogans which is very patriotic. The life of an army man is not a easy task. The sacrifice their life only for us, so it is our responsibility to respect them. In Indo-Pak war our 52 soldiers are missing and India claims that our soldiers are in the jails of Pakistan. They are great and we all Indian salute them “Indian Air Force” this is the most intelligent, quick and dangerous force. They are like a ‘Eagle’. There are 12550 officers and 142529 Airmen the life of Indian Air force officers and Airman is the extraordinary life. Recently, a Wing Commander, “Abhinandan Varthman”, showed his extraordinary bravery in Pakistan. Pakistan captured him only for 60 hours. He crashed F-16 Aircraft of Pakistan with the help of MIG-21 in the dog fight. The whole world were astonished because the MIG-21 is traditional aircraft and F-16 is advance aircraft, so it is a honor for India. When he came back to India then a singer, “Pawan Singh” sang a song “Abhinandanka Abhinandanhai”. And we all, Indian were happy to have him back. Indian Navy is one of the part of Indian Armed force, there are 67228 personnel and 137 ships and approx 235 aircraft, their motto is “Sham no Varunah” chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) is Karambir Singh.
