You learned that a phrase is a group of words used much like a single word. Notice the underlined phrases in the sentences below. Sometimes we can avoid using too many words when speaking and writing by using compoundsubjects. We can combine two sentences by using a compound subject and changing thepredicate to fit in. See how this works in these sentences. 1. (a) Maria collects legends. (b)Josefa collects legends, too. 2. Maria and Josefa collect legends. What do you notice in sentence 2?
