CHAIRMANS WELCOME / CROESO’R CADEIRYDD President Good afternoon, we extend a warm welcome to Welshpool and Den- Dai Davies bigh for today’s matches. Our 1st XV entertains Welshpool in what is our first home league game of the season. It’s no small coincidence Chairman that almost 50 years ago to the day, Newtown RFC reformed and James Holloway played their first game against Welshpool on November 21st, 1971, on that day we sadly lost, hopefully we can put the record straight in 2021 [email protected] and get a win! Secretary For every home game to the end of the season we are celebrating a Neil Farrington decade at Newtown Rugby Club. This Saturday we are very pleased to welcome back the ‘70’s legends’ for their reunion. 50 years ago our [email protected] 70’s legends reformed the club and brought rugby back to Newtown, we all owe them a huge debt of gratitude for their hard work and com- Treasurer mitment over the last half century. Today they are also our Match Day Michelle Jones Sponsors, thank you to you all and we hope you have a fantastic day! [email protected] Newtown Youth entertain Denbigh in the North Wales Youth league this afternoon. Like the 1st XV they haven’t played much rugby during Vice Chairman the Autumn Internationals, today will be about kicking off the cobwebs Bob Jones and getting back into action. This team has a huge amount of potential and I’m sure they will go well today. [email protected] During the month of November we have joined forces with Llanid- Clubhouse/Community loes and Welshpool rugby clubs, growing moustaches to support Alan Owen 'Movember' while also raising funds for Ponthafren, a mental health charity which covers Mid-Wales. [email protected] This Saturday we welcome the staff of Ponthafren to the club, they Head of Rugby will be raising money with a donation bucket and a raffle, please stop Gavin Randell to chat with them and give generously to help such a good cause. The issue of men’s mental health is never very far away, we don’t have to [email protected] look far to see the effects when men are unable to talk about their problems. It is very poignant that today, our first home game since a Fixtures Secretary young man and a former junior player of the club took his own life. We Derek Murray send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Liam Irvine; I would like to ask everyone to join the players to pay our respects in a [email protected] minutes silence before kick-off. All that remains for me to say is enjoy your day, rugby is all about friendship so why not call in the clubhouse for a chat. We are putting on a special offer before and after the game, a locally cooked pie from Evans Café plus a pint for £6, with a donation going towards Pon- thafren. See you in the clubhouse and safe journey home to all our visitors. James Holloway, Chairman

PONTHAFREN—SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH PONTHAFREN is a mental health charity based in Powys with centres in both Newtown and Welshpool and an outreach in Llanidloes, our aim is \"to provide a caring community, offering support to those in need and to promote posi- tive mental health and well-being for all.\" Pon- thafren has been working with the three local Rugby clubs to Promote Positive Mental Health in our community, and we thank Newtown for inviting us along today. We have seen many tragedies in our community recently, in part, possibly because men don’t feel they can talk to others about how they are feeling. Ponthafren has been working with the Rugby clubs to end the stigma that stops men speaking out and promote where and how support can be ac- cessed. Members of all three local rugby clubs have been growing moustaches and supporting 'Movember' while also raising funds for Ponthafren. Ponthafren offers services such as Counselling, an Online CBT programme working alongside one of our practitioners, our one to one recovery project which offers practical support tailored to the individual, life skill courses such as confidence building, anger management amongst many others. You can make a referral using the QR Code below: Or you can call Ponthafren on 01686 621586 or email: ad- [email protected] during office hours or call our Out of Hours Helpline 07508 709 338 (Monday to Friday, 5pm - 9pm, Saturday & Sunday, 12pm - 5pm) It’s been brilliant seeing the three teams work together to raise awareness of mens mental health, and we are looking forward to watching the match today! Good luck to both teams!
