SHAREINSPIRETRANSFORMIn 1975, the National Railway Museumbecame the first national museum toopen outside of London. Since then morethan 33 million people have experiencedour take on the invention that shaped themodern world.As we approach the 200th anniversaryof the Stockton and Darlington Railway– and our own 50th birthday – we want tocompletely reimagine how we share theinspirational story of the railways withour visitors.This is a watershed moment for the UK’srail economy and a pivotal time ofregeneration within the City of York.That’s why we must act now to achieveour transformative vision.

SCIENCETECHNOLOGYENGINEERINGToday, the UK is facing a shortfallof 173,000 skilled STEM workers.With the number of STEM-relatedcareers expected to double inthe next 10 years, this nationalpredicament is set to becomemore acute.Our transformed museum will playa critical role in addressing thisshortfall. We will double the numberof schoolchildren coming throughour doors, building their confidencein science and engineering whilethey develop new skills.For many, the National RailwayMuseum will be the placewhere they take their first stepstowards a fulfilling and productiveSTEM career.
