THE STORY BEHINDtHE1.2 LB HOODIE2016 marks the 10-year anniversary of an important product in the GASP Heritage: The 1.2 Lb. Hoodie. This item is a GASP fanfavorite and defining product for the brand. In 2005, we began to work with the GASP athlete team to develop their ultimatehoodie, and the 1.2 Lb. Hoodie was created.During that period, we had a limited-edition hoodie that was pretty heavy to keep clean and wear out and about. Our GASP athlete team always re-duty, and our friends, fans and customers raved it. RON PARTLOW SITS DOWN WITHDANIEL “BEAST” ATTERHAGENKnown as “Beast”, Daniel Atterhagen has done a lot to earn that name. He is a huge man, standing 6’4”, weighing 260 pounds.However, his size also comes with an extensive martial arts and strength training background. It’s no mistake he’s known by thatname. Now, professional wrestler, Daniel carries the size and the personality to make it to the big leagues. I was happy to chat toDaniel and find out more about the big man, and how he got involved with GASP. Hey Daniel, great to meet you. It’s very interesting that GASP has added you to the team. -Yes, I’m glad they have branched out and are open to giving guys like me a chance. Lots of hardcore guys who don’t compete love the GASP brand, so I’m happy to represent without being a bodybuilder like Branch War- ren or Guy Cisternino. I have a different look, different fans, etc. However, I’m still hardcore and feel I fit into the brand well. Tell me about your background. I hear you have some roots in martial arts from when you were younger? -Yes, when I was a kid I got into Judo. Practiced that for 10 years, and became very proficient. It’s an extremely athletic thing to do. You need to be strong, fast and have great balance and coordination. It set me up for future pursuits. What followed Judo? -Well, then it got very serious, as I jumped into MMA around 2008. I practiced that for about 8 years. I even had a fight with Alex Gustafsson, known as “The Mauler”. Some very serious fans may know who that is. He won the match in a decision. It was a good battle. Wow, that’s over 18 years of martial arts experience. At that point, it’s pretty much in you for life hey? -Oh ya, I still have the skills, even though I’m a lot bigger now. You don’t forget that many years of practice. Plus I stay very agile from all the ring work I do now. So what came after MMA? Did you start wrestling then? -No, not at that point. In 2009 I got into Strongman competitions and did that for a couple years. Judo was hard, MMA was harder…..but strong- man was extremely rough on the body. Had some shoulder injuries and had to change my focus. 46
So that’s when the wrestling began?-Haha, well kind of. I tried out for the Swedish version of American Glad-iators and made the squad. I was known as “Beast”, so that’s when thename was born. They dressed me like a caveman and everything. I wason the show for one season and it was a blast. Unfortunately, they gotsome new producers after that, and they changed a lot of things, so Iwasn’t re-signed for the following season. THAT’S when the wrestling en-tered my mind as a serious option. I just didn’t pursue it for several yearsafterwards.So what did you do in between the Gladiators and starting to wrestle?-Well, I did a bunch of acting. I was in six movies, six TV shows, and a bunchof commercials. One that got seen by everyone in Sweden was for scratchtickets, those lottery tickets you buy at the store. It was pretty funny. Itwas in 2015 that I actually started to wrestle. I kept the name “BEAST,”but without the caveman gimmick. Just me being a big bearded, hardcorebeast. I’ve been wrestling all over the place for an indie promotion. I alsodid the music video “Hammer High” for a band called Hammerfall. It looksamazing, and you can find it on youtube. Over 1.2 million views.So what’s the future hold in regards to wrestling?-Well, hopefully some big things. I have a match coming up in Newcastleon September 17 for ICW. That will be a big one for me. Every wrestlerwants to make the WWE, and I have spoken to them, and gone to thetryouts in London, so we will see what happens. Some things I can’t sayuntil they are for sure. Bad luck in the wrestling world.Who was your favorite wrestler back in the day?-Goldberg for sure. That was my era, and he was the man!Do you have any kids? Do they like wrestling?-I have a 14-year-old daughter….haha no she doesn’t like wrestling. Sillystuff! Of course, kids are either going to love what dad does or hate it.How do you train nowadays?-I do a blend of traditional strength training, with some bodybuilder pumpstuff, and a bit of strongman to keep my power at a max. Then lots of ringwork, of course, to stay agile and skilled. One thing I can say without adoubt is that pro wrestling is harder on the body in general than anythingelse I’ve ever done. It’s worse than Judo or MMA and even worse thanstrongman. Wrestling really is abusive and I work hard to stay healthy andflexible enough to avoid injury.Any final words to the GASP fans reading this?-Yes, thank you to the GASP family for taking me on board and letting merep the company doing what I do. I feel like I fit in with the hard workingcrew they have built up around the world. We all have our own personal-ities and our own niche. Guys like @realworld_tactical, @falby1, and ofcourse yourself.
