It’s also the month I start making my ‘Room List’, which basically involves going around the house writing notes on what areas need decorating, fixing Karen or just a little refresh – and I’ll admit that some of these projects stay on the list until the following year! The big idea A wood-panelled splashback adds a contemporary twist to a kitchen, and the rich tones will add warmth to a monochrome scheme. Include white worktops and metallic accents for an industrial vibe, completing the look with vibrant, colourful wallpaper to add interest A small development of houses within easy reach of the major roads out of town then caught their eye – the only problem being that the house they liked the most hadn’t been built yet. So the couple took the plunge and made the decision to buy off plan. ‘We were determined to get a detached property after so many years of apartment living, and there was a lovely spot at the end of a cul de sac with a good garden, which was perfect,’ Cotty explains. For many people this would be too much of a leap, but Cotty knew it was a good option. ‘My day job, ironically, is as a sales adviser on new-build projects, so I had confidence in knowing what was possible and how it all works.’ As the site was being built by a small developer rather than a large company, Cotty and Caine were able to have more input with their choice of fixtures and fittings, from the kitchen units to the bathroom tiles. ‘With a big developer you don’t usually get to choose beyond the set options given at the start, and if you really
