EDITOR'S LETTER Welcome to the G Magazine. Growing thru the Pandemic (in 2020) it was obvious that we as a people are broken. No matter what you label \"broken\", whether it be a loss of a job, death of a love one, child abuse, substance abuse, divorce .... you name it. Every day, we are hurting and experience the feeling of being broken. It was one day that it hit me, the thought of putting a t-shirt line labeled, the G. After a conversation with my wife, it was when I discovered she was a Brand Partner with Santana Global who aids in helping an author become a Self-Publishing Author for books and or magazines. She would go on to share with me that the G Magazine was being published for anyone that needs to understand that you are the G! Being the G, which stands for \"the Glue\" you must be able to glue or bond back together everything that is broken or make you feel as if it is broken back together. Carl Weatherspoon Jr. Carl Ivy Weatherspoon Jr. is an educator, entrepreneur, and community advocate, currently serving his hometown of Gary, Indiana. What You See is the God in Me Contributing Editor: Aaliyah Ellison My life’s journey spans a myriad of subject matters. My foundation has always been Jesus Christ. My walk with God is unconventional but steadfast. I have been tried, tested, fought against, and lied on. I have had deep-valley experiences and mountaintop triumphs, and God held my hand through it all. My hope is that you will be inspired to live your best, authentic life. I love self-expression. Since childhood, I have loved music. I sang in my church choir, taught Sunday School classes, helped the elderly with chores, washed and braided their hair, and helped with whatever else that was needed. My mother was instrumental in ensuring that I knew the importance of hard work, helping others, using wisdom, and having fun. I served my country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. Serving your country is no small task. It comes with many scars and experiences that live with you for the rest of your life. I am a disabled veteran. My scars are not outward, but inward. One of the many scars that I deal with is that I was sexually assaulted during my service. My story is not an anomaly but an occurrence that plagues thousands of women veterans and service members to this day. My path led me to seek help, understand the trauma that I suffered, and develop daily strategies and coping mechanisms to live and thrive. God helped me through the emotional and spiritual aspects of my healing. I had to do the rest by facing the situation, and seeking therapy from a therapist that specializes in sexual trauma. I learned that being nice, kind, intelligent, and beautiful was not a license for a predator to take advantage of me. The predator is sick, twisted, and a cancer to society. I took back my power by continuing to embrace who I am with no apologies. There are other circumstances that caused negativity in my life. I have been subjected to bullying, extreme reactions by jealous people, and sabotage (on many occasions) in order to stop my progression in life. I have been sabotaged for job promotions that I worked for, and earned, by someone lying on me. One lie being that I do not have years of experience and university certifications specializing in project management. When I was turned down continuously, and found out what happened, I felt hopeless. I was angry and upset. God mentored me on how to overcome these situations and grow stronger from them. It is like Tyler Perry says, “It’s not what they call you, it’s what you answer to.” My resolve and awareness of who I am and Whose I am cannot be shaken. I know who I am and lies cannot take away from who I am. I can be called whatever, but I will not answer, subscribe, nor change my behavior because of it.

I have many passions. My nerd passion is being an analyst. I always had the ability to see the commonalities in things throughout life. This caused me to naturally gravitate to jobs that allow me to express my intrigue and place a scientific aspect to my thought processes. My specialties and job titles that I have held, so far, are Process Analyst, Management and Program Analyst, and Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. A Six Sigma Black Belt is a professional that specializes in explaining philosophies, principals to assist with streamlining manufacturing systems, maintenance processes, and developing tools to assist with maintaining changes made to the processes. My certification was obtained through the University of Oklahoma. My certification has allowed me to work with organizations in the aerospace industries with billion-dollar budgets to save millions by streamlining their processes over time. Another passion of mine is cooking. I love to create culinary dishes. Pictured in this article are some of my homemade dishes including bruschetta, plantains with shrimp, a fresh fruit cocktail with Tajin seasoning, beef fajita tacos, and a charcuterie board with some of my favorite finger foods. I love trying new recipes and putting my spin on them. I substitute ingredients with healthier options. Food has to taste good, or what’s the point? I know that we have to eat to live but God gave us taste buds, so I take that as a mandate that food should taste good. Healthy living is my passion that keeps on giving. I believe that we live in our bodies and should take care of them for longevity, enjoyment, and a peaceful existence. If your health is declining because of poor diet, lack of exercise, and not being outside to enjoy the benefits of the Sun, you can change that today. Many of the ailments that plague Americans are based on what they eat. If you change your diet to healthy options, you will enjoy life. I promise. Another way that I practice healthy living is by exercising. I lift weights, I am a member of a competitive paddle boating team with my daughter Aaliyah, play tennis, swim, and hike. An easy way begin healthy living is by taking a 20-minute walk every day after dinner. The benefits are tremendous. Walking is helpful in keeping your heart healthy, reducing stress, helping with weight loss, and increasing energy. My most important passion is being a mother. I have the opportunity to be the mother to a wonderful woman. She has followed in my footsteps in some ways by living healthy and focusing on physical fitness. Aaliyah has mastered kickboxing, media production, and corporate correspondence. I am proud of her accomplishments and the way she is growing as a person. The best is yet to come because God has promised me that He will bless my child. We support each other and it is a blessing. I also have a fur baby and fur grand baby. Marceline (blonde grand baby) and Tiffany (brown-black baby). They are funny, chaotic, and never cease to interrupt my at-home work outs.

My other interests are in acting, modeling, writing, and being a life coach. All of my life experiences have made me who I am. I cannot say that life has been easy for me. During each trial and tribulation, I learned the lesson and continued to move forward. As I celebrate the triumphs, I keep in mind that God is my rock. With Him all things are possible as long as I put in effort and do the work that He expects me to do. My New Year’s wish for you: As we enter 2023, I realize that the numbers 2+0+2+3 = 7 which is the number of completion. This year will be what you make of it. Never give up. I pray that you leave behind the things that do not serve you and that you embrace the things that do. Align yourself with people who are going where you want to be, and be kind. There is enough hatefulness and jealousy in the shallow people around you. Do not be like them. Say a kind word, and in some cases, say nothing at all. How to Improve Your Credit Score in 30 Days 1. Pay down revolving balances to less than 30% Your aggregate debt and the amounts owed on all credit cards and all installment accounts make up about 30% of your credit score. The most common revolving balances are amounts owed on your credit cards. However, there is a big difference between the revolving balances of someone with a 780 credit score and a 680 → credit score. Credit score of 680 revolving balances of 40%-50% of their credit card limits. →Credit score of 780 revolving balances of 15%-25% of their credit card limits. Essentially, don’t worry too much about paying installment accounts. They have a low impact on your score. Instead, pay your revolving balances off as soon as possible. At the very least, aim to pay those balances down to less than 30%. This will help to improve your credit score in 30 days or less. 2. Remove recent late payments A single late payment can drop your credit score by 60 to 110 points. Yikes! →A 680 credit score a 30-day late payment can drop your score by 60 to 80 points. On the other hand, a 90-day late payment can drop your score 70 to 90. →A 780 credit score a 30-day late payment can drop your score by 90 to 110 points. In contrast, it can drop 105 to 135 points if you have a 90-day late payment.

How to Improve Your Credit Score in 30 Days The difference between a person with a 780 score and a 680 score is that the 780 score has no late payments, while a person with the 680 may have a 30- day late payment within the last year or a 90-day late payment 2 years ago. Removing a late payment will take persistence. There are a couple of ways to request removal. The most common and effective way is to call the original creditor and ask for a goodwill adjustment. If they resist, you can even negotiate the removal of the late payment by agreeing to sign up for automatic payments. For other late payments, you can file a dispute against the late payment for inaccuracy. 3. Remove a collection account: People with a 780-credit score do not have any collections or other major derogatory items on their credit report. If you do have a collection account reporting on your credit report, you should try to get the collection deleted. Do NOT just pay a collection. A paid collection usually doesn’t help improve your credit score! Instead, negotiate a “pay for delete” IN WRITING with the collector. Only when you have a written agreement should you pay a collection account, and then work on getting the account deleted.

4. Raise your credit limits: Call your credit card companies and request a raise to your credit limits. Ask if they can raise your credit limit with a soft pull of your credit since a hard inquiry will appear under the “New Credit” category of your FICO score. If you can negotiate an increase of your credit limit with a soft inquiry, then you will instantly decrease your revolving balance ratio (revolving balance divided by your credit card limits). If you have low balances and good payment history, then your chances of successfully executing this tactic will increase. 5. Charge small amounts to inactive credit card: It’s easy to neglect older credit cards when you have a primary credit card that you use every day. If your credit cards have not had activity in the last six months, charge a small amount to the credit card. Creditors want to see that you are using the credit available to you as well as paying the balances off responsibly. Charging a small amount and paying off the balance shows that you have a different mix of credit in use, which makes up a portion of your FICO score. 6. Get credit: No credit equals bad credit. You need credit accounts to be reporting to your credit report to improve your credit score. You must have at least 1 open revolving account, even if you have no negative accounts. In addition, this revolving credit account must have been used in the last 6 months. There are a couple of ways to get credit to improve your credit score in 30 days. One way is opening a secured credit card, with preference being given to a card that reports as an unsecured card with your credit limit to all three bureaus. The other way is to add yourself to a seasoned tradeline. Someone with good credit history can add you as a co-signer, where you are equally responsible for all debt. Or, they can add you as an authorized user, where you are not responsible for any of the debt – and Mortgage FICO 5 will count the history as yours.

Survivorship Rediscovering Yourself Through Survivorship I was asked the question during an interview, how the name of my anthology book came about. Why did I choose the title- “Survivorship: Rediscovering Yourself Through Survivorship”? Honestly, I thought about what I had gone through by conquering breast cancer and other traumatic events throughout my life. However, I think the most life changing, and impactful experience was fighting for my life through breast cancer. All of us have experienced some type of traumatic moment in our lives. The sudden loss of a loved one, a major car accident, divorce, just to name a few. If you think about it, life isn’t always “rainbows and sprinkles”, as I tell my husband sometimes. When you go through a season of healing from a traumatic health experience; near death, oh yeah, you have a Tanya totally different view on life and the value of living. I heard someone recently say, “if you didn’t learn a Byrd lesson from your trial or tribulation, God will test you again until you get it.” Some folks unfortunately never do.
