Welcome Coming home to calming cross stitch… WE JUST SPENT a weekend escorting two of our daughters to a concert at London’s Wembley Arena. It was worth the effort, but after two days of tube trains and as much sight-seeing as possible, we were pleased to be back home in our familiar, calmer, surroundings. We feel a similar way about CrossStitcher too. We really want it to feel like the calm of coming home after a busy day – a chance to relax and sink into the familiar, and also a place to be inspired. To welcome you this month we have a ‘wave’ of nostalgia with a mini printers’ tray filled with images of a summer beach (page 18). Each design slots into a different section in the tray, making it rewarding to complete one small project at a time. Speaking of welcomes, we have a lovely nursery gift idea. Some very special animals are waiting for you on page 40. We can just imagine them becoming part of many a bedtime story! We have inspiring ways to celebrate summer too. We hope you love the meadow flower lampshade (page 58) and our ladybird cushion (page 32) as much as we do. Happy stitching! SUSAN & MARTIN PENNY EDITORS P.S. BEACHCOMBER COLLECTION How to… ƮQLVK \\RXUSULQWHUŞVWUD\\ Step 1 SPACE your designs on the aida fabric, leaving 14 blank aida squares between each individual section. You will need to paint the printer’s tray with a match pot to achieve the colour shown. Step 2 TRIM each design carefully to fit, making sure the stitching is in the centre, and removing one row of aida squares at a time to get the correct fit. Place each design in the printer’s tray and then, using double-sided tape, stick the designs in place. hdaensTggiirghnenegasitdnwdesociuuvomilrddmaumetarialoknes! ••••PSS3Sritiz3nraeaxtmen32rpd64’seecttdamdraprco(ye1o3Wstxttorh1y4nit¼neaeis1ne4l)idscltoeeudnitnatihdea;key Materials available from www.willowfabrics.com 22 www.crossstitchermag.com

Step 2 PLACE the cushion front right-sides together with the backing fabric. Pin, then machine stitch around the edge with a 1.25cm (½in) seam allowance, leaving a gap for turning.
