Computer CPU unit. A computer is a device with endless possibilities, What is a Cpu? The most important part of your computer, if you had to choose just one, would be the central processing unit (CPU). It’s the primary hub (or “brain”), and it processes the instructions that come from programs, the operating system, or other components in your PC.

Full form of CPU:- The full form is-“Central processing unit” The points that verify that CPU is the brain :- The CPU is the brain of a computer as: It contains all the circuitry needed to process input, store data, and output results. The CPU is constantly following instructions of computer programs that tell it which data to process and how to process it. Without a CPU, we could not run programs on a computer.

Types of CPU’s:- There are generally 6 types of Cpu’s:- ● Single-core CPU. It is the oldest type of CPU which is available and employed in most of the personal and official computers. ● Dual-core CPU. ● Quad-core CPU. ● Hexa Core processors. ● Octa-core processors. ● Deca-core processor. Different types of CPU architectures:- There are two primary processor architectures used in today's environments: 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86-64, IA64, and AMD64).

Operations done by the CPU:- The four primary functions of a processor are fetch, decode, execute and write back. Fetch- is the operation which receives instructions from program memory from a systems RAM. Execute- is where the operation is performed. Each part of the CPU that is needed is activated to carry out the instructions.

Components of CPU and Their Functions:- As we all know, the CPU is responsible for all the major tasks like processing data and instructions inside the computer system. But, all this is possible only because of the components present inside the CPU which divide the work among themselves and process it at a fast pace to produce the desired result. We will study each of these components in the subsequent parts. There are 6 main components of a CPU:- ● Control Unit (CU) ● Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) ● Registers ● Cache ● Buses ● Clock Now this diagram will help to understand how this all works:
