THE W Retreat, Turks & Caicos The Turks and Caicos Islands have always been known for its beaches, its beauty, and it waters, which is why it is easily described as “beautiful by nature”. Vista Development has embraced that beauty and the natural amenities the island, and most of all, the development property has to offer with its coral reef ideally located steps away from Vista’s beach. Turks and Caicos has also been known to be an “upscale” marketplace, with many ultra high end resorts and high end villas. But what is missing in the market is a more contemporary, more modern, more sexy, or Carribbean Chic, which is why Vista and Starwood Hotel Group have come together to bring to the island one of its first branded properties with the W-Retreat. The following pages are meant to describe Vista’s development vision and the W-Retreat concept. The Turks and Caicos Islands has gone through its challenges over the past years, but the island is getting a new life and a new heartbeat. Vista has always followed the W brand, but Vista has felt the brand has gone through some challenges of its own. Which is why, Vista’s vision is to bring the re-found island and the newly found W-Retreat Brand to the North American Continent by creating a standard of maturity, taste, class and of course the W energy and vitality that will allow you to escape, which will set the standard to all future W- Retreats.
THE W HISTORY W Hotels was launched in 1998 with the W New York, a conversion of the old Doral Inn hotel at 541 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. The first few W hotels were mainly conversions of existing hotels already within the Starwood group. The W expanded quickly in the United States over the next decade and now focuses expansion efforts abroad. W opened its first hotel in Europe in Istabul in May 2008, located in the renovated Akaretler Row Houses, a group of historic structures built in the 1870s. The W Barcelona hotel was W's first in Western Europe and opened in October 2009. It features a futuristic design by architect Ricardo Bofill in the shape of a sail and, standing 26 stories tall, it can be seen from all over the city. Combining the personality and style of an independent hotel with reliability, consistency and attentive service of a major business hotel, W Hotels has redefined the luxury and design-led lifestyle hotel experience.
