Britain shut off the supplies needed to make them, so Americans turned to making whiskey from corn—a widely available (and fully ’Merican) grain. They never looked back. Whiskey became the drink of choice for U.S. farmers, who could grow corn and distilled it easily on their own with the corn left over from sales and food. When farmers grew too much corn, they turned it into whiskey, which became a huge cash crop. It also led to the first taxes and the first anti-tax uprising. SKILLSETMAG.COM Over the centuries of human existence, one constant has always remained even to this day—change. Weather, economics and politics, the whole of our very existence is based on the changing tides of time. What we are faced with today, although it may seem troubling in entirely new ways, is simply indicative of what we’ve always faced. One could even make the argument that’s how things have always been; we just now have greater access to the information. With that in mind, a solid group of people that you are integral to has become more than a passing interest, it’s now a necessity. In the age of information, it’s no longer what you know. It’s who you know that gives power and meaning. Surrounding yourself with others who are compassionate, reliable, honest and positive can help you through life’s hardships. #SKILLSETMAG 113
