We speak to co-owners: Lloyd Booker and Karen D’Oliveira about why and how they have created this concept. One of Oliveira’s vintage furniture items mid- restoration The concept for Oliveira was borne from our own frustrations at the lack of choice in East Algarve for high-quality, style led furniture. We felt there was an exciting opportunity to offer furniture suited to the contemporary, yet historic style of the properties here in the East. The first decision we made was by far the most important... and challenging! There is a growing trend to mix vintage furniture and decor with new and, this is something we believed could work fantastically here. We both love period Portuguese furniture but acknowledge that this is not perhaps as popular as it once was. So, with our respective backgrounds in art and design, we set about employing a strategy of renovating quality items of old furniture, turning them into what we have branded ‘Vintage Chic’. The store is within the former location of Karen’s other business, Tavira D’artes Art Gallery so it already has a creative pedigree.
