Youth Commission Chairman Bishop Joseph Pandarasseril BISHOP JOSEPH PANDARASSERIL You are strong, and the word of God abides in you and you have overcome the wicked one. 1 John 2:14 I am happy to know that the Youth Apostolate of Syro- Malabar Eparchy of Melbourne is publishing a newsletter and my congratulations and prayerful wishes to all who are behind this mode of connectivity. Youth are the present for the future, “you are strong, and the word of God abides in you and you have overcome the wicked one,” (1 John 2:14). As baptised individuals, you are young missionaries in the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Melbourne as students and professionals. By reading and doing the word of God you will be like wise men collaborating to build the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Melbourne upon rock. (cf. Matthew 7:24) I pray that “Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith and that you being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3: 17-18) My dear young friends, by using your talents, individual and collective use of quality time and space for the service of the Church and Society, “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) May God Bless you all! +Mar Joseph Pandarasseril Chariman, Syro-Malabar Youth Commission PAGE | 04

Bishop Bosco Puthur Bishop's Message BISHOP BOSCO PUTHUR Dear Young Friends,  I was fascinated by the  Latin  name 'VOX' given to the Newsletter of our Youth Apostolate. It is a very meaningful, powerful, and indeed, challenging title.    The most obvious Biblical reference of  this  Latin  word (vox  clmantis  in  deserto  - voice crying in the wilderness) is to the book of Isaiah 40:3 and the four Gospels: Matthew 3:3; Mark  1:3; Luke 3:4 and John 1:23. They refer  to the testimony of John the Baptist. \"The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Make ready the road by which the Lord is coming, and make straight the paths which He must travel!' The emergence of John was like the sudden sounding of the voice of God.  In John the prophetic voice  from God  spoke again.  John  fearlessly denounced evil.  John  urgently summoned men to righteousness.  John  assiduously  prepared  the way for the Lord.  John  was the voice calling men to higher things. He not only rebuked evil, he also set before men the good. John came out of the desert as a man of God. John came to men only after he had undergone years of tireless, prayerful and ascetic preparation by God. John  pointed beyond himself, to Jesus the Messiah. John was not only a light to illumine the world, a voice to rebuke sin; he was also a signpost to God. It was not himself he wished men to see; he wished to prepare them for the one who was to come.  John’s aim was  not to focus men's eyes on his own cleverness, but on the majesty of God.    Like John, to be the voice of God is a  challenge to  every youth called to follow Jesus. Let each one of us be the voice of God, a voice that leads to Jesus. YOUTH APOSTOLATE SYRO-MALABAR EPARCHY OF ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE, MELBOURNE Youth Apostolate is the communion of youth groups, movements, ministries and initiatives of our Syro-Malabar parishes and missions in Australia. Youth Apostolate is for all teens, youth, young families and young couples who belong to the Eparchy who are studying in Grade 9 to Generation Y (Millennials). SM TEENS MINISTRY Individuals in Grade 9 to under 18. SMYM Individuals between the ages of 18 to 30 (unmarried). YOUNG COUPLES & YOUNG FAMILIES Married couples under the age of 35. MINISTRY GOALS INVITE & IGNITE (LEARN) TO KNOW JESUS Encourage young people to have a deeper encounter experience. INVOLVE & INTEGRATE (LOVE) TO LOVE JESUS Empower young people to be a disciple and make disciples. Syro-Malabar Youth Movement It was one of our Eparchy’s biggest dreams to bring all the Syro-Malabar youth together to preserve our unique traditions and provide a platform for young people to sustainably grow in Christ in this great southern land. Ever since the very first gathering of parish leaders from all over the country at the Youth Leaders’ Summit back in May 2018, the  Syro-Malabar Youth Movement of Australia with the blessings of His Grace Bishop Bosco, has exponentially grown not only in numbers but also in the quality of events and initiatives, social media presence and in the individual ministries where the Syro-Malabar young men and women in Australia can come together for fellowship, learning and spiritual growth.  With the strong leadership of our National Team, together with the support of our Director  Sojin  Sebastian, SMYM Australia has created a strong foundation in this young Eparchy through events such as the UNITE 2018 National Conference, Proclaim 2018/19 Regional Conferences and through its strong presence in the Australian Catholic Youth Festival 2019 in Perth, WA. Above all this, personally, being closely involved with SMYM in the last two years, not only have I been able to grow in this unique faith but also formed a wider network of young people from all around the country who are from similar familial backgrounds and who follow similar spiritual values and virtues as me. I can definitely from the bottom of my heart say that it is a one big Christ-centered family who are always there to support each other. SMYM Syro-Malabar Youth Movement National Team (2020 - 2022) Fifteen fine young leaders were appointed and commissioned as the new National Team for the SMYM Australia for 2020-2022. Through prayer and discernment, seventy odd young people who attended the Youth Leaders’ Summit, carefully chose leaders representing each state. SMYM Syro-Malabar Youth Movement National Team (2018-2020) Following the first Youth Leaders Summit in Melbourne, the first SMYM National Team was elected on the 18th of May 2018. The initial team consisted of ten individuals, with two representatives for each state of Australia. With the growth of SMYM, the team expanded further in the following year to include a few more individuals. Selected after much prayer and intercession by their respective states, and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit this team was responsible for all the national SMYM activities over the two years. There was a constant tug at my heart that was calling My involvement in SMYM Australia,  has played a big me to something more than myself: an unexplainable role in who I am now and has paved the way for my but a growing zeal to serve our Amazing God. Being growth as a follower of Christ and as a member of chosen to serve in the SMYM National Team had been the  Syro-Malabar  Catholic  Church. This journey has God’s way of answering this prayer of mine. With no strengthened my belief in  the  Divine Providence previous leadership experience whatsoever, being and  in  God’s Plan.    I have never considered myself a called to step up to such a position was a testament to natural leader, but I believe that it was God who chose the phrase “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies me to become the first SMYM coordinator and provided the called”. Syro-Malabar Youth Movement \"Oh youth, you can truly celebrate your life in the Church\" St. John Paul II Often, a cliché heard about youth is that youth are useless and careless. My experience taught me that they are immensely useful and careful when trusted and entrusted responsibilities upon them. In fact, they are used less and cared less in the Church and that is the reality. St. Don Bosco said, “If you don’t like the voice of the youth, check how old you are”. Today in Australia, to put our young people in the frontline of all ecclesial activities with which we can make our Eparchy vibrant and young is our uncompromising obligation. Thus, we help our youth to find their particular space in the Church and their voice heard in the Church. A decade back Pope Benedict exhorted priests, “young people must truly be the priority of your pastoral work”. FR. SEBASTIAN MANDAPATHIL ST. MARY'S SYRO-MALABAR PARISH MELBOURNE WEST As a young person, I struggled to form a sense of belonging  within the Church and a personal relationship with God. Like many  young  people, for a very long time my sense of identity was distorted and I simply  couldn’t fit  in.  My mind was  filled  with several unanswered questions and  I couldn’t understand nor accept  certain aspects  in the Bible.  But  as  I grew in faith, my doubts were cleared, and I started to love and know  God on a deeper level, and SMYM played a crucial role.  I started to see God work in my life as I gave more importance to Him and placed Him in the centre of my life. It is so easy to be absorbed into the worldly desires, but when you have experienced Christ and have your eyes set on Him, everything changes:  your whole world, who you are, and your purpose in life. Syro-Malabar Youth Movement Thanks to God Almighty! It’s my pleasure to say that I am one of the animators of SMYM. Many  times  I was inspired by our youth, seeing their sincere involvements, leading prayer services, conducting, coordinating and participating in conferences, ceremonies and different activities in our parish at Perth and other states in Australia. The graceful, pleasant, respectful and reverent way of treating people including priests, elders, and youngsters have attracted me most of the times. The body is the temple for the soul, and the inner beauty of our soul is reflected on the face and in all our actions. Our youth are model to parents and elders as well. As an animator, I am actively involved in guiding and helping the youth. But most of the time I felt like I am being helped to experience their strength in faith and enjoyed the presence of Jesus in them. Some of the youth leaders are very inspiring with their speeches and activities. When attending the youth retreat or catechism retreat as an animator or catechism teacher, I felt refreshed, strengthened, and renewed.  JINI BAIJU ST. JOSEPH SYRO-MALABAR PARISH PERTH I can proudly say that our youth are proactive young  people,  who continuously prove that the future of our Church is in safe hands. It is a blessing that our youth are guided by the Holy Spirit and by His great  providence.  It is  delightful to  see that domestic students and international students come together and are able to integrate their knowledge and talents to create a Christ experience for other young people. I am joyful to see that the SMYM youth are also collaborating internationally, via social media platforms to  evangelise  and create friendships and connections strengthened in Christ.  It is imperative that parents and peer support are  essential for  more youth to join in this great mission to be able to reach out to a wider community. I am sure that our SMYM legends play a vital role among youth and even with parents in regards to spreading the love of God. Syro-Malabar Youth Movement Conducted annually, the PROCLAIM conferences are a one-day program  organised  by the SMYM leadership teams in each state to provide a platform for the Syro- Malabar youth in the parishes/missions to get to know their God, faith, and culture in a closer way. The objectives of the program were to have a deeper encounter experience with Christ, experience the beauty of the  Syro-Malabar Church, and explore the different ways to contribute to the parish and to the wider community through SMYM. Syro-Malabar Youth Movement UNITE is the National Youth Conference of the Syro-Malabar Youth Movement in Australia. In 2018, the first ever conference was held in Melbourne from December 7th-10th, bringing together 400 young Syro-Malabarians across six states and two territories.  The key focal point of the conference was to  provide young people with an opportunity to deepen their relationship with Jesus, to be equipped and empowered to be His disciples in today’s world, and experience and celebrate the uniqueness of the  Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in Australia.  The Holy Father Pope Francis declared 2018 as “Year of Youth” and UNITE was an amazing way to end off the year.  The four-day  conference was packed with  live music, dynamic speakers,  prayer experiences,  Eucharistic celebrations, motivational workshops, explanations about Syro-Malabar traditions and performances. Holy Qurbana was celebrated  every day,  and the youth were lead through adoration  in the evening  to end of the day with an opportunity to encounter Christ.  SMYM National Conference 2018 Come - Connect - Celebrate Christ How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity! Psalms 133:1 As I had the blessing of being the Youth Coordinator for our parish, I was able to witness the immeasurable love and support from our Syro-Malabar Community. This was evident when we hosted our first-ever National Youth Conference ‘UNITE’ in Melbourne. My spiritual encounter happened during the adoration at UNITE when the blessed sacrament was exposed in the middle of the hall. Singing praises with unending chants and seeing my fellow participants being filled with Holy Spirit, rekindled the fire in me and the desire to use my gift of music to glorify Him and His kingdom. Syro-Malabar Youth Movement Youth  Leaders'  Summit (YLS) is an annual leadership  gathering,  hosted by the Youth Apostolate of Australia. The three-day event emphasises on faith formation and fellowship through the celebration of the Holy Qurbana, sessions lead by young speakers, powerful adoration and traditional practices.  This is one of the most highly anticipated events in the Youth Apostolate calendar, where youth leaders, youth animators and chaplains come together to pray, reflect and plan to be actively present within our  Syro-Malabar church. YLS was a reviving experience for all and marked a joyful time of fellowship and celebration of our Syro-Malabar identity. Empowered by the Spirit, enriched by the Word and embedded in our  Syro-Malabar roots, as young leaders of  Syro-Malabar Australia we marched along! Youth Leaders Summit 2018 | 2019 | 2020 Forgetting what lies behind and Like many, ‘Pre-Christ’, I had no idea that there was straining forward to what lies ahead, anything worth pursuing. Now, when I recall this particular instance, I see that it lit a spark in me to seek out the mysteries of my Father in Heaven. Shalom. iSpeak Survey March 2018 Before the beginning of SMYM, a survey  for youth  was circulated, to understand the needs,  wants  and expectations  of the youth  of the Syro- Malabar  community  within the Australian context.  The honest, specific and detailed responses from young people then  became the foundation of the five-year vision plan for Syro-Malabar Youth Movement in Australia. iPray July 2018 iPray is one of the pioneer initiatives of SMYM Australia. This is a weekly online intercession where Syro-Malabar youth set aside one hour of every week to intercede our needs and for those of the whole world. Active youth leaders take turns to lead the hour in the recitation of a rosary and Scripture reading. For the last two years, this weekly prayer has been celebrated nation-wide and is the backbone of our youth ministry. Every Thursday: 7:00AM AWST & 9:00PM AEST Unite for Kerala August 2018 When Kerala  was  experiencing  one of the worst floods in 100 years, the SMYM community united as one to join in an intensive prayer campaign during a time of uncertainty for the motherland. The youth raised over  $22,000 through various fundraising  activities  in  local  parishes/missions  which was then donated to SPANDAN along with the Eparchial contribution. PAGE| 19

October Youth Week 2018 A week dedicated to celebrating the present and the future of the Church. Every year it begins  on the Sunday before  the feast day of St. John Paul II, on the 22nd October, and ends on the Sunday following. St. John Paul II  is the patron saint of SMYM Australia.  The movement focuses  on  appreciating young people  who contribute to the ever-growing SMYM Australian family. October Bible Project 2018 The Bible Project is one of the pioneer initiatives of the Youth Apostolate. The aim of this initiative was to help young people reflect and share the Word of God. Each Bible verse is based on the Syro-Malabar Liturgical calendar which outlines the Bible passages used for Holy Qurbana within the Syro-Malabar rite. Bible verses were shared daily on all our social media platforms. December 2018 Crib for the King A  25-day  preparation initiated by  SMYM  Australia,  to commence  the season of Advent  and the birth of the Messiah. To celebrate Christmas in a special way, each day of this initiative challenged young people  to participate in various acts of kindness and personal reflection. PAGE | 20

Yeshuvinoppam April 2019 ‘Yeshuvinoppam’  is a  Lenten preparation initiated by SMYM Australia,  to lead and guide young people  into a spiritual journey to receive and celebrate the Risen Lord.    Daily challenges  (an activity which helps young people spiritually grow and socially involve)  were posted on  all the social media platforms  and several young people participated by posting photos  with  the hashtag  #Yeshuvinoppam and @smymaustralia. Road to Pentecost May 2019 Road to Pentecost is one of the pioneer initiatives organised by the Youth Apostolate of Melbourne. The Novena to the Holy Spirit is a traditional practice back in Kerala leading up to Pentecost. Young Syro-Malabarians came together over an online platform for a time of scriptural reflection, exploration of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and recitation of daily novena prayers. All sessions were led by priests from our Syro-Malabar parishes and many young people joined in on this spiritual journey. It was a renewing experience for all and a great time of communal prayer and fellowship in anticipation to receive an upper room experience. Lectio Divina Feb 2020 Based on the Circular which Bishop Bosco  Puthur  released early in the year, the first week of Lent was celebrated as a ‘Bible Week’. And as part of the Bible Week, all members of the Eparchy were called to take part in the “Lectio Divina”, which was a week of prayer and reflection on a set of daily bible verses during that week. As SMYM Australia, during Bible Week,  everyone  took part in this initiative online with  a reflection from  parish priests around Australia.  This was held daily at 6am for one week and the SMYM youth took bold leadership to ensure Lectio Divina was celebrated within the youth. While the current pandemic situation did put an  unexpected dent in our plans, by the grace of God, the members have been able to meet weekly to pray, reflect upon the word and release various projects via its YouTube, Facebook and Instagram pages to keep active during this time. The band aims to release more content over the coming months, to be able to praise God using His gifts, and to spread love and hope as instruments of God. There is a sense of freedom and joy that comes with singing that is hard to explain with words.  Being brought up with strong faith and closeness to the church, I have been blessed with various opportunities to spread God’s love with this talent through church choir and various youth events. Each time I sing, it is a song of thanksgiving to Him who called me into this ministry. I pray  every day that I am able to praise Him to my last breath.  As part of our band, Songs of Seraphim, I have found a family of likeminded musicians, to come together to praise and make music to glorify our God. It has been an incredible journey so far, growing together in faith and friendship, and I pray that we are able to do great things in His name in the future. VOCATIONAL Although I didn’t completely understand how this DISCERNMENT will turn out, I believed that God  is at work and  it’s my duty to fulfil His will.    From that moment BR. InternationalSyro-Malabar Youth Movement Students SMYM International Students' (SMYM-IS) ministry is an initiative of  Youth Apostolate Australia. It began with Vazhikaatti in 2019 in Parramatta, Wollongong and Canberra. It’s a platform for International students hailing from Kerala (India) to discover and re-discover the purpose of life in multicultural Australia.   Vazhikaatti is an open forum to listen to the major struggles and challenges of International students. It is an avenue that will help them to embrace the workplace and study culture effectively and an education place where International students are prepared for the present and future. It's an engaging community of socially committed individuals and an enlightened group of catalysts who live the purpose. Educate: Create awareness about the life and opportunities in Australia. Enhance: Develop the skills that are absolute necessary to live. Engage: Create opportunities to engage them in to community life. Empower: Strengthen the engagement and leadership. Hebrews 10: 24-25 SMYM-IS ministry gave rise to a society of diverse personalities with a common  Syro-Malabar Catholic belief and a similar geo-cultural background, rich in the essence of friendship and faith. When we left our home behind to pursue our careers, it was of immense help to find friends who shared the same faith in Christ and also understood the hardships faced when we are away from home in a foreign land. The interconnectedness helped me to find some great company and the platform to represent international students who are willing to contribute towards SMYM-IS Australia to grow together. A strong community of about 60 international students from various states in Australia got built in the past few months and I hope that the growth never stops. NITIN JOSE ST. ACYF was the most amazing and powerful experience in my life, mainly due to celebrating it with the people of SMYM Australia. Being able to partake in the largest Catholic event in Australia was already crazy enough, with the sight of thousands of like-minded people sharing the one Catholic faith giving you such a sense of encouragement, stimulating a new drive to persist with the struggles associated with living as a Catholic. With the variety of informative talks discussing how to tackle modern problems, interactive workshops, extraordinary music and the unique opportunity to explore how other cultures celebrate the Catholic faith.  ACYF reveals the unity of the Catholic Church and opens the possibilities for a much richer and revamped experience of the faith. However, celebrating it as an SMYM youth is what truly made ACYF memorable. Sharing the faith with them enabled me to learn how to implement more of the Catholic faith associated with the  Syro-Malabar eastern rite. This developed a more personal and intimate connection with my cultural roots and re-establishing the fundamental basis of my identity. ANSTEVE SHAJU CHRIST THE KING SYRO-MALABAR MISSION VILLAWOOD Looking back at ACYF 2019, I am still dumfounded by how many memories are still freshly instilled in me. I remember walking through the Perth Convention Centre, which was more youthful, literally, and vibrant than I had ever seen. So many young Catholics of different rites and cultures came together in one place to glorify our God. As a Syro-Malabar Catholic, I was very proud of the presence we were able to establish. Our identity, our culture and our unity as a  Syro-Malabar community, was truly represented through each one of us, whether we were talking to people at the stall, performing on stage or just with our SMYM T- shirts. One of my  favourite  memories was seeing our Bishop Bosco Puthur up on the stage gleaming with pride, along with many other bishops from around Australia. During the Pandemic... Even though every New  Years  Eve everyone gets excited for the year  ahead, 2020 has been a shocking and unexpected year so far. COVID was not something the world was ready for. However, Youth Apostolate has been busy working on the spiritual growth of the youth of Australia. VERITE ONATE \"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.\" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Young people gathered every day for three months and our dear priests  across  Australia led us with Biblical reflections. Together in one voice, the  Syro-Malabar community raised prayers for His mercy on the world during this pandemic and help us increase our faith in Him. SMYM Australia called out all young people in our SUKHAMAANO? Eparchy to do their part and look out for their PLANT THE FUTURE fellow brothers and sisters experiencing isolation, financial or medical hardships during these highly unusual times. Through a friendly phone call or a warm text message,  Syro-Malabar youth reached out to those who are in need especially international students in Australia, appreciate the frontline healthcare workers. “Let us be protectors of creation, protectors of God’s plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and of the environment.\" These were Pope Francis’ words in his encyclical ‘Laudato Si’.  In  honour of celebrating the 5th anniversary of ‘Laudato Si’, on Sunday May 24th, SMYM Australia invited all faithful to ‘Be the present and Plant the Future’. All were encouraged to plant something in their gardens to commemorate this special day and to remember to praise God for His amazing creation! PAGE | 36

SMYM Australia introduced a National Bible Quiz BIBLIA: Tournament to elevate the spirits of families and NATIONAL young people of Australia and New Zealand. The BIBLE QUIZ online tournament ran over three rounds with TOURNAMENT challenging questions that focused on the Gospel of Luke, Syro-Malabar tradition, and the Catholic WEBINAR Church. This was a great opportunity for families WEDNESDAYS to sit, search, and  study.  Over  95 families/individuals registered for the tournament COMPANION and a major cash prize awaited the top 3. 2020 THE WINNERS OF BIBLIA: PAGE| 37 First Place: Roby Family, Canberra (Jerlin & Roby Ray Joshua).  Second Place: Kurisunkal Family, Campbelltown (Tiara, Tomin, Tonia, Mary & Thomas Kurisunkal). Third Place: Pullattu Family, Canberra (Ancy, Donny, Anitta, Deyana & Georgi) In 2020, Youth Apostolate introduced an online platform to educate, engage and inspire young people in their personal and public ministry. Over the past months, Webinar Wednesdays have been successfully running every week, featuring dynamic speakers from around the world, who provide insight and answer questions on very interesting subjects concerning the youth. Topics included, faith and life, Bible study, vocational discernment, debunking sola scriptura and many more. These one-hour webinars have been the highlight of the week! This  was  the first ever national gathering that invited all the international students of Syro- Malabar Church  for a time of fun, faith and fellowship.  Companion 2020 aimed to help these isolated students come together.  Around 40 individuals attended this 3-hour online gathering conducted and hosted by the SMYM International Students' Ministry on Sunday 26th  July.  The different talks and group activities helped the students to create  friendships across the nation, and the filial love felt throughout the day helped them overcome homesickness.

Rooha  which translates to 'breath of God',  was ROOHA the first ever online retreat organised by the (ONLINE RETREAT) Youth Apostolate for the young people of the  Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Melbourne. The  2- day retreat  was led by Heavenly Hosts and it consisted of a variety of sessions in the lead up to Pentecost. Despite the unprecedented times, Rooha helped young people preserve their faith  and be rekindled and renewed by the Holy Spirit. Rooha  retreat was a touching experience as I could spend valuable time truly preparing for Pentecost.  Realising  the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives more than what we can think of, was overwhelming. We must long and earnestly ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and if it is God’s will we will receive what he wants at the right time.  Being zealous is what we should be for Christ and surely no longer us but is Christ, who lives in us (Galatians 2:20).  Zeal retreat assured me that the joy we experience in Christ is immeasurable and that is one of the characteristic of us being Christians. Our faith journey won’t be always smooth but filled with struggles and hardships. And it is at that time we have to make sure we hold onto our Jesus tight and never let go. The only way we can do that is to have a great relationship with God the Father and his Son Jesus. These lessons and experiences enriched my faith and taught me to be zealous for God. JISLIN JOSEPH ST THOMAS, THE APOSTLE SYRO-MALABAR PARISH BRISBANE SOUTH An online retreat designed for the youth of ZEAL our  Syro-Malabar parishes and missions across (ONLINE RETREAT) Australia and led by Heavenly Hosts. During uncertain times and hardships, it can be challenging to sustain our relationship with God. This two-day retreat aimed to inspire our youth towards a relentless pursuit of God and his will. The retreat comprised of spirit-filled sessions about having a personal hunger for the Lord and his kingdom and stressed on our personal and ecclesial mission to spread the Good News. Individuals and youth parish teams returned back to their parish and mission communities feeling inspired and rekindled. PAGE | 38

Praise God! The  Rooha  and Zeal retreats were both very helpful for me during the time of quarantine and encouraged me to stop and think about my personal relationship with Jesus. The Rooha retreat at the start of the nine day Road to Pentecost, helped me to participate in the novena and prepare myself well for the Pentecost. The different sessions in the Rooha retreat reminded me who Holy Spirit is, the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life and the sins against the Holy Spirit. The silent reflection times between the sessions were powerful and helped me to focus and reflect about myself.  The Zeal retreat was a reminder to remember my call from slavery to the sonship of Christ, the King. It reminded me of the willingness I should have to respond to God’s call and be zealous to do His will in my life. The life examples of saints and the practical advice shared in the retreat were an encouragement to become zealous for souls. DIVYA PAUL ST. MARY’S SYRO-MALABAR PARISH ADELAIDE SOUTH Zeal retreat held for St. Joseph Syro-Malabar Parish, Perth. I had the pleasure of attending the online retreat “Rooha” led by the Syro-Malabar Youth Movement with my daughter. The retreat was conducted in preparation for Pentecost and I was truly amazed by the zeal and spirit with which the youngsters spoke, and their depth of knowledge in the Holy Bible. SMYM has established itself in all parishes in Australia and has managed to gather not only the youngsters in Australia, but also the international students under its caring wing. They have weekly Bible study groups, a vibrant music ministry and many other initiatives to help the youth take up various roles, and help those who are less fortunate during the pandemic.  During these unprecedented times, SMYM is doing a fantastic job in leading our youngsters to find the right path and show them the various ways in which they can play an active role in the community.  More importantly, SMYM is doing a tremendous job in helping our young ones to understand that faith and trust in Jesus is all they need to face any problems in their life.
