Welcome to the Fashion/ Interior/ Jewellery Design/ Photography Program at Hamstech.We recommend that you read this handbook carefully and refer to it often. It providesyou with necessary as well as easy access to the information you will need, for yourstudy at Hamstech.• This Handbook informs you about the key people who are involved in administeringthe programme.• Tells you about the organization, administration, and structure of the programme andmakes clear what is required from your end in order to graduate successfully.• Provides information on policies related to academics and student activities oncampus.• Gives details about the facilities and services available on campus.If you have any questions, please contact the Centre Head at your centre. Academic PolicyCLASSROOM ETIQUETTE:High professional standards are expected of all the participants of the program. Faculty are expectedto be professional and prepared to deliver value for each and every class session. Students are expect-ed to be professional in all respects. Classes are held 6 days a week, with duration of 2-4 hours for one& two year’s programs and 4-6 hours for Bdesign. Timings of the classes shall vary at times to ensureproper and uninterrupted training.For enhanced classroom experience, we require you to abide by the following:1. Arrive on Time. On time arrival ensures that classes/events are able to start and finish at the sched-uled time. On time arrival shows respect for both fellow participants and faculty and it enhances learn-ing by reducing avoidable distractions.2. Minimize unscheduled personal breaks. The learning environment improves when disruptions arelimited.3. Come fully prepared for each class. This programme is structured in such a way that a lot of learningin this programme takes place during case/classroom discussions. When you are not prepared thenyou cannot contribute to the overall learning process. This affects not only the individual, but alsotheir peers.4. Respect the views and opinions of their peers. Disagreement and debate are encouraged. Intoler-ance for the views of others is unacceptable.5. Please ensure laptops are closed and put away. When you are surfing the web, responding to e-mail,instant messaging each other, and otherwise not devoting their full attention to the topic at hand youare doing yourself and your peers a major disservice. Participants cannot benefit from the insights ofthose who are not engaged. It is also very distracting to the faculty member.6. Phones and wireless devices are turned off. We’ve all heard the annoying ringing in the middle of ameeting. Not only is it not professional, it cuts off the flow of discussion.For further rules and regulations refer to Annexure III.ATTENDANCE POLICY75% Attendance for all the sessions is compulsory to be able to write exams.• In case, due to unavoidable circumstances you need to miss more than one day during any particularterm, please let the Centre head and student support know a week in advance. The Center head willdefer such cases to the Academic committee chaired by Operations Head and the teaching head• The Academic Committee’s decision on marks for the courses and/or continuation of the programmewill be final. • All communications in this aspect should be via email to avoid ambiguity.MISSING OF CLASSESDue to short duration of the program as well as the modular structure of the program, missing ofclasses is not allowed. In case of missing of classes due to extreme emergencies the less attendancepolicy will be applicable to all participants (Annexure II).MISSING OF COURSE/MODULE/ REJOINING• In case a participant need to miss more days or discontinue from the programme for any unforeseencontingencies, the participant will be allowed to continue in the programme from the next semesterand complete the remaining courses in that academic year with the other fees as applicable*• Student can also take leave of absence any time from the current year during the programme andwill be allowed to rejoin the next academic year from the place where she/he had left the previousyear i.e. complete the remaining courses the next year. 5

• Once they complete all the modules required for graduation they will be allowed to graduate fromthe programme in the academic year they complete the graduation requirement.In case of a leave of absence is being granted, the programme fee and programme policies are applica-ble as per the current academic year in which the applicant rejoins the programme, and NOT based onthe fee and policies of admission year. The adjustments of the fee will be done on a pro-rata basis forthe courses/terms completed in the year the participants rejoins the programme.SUBMISSION OF ALL ASSIGNMENTS/EXAMSIt is mandatory to submit all assignments (individual/group) related to course in the prescribed for-mat.If a participant does not submit a component/assignment, pertaining to a course, on time, they may beawarded “Not Pass” grade in the course based on the faculty’s discretion.FEEDBACK SURVEYSFeedback survey (online survey) will be done on random basis. There are two types of feedback1. Course and Faculty feedback2. Programme Management feedbackFeedback is an important component as it helps us improve and innovate. It is mandatory to take thefeedback survey.BOOKS AND COURSE MATERIALSYou will be provided the required text books (as suggested/referred by the professor) .All endeavorswill be made to make sure that you are provided the study material 5 weeks before the start of theterm to enable you to prepare and complete the assignments. The programme office will not be pro-viding printed copies of the study material which has been uploaded to the LMS in soft copy format.The participant will have to make her/his own arrangements to print this material should they wishto. For additional or replacement copies of the material or text books, the participants will be requiredto procure them on their own.LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LOA)Leave of absence is not encouraged and will only be granted under exceptional circumstances.• If a participant wishes to take leave from the program it will only be allowed for one academic yearand a written notice is to be provided to the program office six weeks prior. Participants may be askedto provide documentary evidence to support their request.• The candidates will have to rejoin and finish the classes in the next academic year from where theyhave left. Certificate will be awarded only after the full completion of the program. LOA is provided forone year only.In case of a leave of absence is being granted, the programme fee and programme policies are applica-ble as per the current academic year in which the applicant rejoins the programme, and NOT based onthe fee and policies of admission year. The adjustments of the fee will be done on a pro-rata basis forthe courses/terms completed in the year the participants rejoins the programme.WITHDRAWAL FROM THE PROGRAMA candidate can withdraw from the program anytime by providing appropriate notice. No certificatewill be awarded. Refund of fee will be according to the refund policies prevailing at that point of time.TRANSCRIPTSTranscripts will be issued at the end of the program containing your final grades. 6

CERTIFICATEA certificate of completion of the Programme will be awarded to the students after successful comple-tion of the program and after meeting all graduation requirements.GRADUATION REQUIREMENTSThe student should satisfy all the below three criteria in order to successfully graduate the pro-gramme.1. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS• The student should meet all the academic requirements of the programme specified for that current aca-demic year.• The student should obtain all the required internal and external marks as specified in the student handbook.2. NO DUES REQUIREMENTS• The student should clear all the dues to be paid to Hamstech prior to the receipt of Hall tickets.• The process of the exit formalities to be completed before requesting for security deposit.3. PENALTY FOR VIOLATION REQUIREMENTS• In case of any violation, the penalty therein imposed by the Academic Committee should be successfullycompleted. Participant RecordsENROLLMENT/REGISTRATION NUMBERSEach participant will be matriculated in the programme upon completion of all admission formalities.She/he will be allocated a unique identification number known as the Enrollment number. The participant must also ensure not to share their Enrollment numbers with other participants toensure confidentiality of their personal details. IDENTITY CARDAn identification card bearing this number, photograph of the participant and a few key details willbe provided to each participant. This should be kept secure and produced for accessing resources ofHamstech. Entry to campus will be denied by the security staff if the participant fails to produce thiscard at the entry gate of Hamstech. Therefore, all participants must ensure that they carry this cardwith them at all times.CHANGE OF PARTICULARSIn case a participants wants to update her/his personal details they will have to submit their requestto the Center Head in writing/ via email. Grading PolicyGRADE DISCLOSURE POLICYHamstech follows a grade disclosure policy that allows students to reveal their grades at their own dis-cretion. The institute does not share the grades with anyone outside, unless there is a written requestfrom the concerned student.GRADING SCHEME1. Internal: 50 Marks (10 marks- attendance, 10 – activity, 10 marks-submissions, 20 marks-Class 7

work)2. External: 50 Marks.REVIEW OF ANSWER SCRIPTS AND REVISION OF SCORESIf a student feels that a re-counting of the answer script is required, then the student must provide are-counting request within 4 working days of date of the release of result for that course. The recount-ing request must state clear reasons why you believe your scores should be revised. The decision ofthe faculty/programme office will be final and no further requests for re-counting will be entertained. No revaluation of the answer script shall be done. Hamstech Honour CodeCode Policy: The Honour Code establishes Hamstech’s fundamental standards that govern studentconduct. It requires that students exercise honesty and integrity in their academic related activities.They must maintain the highest ethical standards, as demanded of good citizens, both within and out-side the campus. Penalties for violation of the code could range from failure in the concerned course toexpulsion, depending on the nature of the offence.In accordance with the Honour Code, all Hamstech students should:1. Refrain from offences such as copying, cheating, plagiarizing, lying and colluding with fellow stu-dents in a manner not permitted by the concerned faculty, giving or receiving unauthorized aid, andresorting to bribery or intimidation to obtain an advantage over others.2. Mention appropriate citations in any academic exercise such as take home assignments, exams,project reports, quizzes, class participation and others, as determined by the faculty member.3. Treat fellow classmates, faculty and all staff with due respect.Violations:Some examples of violation of the code include:1. Plagiarism - Sharing oral and written information during examinations or consulting written mate-rials not authorized by the faculty member2. Unauthorized collaborationa. Reworking a quiz or exam for re-grading, without the faculty member’s approvalb. Giving or receiving aid not permitted on a take-home examination or assignmentc. Submitting another student’s work as one’s ownd. to indulge in malpractices resulting in legal proceedings3. Not maintaining honesty in what they claim to have achieved academically and otherwise for thepurpose of gaining any job, scholarships or any other privilege.4. Threatening or intimidating any staff, faculty members or fellow classmates5. Not upholding the spirit and letter of the Honour Code on their part and cooperate in reportingviolations of the Code by others.PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF THE HONOUR CODEIn general, there is no single form of penalty which applies to violations of the Honour Code. It de-pends on the severity of the offense.Penalties can include obtaining “FAIL” in the course, obtaining a zero for the component found guilty ofviolating, repeating an entire term or multiple terms or full year in the future with appropriate tuitionfee payment, expulsion from Hamstech ranging from one year to an indefinite period, and/or otherpenalties that the Honour Code Committee may deem fit 8

Queries/ Complaint/ Grievance ProcedureThe students can report to following authorities (based on hierarchy) in writing for solving their que-ries/ complaints/ Grievances:1. Centre Head2. Chairman IT Infrastructure and PolicyLAPTOP/APPLICATION TROUBLE-SHOOTING SERVICES:IT will extend trouble-shooting help to the extent the problem is related to:• The network or Software applications/facilities provided by Hamstech within the purview ofthe IT policy, provided the other software loaded by the student on the laptop are not conflicting orinterfering with them.• Connectivity to the Internet on campusIT will NOT be able to extend trouble-shooting services, to the extent the problem is related to thefollowing:• Student loaded software on the laptop• Hardware or other device drivers on the laptop• Accessories to the laptop• External conditions on the InternetCOMPUTER LAB FACILITY:We provide a limited lab facility containing around 15 desktops physically located at the LearningResource Centre (LRC) for common use by students. It must be noted that no permanent data must beretained on these lab machines, as these disks will be ‘cleaned’ by IT on a daily basis.LIBRARY FACILITYLibrary at all centres is equipped with prescribed books by the instructors for students’ access. Thelibrary hours are from 10:30 AM-5:30 PM on all weekdays.STUDENT PORTAL ACCESSThe Student support department allots you one unique ID for accessing all information useful forstudy with Hamstech. It is mandatory for the student to check the Student Portal daily for any updates,all notices, results, time table, exam related news, events, activities, campus information etc. All infor-mation will only be available on the portal online and no classroom info will be provided. Students canretain this ID even after graduation to keep themselves updated of all happenings at Hamstech.INTERNET ACCESS (AT HAMSTECH)This facility is extended to students only during their availability on campus, primarily for academicpurposes. The following important points may be kept in mind, in connection with Internet access.• It is assumed that student will not browse objectionable sites, or sites giving malicious content, orany other sites forbidden by the Government of India. In instances of violation, Hamstech takes noresponsibility for the same and the individuals involved will be liable for the consequences.• Internet usage should be restricted to academic purposes only. Heavy downloads/browsing; chat- 9

ting, etc. tend to choke the bandwidth, thus slowing down the Net not only for you, but also for otherson campus.• Internet usage is completely governed by the “Internet Policy” defined at Hamstech.HELP DESKThe Student Support is available for providing services to students, on any complaint or service re-quest i.e., either through telephonic support or remote support via email/ student portal.The student while in campus should walk in to Student Support department for any assistance on:(a) Any queries regarding installments, batch timings or change in the batch.(b) Enquiries related to study material, assignments, projects or exam.(c) Subject related grievances.
