NETWORKING COMPONENTS

Networking Components : Computer networks components comprise both physical parts as well as the software required for installing computer networks, both at organizations and at home. Types of Networking Components:

Network Card [NIC] Network card is an expansion card for a PC desktop or laptop computer. It provides a hardware connection that enables the device to be plugged into the connection may be via either Wi-Fi or fast Ethernet.

Hub A hub is a physical layer networking device which is used to connect multiple devices in a network. They are generally used to connect computers in a LAN. A hub has many ports in it. A computer which intends to be connected to the network is plugged in to one of these ports.

Switch A switch works similar to a hub. However, a network switch connects devices within a network and transmits the message from the source computer to the destination computer only by using physical address without broadcasting the message on the entire network.

Modem Modem. Modem is a device that enables a computer to send or receive data over telephone or cable lines. The data stored on the computer is digital whereas a telephone line or cable wire can transmit only analog data. The main function of the modem is to convert digital signal into analog and vice versa.

Router A router is a network device that connects two or more networks. It is commonly used to connect a computer or a network to the Internet. Lines from different networks are connected to a router.

Cables & Connectors Networking cables are networking hardware used to connect one network device to other network devices or to connect two or more computers to share printers, scanners etc.
