STRIVE SPRING 2022 EDITION WIB BARUCH COLLEGE COLLEGIATE ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN IN BUSINESS

Editors' As we all celebrate the end of yet another wonderful semester, I am feeling excited to showcase the Spring edition of WIB's semi-annual magazine, STRIVE! The entire Public Relations Committee has worked tirelessly to put together an incredible magazine for our members, alumna, and colleagues. This semester has brought the return of in-person tabling, large-scale events like the Pearls of Wisdom Leadership Conference and Pink and Denim Day, and the continuation of our incredible events. My team and I are extremely excited to showcase all these events in STRIVE. I face a bittersweet feeling as we celebrate the publication of STRIVE - pride for the beautiful magazine that my team has put together and sadness that our time working on this piece is coming to an end. I want to extend my immense gratitude to the entire PR committee for their hard work and dedication throughout the semester. I am incredibly fortunate to have such a strong team of women by my side. A big thank you to the E-board and board, whose constant support has allowed STRIVE to reach the height it has today. With your guidance, we're able to continue to grow and develop as individuals and as a team. And lastly, thank you to all our members that have made this semester special. We hope that you enjoy flipping through STRIVE. Here’s to another semester of strong women taking power and empowering others! Nidhi Shah Nidhi Shah Vice President - Public Relations 1

Letter from the President Dearest Women in Business, I can say with confidence that each and every day of this past year has been full of thrill, hard work, creativity, development, and togetherness, because of the inspiring women that you are. I am beyond proud of you for pushing yourselves out of your comfort zone, dedicating yourselves to growing and uplifting one another, and setting high standards for this organization to bring it to the level it is at today, all while maintaining the amicable culture we have established. During my time as VP of Professional Events last year, I analyzed areas of the organization that I admired and aspects that could benefit from changes and additions. Taking notes on my ideas and building a vision for the organization, grew my passion for becoming the Executive President immensely. I am proud to say that this year, we were able to change and implement a total of 33 initiatives, turning my vision into a reality, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity you provided me with to serve you and improve future generations of the organization. 3

Additionally, here are some outstanding statistics for the year – we have hosted a total of 102 events, co-sponsored 79 events, and inducted 68 new half-year and full-year members in addition to our experienced members. Through it all, we have exemplified and furthered our mission and core values. I have seen such growth in all of you this year as you have achieved a wide range of accomplishments. We are an organization that represents unique, resilient, empowering, and powerful leaders that showcase the talent and strength of what it means to be a woman. From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank you for the opportunity to trust and allow me to have served as your Executive President this past year. It has been an honor, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my remarkable Board members, incredible Executive Assistants, all committee members, Office of Student Life, Alumnae, USG, corporate partners, family, and friends. A special thank you to my biggest supporter who I lost on the very first day of school this year, my father – I owe you everything and you continue to inspire me every single day. Congratulations on conquering this year with full force and energy – we did it, and it wouldn’t have been possible without all of your contributions. As you step into your future endeavors, always remember to be curious, make your mark, and pay it forward. Yours truly, Shaurya Taparia Shaurya Taparia Executive President of Women in Business 2021-2022 4

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO MANIFESTING Manifestation is about using actions, emotions, beliefs, and habits to create your own reality. Manifestation is something we’re doing all day every day, whether we’re aware of it or not. According to the law of attraction, what energy you put into the world is what you get. Therefore, the practice of manifestation is just about being more intentional with how we’re creating our own lives. Manifestation is less about wanting and more about creating, knowing that you are the creator of your own life. Manifesting is designed to be empowering – you choose what you want in life, then you take the time to actively think about and put into action the steps to get there.

IMPORTANT LESSONS LEARNED DURING UNDERGRAD From The Business Insider Time management and how to ask for help Balancing acedemics with other responsibilities can be challenging but the Business Insider says seeking guidance is an important component of growth. Help can be from teammates, friends, or professors. The importance of teamwork and friendship Collaboration and teamwork in the classroom or in extracurriculars go way beyond a grade. It is a vital skill that recruiters are looking for. Employers are looking for someone that can work well with others to achieve a goal. Don't put limits on yourself It's often our attitude that is the greatest barrier to reaching our potential. YOU are your greatest advocate Find an environment that fits you! If you're passionate about something, seek advice, resources and guidance to make your dream work! Everything really does happen for a reason This may be the most cliched lesson in the book, but reflecting on college experience gives one a very tangible way to think about cause and effect, and to realize how day-to-day life, with its mixture of both uncertainty and joy, can ultimately lead to positive lessons.

The Secret Behind Our Coffee Addiction 1. Coffee is Extremely Healthy Coffee beans contain a lot of antioxidants, which are substances that help get rid of harmful oxidizing agents inside the body. Antioxidants reduce the risk of developing severe diseases. 2. Coffee is Never Too Close For Comfort A hot cup of coffee can keep you warm during the winter, while an iced coffee helps you cool down in the summer, thus ensuring your comfort throughout the seasons. Moreover, just the strong smell of ground coffee beans or coffee itself is enough to put most people at ease and in a good mood, especially if they have positive associations with drinking coffee. 3. Coffee Promotes Social Interaction There’s a reason why there's always a million people hanging out in Starbucks or any other coffee shop in the world. Everyone enjoys chatting with a friend over a nice cup of coffee. Going out for coffee serves as a excuse for people to spend more time with each other face to face, which is a great alternative to staring at a screen all day.
