Dr. Roland Hernandez, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roland Hernandez was named Corpus Christi Independent School District’s Superintendent in 2014. Dr. Hernandez came to Corpus Christi from the Waco Independent School District, where he served as Superintendent from 2006-2010. He served as Deputy Superintendent of the Tyler Independent School District from 2003-2006 and the Belton Independent School District from 2001-2002. Other campus and district-level experiences include teaching, coaching and campus-level administrative positions in the Spring Branch and Angleton Independent School Districts. In addition to being a school administrator, Dr. Hernandez served as Administrative Assistant to the Associate Commissioner in the Division of Accountability at the Texas Education Agency, Program Coordinator for the University of Texas at Austin’s prestigious Charles A. Dana Center, and State Director of the National Assessment of Educational Progress for the Texas Education Agency and US Department of Education. Dr. Hernandez earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin as a Cooperative Superintendency Program (CSP) Fellow with an emphasis in Public Affairs and Social Work, a master’s degree from the University of Houston at Clear Lake, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas State University. Dr. Hernandez is the current President of the Texas School Alliance and is an elected member of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Legislative Council. He also serves on the Texas Academic Decathlon Board, a member of the Texas Urban Council, a Board member for the Texas Association of Latin American Superintendents (TALAS), a Board member for Citizens for Educational Excellence, a Board member for the American Heart Association, a member of the TASA Member Outreach Committee, serves on the Texas High School Athletic Directors Superintendent Advisory Council, and is the current Chair for ESC Region 2 TASB Study Group. Recent honors and recognitions include being named the Region 2 Superintendent of the Year and one of five state finalist for 2020 Texas Superintendent of the Year. He was named a Community Leader of the Year by CC LULAC and selected as one of Nueces County's Most Influential Hispanics by the American GI Forum. Dr. Hernandez and his wife, Dr. Cynthia Hernandez, have two children, Lauren and Leyton, both current educators.

Kimberley Donaldson James Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Kimberley James was appointed Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the CCISD school district in April 2021. As Deputy Superintendent, she leads a team of dedicated individuals who are committed to providing all students with an engaging learning environment that promotes creativity, innovation, problem solving, communications, and technology experiences. She believes that developing healthy relationships with parents and other stakeholders is vital to ensuring that students are academically and emotionally nurtured and supported. Before being appointed Deputy Superintendent, she served as CCISD Chief of Staff, where she tasked with helping district departments and campuses excel. She was heavily involved with state accountability, bond initiatives and strategic planning and worked with community leaders to ensure CCISD continued to be a strong partner in Corpus Christi’s forward momentum. Mrs. James joined CCISD in 2014, serving as the founding principal of Veterans Memorial High School. In addition to her experience at Veterans Memorial, Mrs. James has 21 years of solid and proven experience in educational administration including seven years as principal of Rockport-Fulton High School as well as other elementary, middle and high schools. In 2016, she was named Corpus Christi PTA Principal of the Year and in 2015, she was honored as Region 2 Principal of the Year. Mrs. James holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State University, a Master degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin University. She is currently working toward her doctorate in Educational Leadership at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. Mrs. James solid leadership skills and extensive experience throughout the K-12 systems, have prepared her to provide “best in class” service to our very own CCISD.

Karen Griffith Deputy Superintendent for Business Support Services Karen Griffith was named Deputy Superintendent of Business Support Services in July 2019. Prior to joining CCISD, she served as assistant superintendent of business and support services at San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District. Prior roles also include serving as assistant superintendent for support services for Kingsville Independent School District. Ms. Griffith has 20 years’ of school district experience. Mrs. Griffith has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in business administration, both from Texas A&M University Kingsville. The Deputy Superintendent of Business Support Services oversees the administrative departments of the district such as Human Resources, Food Services, Budget and Finance, Purchasing, Facilities and Operations, Transportation, and Technology..
