As Behavioral Sightings Creative Director, Daniel was in charge of all creative direction, layout, and design for this magazine. In Memoriam Daniel Russell Potter, 46, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at his home in Dallas, Texas. Daniel was born March 17, 1970 in Mountain View, California. He was the son of Cheryl Potter and Russell L. Potter. Daniel was a graduate of Ozark Academy in Gentry, Arkansas and he graduated from Walla Walla College with a BA in Commercial Art. He opened his own design company at age 23 and contracted with compa- nies such as Walt Disney, Levi, and Sports Afield Apparel. He also worked for a publishing firm as their lead designer for 4 years before being promoted to Creative Curriculum Director. Recently, Daniel worked in the magazine and print design industry for luxury lifestyle magazines as Creative Director, designer, and web designer. Daniel was also an accomplished photographer and worked for over 6 years as a commercial video director, editor, and set designer. In his free time Daniel enjoyed freelance photography, a variety of sports, and personal art projects. Gathering of Friends and Family Daniel’s friends and family gathered together for his memorial service, which was held on Saturday, September 24 at the Gentry Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Gentry, Arkansas. Jason Brian, Behavioral Sightings Editor-in-Chief, and Paul Mikel, Direct Response Director for our parent company Redwood Recovery Solutions, took time out of their busy schedules to fly out to Arkansas and attend the memorial. The dual diagnosis facility is surround-ed by 427 acres of beautiful pastureland and is about 20miles NW of Ocala. Once a rehab facility for injuredhorses, Equine Therapy is now a major part of theirtreatment program.A FRESH START AFTER TRAGEDYEntrepreneur and real estate developer Robert Miller ownsthe property, along with his wife Linnette. The facility hadsat vacant for the past three years.Wendy Lader, Ph.D., M.Ed., is the CEO for MendingFences and she provided a bit of insight on the facility,which just opened in February. A tragic accident in 2012,involving the hyperbaric chamber, resulted in the death ofa technician and one of the horses. The incident resultedin the eventual transition of the property from a horserehab facility to a residential treatment center.Dr. Lader says, “It was pretty powerful decision. Rob wasdevastated, he had PTSD over what happened here, itwas awful because one of our employees died andanother was injured. His family actually wanted him to sellthe property but emotionally, he felt he couldn’t walk awayfrom the property. He was struggling with what he wantedto do and how he could take a tragic situation and turn itinto something positive.“One day, a few years ago, he and Linnette went to see amovie starring Jeff Bridges. The film, Crazy Heart, was thestory of a former country music star that was battling hisaddiction to alcohol. The singer-songwriter eventuallyturns his life around after a successful stay in rehab.
