“Why start the 2019 Toolbox Challenge? “I often hear businesses say that school leavers are not fully prepared when entering the world of work with very little traditional engineering knowledge. I visited a local school and was shocked to see that it had very little in the way of engineering equipment and what it did have was hidden away, gathering dust. If pupils are not given the opportunity to do engineering in the classroom, how can they possibly be expected to consider it as an exciting future career? Philip Mason - Production Director forTidyco The aim of the 2019 Toolbox Challenge is to create a basic engineering module that can be piloted in one Derby school with a view to rolling out to more as the project evolves.

TOOL BOX The 2019 Tidyco Toolbox Challenge will see engineering students from Derby’s 2019Roundhouse Technical and Professional Skills College workCaHloAngLsiLdeENstuGdeEnts from the Derby Manufacturing University Technical College (UTC) to design and build a sheet metal bending machine capable of manufacturing a toolbox. The creations will be judged by a panel of collaborative supporters whereby winning students will receive a set of engineering tools. All functional machines will be provided to Littleover Community School who have agreed to pilot the scheme. The goal of this initiative is to encourage the younger generation into engineering.
